no wait, the tweet that compares it to "Tomorrow Never Knows" is the actual prank? it must be

I've just heard it and PaulTMA's description isn't actually that far off the mark.

People have made this comparison
the character on the right bears a resemblance to Ian Brown, but aside from that, I'm not seeing it. Presence of the words "all for one" is not sufficient.

Also, weirdly, it's probably the best Ian Brown's ever sounded. Shame the song sounds like mid-table mid-'90s Britpop.

Heard the 30s clip on Spotify. Oh dear. I'm saying that as someone who wanted it to be good.

Boy this is bad.
― BlackIronPrison, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:30 (seven years ago) link
I've seen a lot of people saying it sounds way more like the return of The Seahorses than The Stone Roses.
― Kitchen Person, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:33 (seven years ago) link
more like the current line-up of Hurricane #1 meets the cast of Jossie's Giants

It's fucking horrible. Like a really really really weak Shack. Uergh.

It sounds like a pub rock version of Donovan basically

It really does sound like The Bluetones, The Seahorses and Hurricane #1 though. It's not as if those bands all have really different styles. They mainly made music that sounded like a poor man's Stone Roses and that's exactly what All For One is.
― Kitchen Person, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:54 (seven years ago) link
KP where is that Shack album? postponed indefinitely it seems

The drums are just foul. Can't believe that's Reni.
― Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 12 May 2016 21:29 (seven years ago) link
It's an intro track, that's what it sounds like.
― Mark G, Thursday, 12 May 2016 21:36 (seven years ago) link
Hey, come to think of it, are there any Reni backing vocals?
― Poliopolice, Thursday, 12 May 2016 21:44 (seven years ago) link
yeah, the drums are fucking terrible, although when i listened to a few live youtubes earlier he sounded shitty there too :(
the lyrics belong in a donald trump ad tbh

has any guitarist descended more completely and disappointingly from relatively tasteful playing to tedious LEAD GUITAR bollocks as john squire?

Should have broken into a "Mexico will pay" refrain instead of that shitty guitar noodling.xp

Can someone please, Please, PLEASE round up all of these old '90s indie relics and put 'em in a fucking retirement home or something, where they can sit around and reminisce about how they once used to be "mad fer it" and talk about their shoes for the rest of their fucking lives!?
(Yes, I know The Stone Roses came out in '89, but still...)

Oh wait you meant the album
Yeah, I meant the album... their mid '80s work doesn't feel like the same band to me.

that's because it does pretty much the same thing all the way through. it really feels like half a song written as an unfinished demo. the drums are really really really bad.
