I wouldn't put it among their best songs, but it probably would have been in the top half of Second Coming.

Oh, it's on Spotify already.

rather displeased with the lyrics, honestly... in their prime, they were able to straddle this delicate line between earnest positivity and sublimated contempt... but lyrically, this seems a little on the cheesy side.

Poliopolice, Thursday, 12 May 2016 19:15 (seven years ago) link

I felt a mix of enjoyment and just plain relief it wasn't as terrible as it could have been. The lyrics are terrible, the riff's pretty good. I do have expectations for the album now.

cpl593H, Thursday, 12 May 2016 19:16 (seven years ago) link

Yeah, Ian totally dropped the ball here, not that anyone was expecting some Bob Dylan shit, but still...

cpl593H, Thursday, 12 May 2016 19:17 (seven years ago) link

New Radiohead, Stone Roses and Super Furry Animals within a week... sorely tempted to check my calendar to see what year this is.

But... could you imagine a formation in your lemonade? Ho! (Turrican), Thursday, 12 May 2016 19:18 (seven years ago) link

and Misfits reunion. LOL.

Poliopolice, Thursday, 12 May 2016 19:19 (seven years ago) link

i still love this band though, and regardless of how bad this song could have been, i'd still be excited for a new album

Poliopolice, Thursday, 12 May 2016 19:23 (seven years ago) link

Pretty decent single tho its not Love Spreads level good. Its at least not a retread of the 1st album which is what I was dreading.

Odysseus, Thursday, 12 May 2016 19:29 (seven years ago) link

Haslam's got cloth ears, it's 'I Want To Tell You' not 'Tomorrow Never Knows'

MaresNest, Thursday, 12 May 2016 19:32 (seven years ago) link

it's The Bluetones covering the theme from 'Going For Gold'

PaulTMA, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:06 (seven years ago) link

People have made this comparison https://youtu.be/P-xO72s5EBY

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:18 (seven years ago) link

it's The Bluetones covering the theme from 'Going For Gold'

^^ first thing I've read that actually makes me want to listen to this

soref, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:21 (seven years ago) link

xp ok, doubly so after Kitchen Person's link

soref, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:21 (seven years ago) link

this song is a prank, right

i like to trump and i am crazy (DJP), Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:22 (seven years ago) link

no wait, the tweet that compares it to "Tomorrow Never Knows" is the actual prank? it must be

i like to trump and i am crazy (DJP), Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:24 (seven years ago) link

I've just heard it and PaulTMA's description isn't actually that far off the mark.

But... could you imagine a formation in your lemonade? Ho! (Turrican), Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:26 (seven years ago) link

People have made this comparison

the character on the right bears a resemblance to Ian Brown, but aside from that, I'm not seeing it. Presence of the words "all for one" is not sufficient.

Poliopolice, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:27 (seven years ago) link

Also, weirdly, it's probably the best Ian Brown's ever sounded. Shame the song sounds like mid-table mid-'90s Britpop.

Heard the 30s clip on Spotify. Oh dear. I'm saying that as someone who wanted it to be good.

michaellambert, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:28 (seven years ago) link

Boy this is bad.

BlackIronPrison, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:30 (seven years ago) link

I've seen a lot of people saying it sounds way more like the return of The Seahorses than The Stone Roses.

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:33 (seven years ago) link

more like the current line-up of Hurricane #1 meets the cast of Jossie's Giants

PaulTMA, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:36 (seven years ago) link

though its not even fit to stand on their shoulder

PaulTMA, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:37 (seven years ago) link

its nothing like either

Odysseus, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:37 (seven years ago) link

It's fucking horrible. Like a really really really weak Shack. Uergh.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:38 (seven years ago) link

It sounds like a pub rock version of Donovan basically

real orgone kid (NickB), Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:39 (seven years ago) link

feel like you guys are just making up x ___version of y combos now

Οὖτις, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:42 (seven years ago) link

if Love Spreads was their Hash Pipe, then this must be Back To The Shack

PaulTMA, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:43 (seven years ago) link

I WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE TO HEAR THIS

Mr. Snrub, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:43 (seven years ago) link

Please don't. It's awful.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:45 (seven years ago) link

THIS SOUNDS LIKE ARGENT COVERING BELLE AND SEBASTIAN

Poliopolice, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:45 (seven years ago) link

NO WAIT, JEFF BUCKLEY DOING AN EDDIE AND THE HOT RODS B-SIDE

Poliopolice, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:46 (seven years ago) link

PaulTMA, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:48 (seven years ago) link

its like beyonce meets embrace

Odysseus, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:49 (seven years ago) link

tho the chorus is a bit front line assembly meets en vogue

Heavy Stereo covering Genesis 'Calling All Stations' prod. by Pete Stanley & Paul Wiggs

PaulTMA, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:51 (seven years ago) link

Neu! crossed with M People

Odysseus, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:53 (seven years ago) link

It really does sound like The Bluetones, The Seahorses and Hurricane #1 though. It's not as if those bands all have really different styles. They mainly made music that sounded like a poor man's Stone Roses and that's exactly what All For One is.

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:54 (seven years ago) link

KP where is that Shack album? postponed indefinitely it seems

Odysseus, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:57 (seven years ago) link

Didn't know there was anything being released?

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 12 May 2016 20:59 (seven years ago) link

This was even worse than you'd made it out to be.

Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 12 May 2016 21:12 (seven years ago) link

Oh wow, good spot!

real orgone kid (NickB), Thursday, 12 May 2016 21:29 (seven years ago) link

The drums are just foul. Can't believe that's Reni.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 12 May 2016 21:29 (seven years ago) link

It's an intro track, that's what it sounds like.

Mark G, Thursday, 12 May 2016 21:36 (seven years ago) link

Hey, come to think of it, are there any Reni backing vocals?
