By the way, I love the fact that this is apparently coming out tomorrow and nobody has any idea what the title is... or is it self-titled, or what?

But... could you imagine a formation in your lemonade? Ho! (Turrican), Saturday, 7 May 2016 22:28 (seven years ago) link

the rumor is it's called dawn chorus but that's just the name of the company they registered last year

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Saturday, 7 May 2016 22:32 (seven years ago) link

I really hope it isn't, if only so I won't have to endure a million hacks calling it their "pastoral" album

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Saturday, 7 May 2016 22:34 (seven years ago) link

it may well have been, but i get the impression that this record has a much stronger weight of expectation for some reason. the 5/6-piece gamely exploring the confines of a rock band must surely be a dry well to them as well as us now. they have never ever been a band for any shred of self-confident braggadocio, but the faint strains of it in their maneuvers now i reckon bode well. dare i say, even exciting?

and of course they arent going to name it until the whole package is ready. even back when they released the title "amnesiac", the press wrung their hands over how it would never escape the shadow of the similarly titled Green Day album. imagine the outpourings that would happen today. bet you $10 that dawn chorus is just cheeky misdirection. theyre not that careless.

matt h, Saturday, 7 May 2016 22:34 (seven years ago) link

I'd say this release has a weight of expectation about it because The King of Limbs got a mixed reception and people are seeing if they can still pull a release out of the bag that stands equal with the better albums in their discography, or whether they're on some irreversible downhill slide.

I'm sure 'The Dawn Chorus' is one of the names of the new tracks, or so I remember reading?

But... could you imagine a formation in your lemonade? Ho! (Turrican), Saturday, 7 May 2016 22:59 (seven years ago) link

Daydreaming itself sounds like it's channelling that whole late 80s ambient post-prog thing - somewhere between the middle section of Hounds of Love and Spirit of Eden and maybe some Peter Gabriel that I've never heard. I'd be surprised if the whole album was like that.

Matt DC, Sunday, 8 May 2016 11:11 (seven years ago) link

the middle section of Hounds of Love and Spirit of Eden and maybe some Peter Gabriel

If you are secretly street teaming for the new Radiohead, sir, you just got me to buy the deluxe edition

Wimmels, Sunday, 8 May 2016 13:49 (seven years ago) link

The more I listen to "Burn The Witch," however, the more I think I dislike it. I also dislike the lyrics: we're still making floating / burning witch metaphors, really?

But I am really loving "Daydreaming" and sorta want to go to a movie theater just to maybe catch the video on the big screen

Wimmels, Sunday, 8 May 2016 13:58 (seven years ago) link

lol @ radiohead releasing an album of presumably intense and introspective art-rock while literally everyone in the uk is having a picnic

Two more hours. Get hyped! Don't know if this is fake but apparently if you own an Amazon echo the title, tracklist and 15 sec samples are available right now. 'A MOON SHAPED POOL' is supposed to be the title... don't love the name but hey True Love Waits!

I'm not the world's biggest Radiohead fan but I love that we can still all get excited about the same thing happening at the same time every once in a while

(Beyonce doesn't count)

Wimmels, Sunday, 8 May 2016 16:29 (seven years ago) link

why not

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Sunday, 8 May 2016 16:30 (seven years ago) link

Seems it's official, still think the track order will change since it's arranged alphabetically. So, mods should probably rename this thread?

✖✖✖ (Moka), Sunday, 8 May 2016 16:54 (seven years ago) link

it's kinda surprising something would slip up like this.

also surprising that Burn the Witch is the opener (and weird that it's alphabetical like that), and wow, True Love Waits. apparently The Numbers is Silent Spring?

ufo, Sunday, 8 May 2016 16:56 (seven years ago) link

I highly doubt that's the actual order

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Sunday, 8 May 2016 16:58 (seven years ago) link

Yeah The Numbers is Silent Spring. Dissapointed Skirting on the Surface got left out it was one of my favorites of the new ones. Still not sold on Identikit the chorus 'broken hearts make it rain' from live versions was very awkward imho. The rest of the song has some interesting moments but that chorus Idk... Starts and ends very abruptly let's see what they did with it in the studio.

I find their refusal to let old songs die endearing

lol Google Play took it down

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Sunday, 8 May 2016 17:05 (seven years ago) link

Oh it's off Google Play now... You could even buy it and download a sec ago.

Lift was actually part of the sessions, I thought it would definitely make it this time around. Maybe a b-side?

✖✖✖ (Moka), Sunday, 8 May 2016 17:06 (seven years ago) link

It would fit with the orchestration-heavy theme, I would think.

at the risk of what certainly has the potential to be a very unfortunate derail, because not everyone is a poptimist consumed with celebrity culture and vacuous pop music?

Anyway, new album discussion!

Did anyone manage to download it before it disappeared?

Wimmels, Sunday, 8 May 2016 17:09 (seven years ago) link

vacuous pop music

Ding! I knew this would be the answer, but I just wanted you to type it for the record.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 8 May 2016 17:12 (seven years ago) link

Right, I'm a cliche. Look at me in my Foo Fighters t-shirt hating Taylor Swift and wishing people still wrote "real songs, maaan." You got me

Wimmels, Sunday, 8 May 2016 17:14 (seven years ago) link

I'm listening to it now, the tracklist seems to be the correct order - Decks Dark segues into Desert Island Disk

ufo, Sunday, 8 May 2016 17:15 (seven years ago) link

Hahahaha

✖✖✖ (Moka), Sunday, 8 May 2016 17:15 (seven years ago) link

Tracklist I saw was alphabetical. Surely that can't be right

Wimmels, Sunday, 8 May 2016 17:15 (seven years ago) link

I thought this title would make good anagrams but the best I can come up with is Shampoo'n a Poodle

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Sunday, 8 May 2016 17:16 (seven years ago) link

this album has a weirdly laid back sensibility for them so far

ufo, Sunday, 8 May 2016 17:31 (seven years ago) link

apparently the alphabetical tracklist is correct lol

19 more minutes till the official release.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Sunday, 8 May 2016 17:38 (seven years ago) link

xp Google Play accidentally launched it early, then took it back down.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 8 May 2016 17:39 (seven years ago) link

I need to make my peace with the fact that I just wish every Radiohead song sounded like Autechre's "Second Scepe" + Greenwood guitars

Wimmels, Sunday, 8 May 2016 17:40 (seven years ago) link

Which radiohead song comes closest to that ideal?

I've had Eno, ugh (ledge), Sunday, 8 May 2016 17:48 (seven years ago) link

re: alphabetization of tracklist

sounds like the result of a really frustrating process to determine the running order

or a Pet Shop Boys influence.

But... could you imagine a formation in your lemonade? Ho! (Turrican), Sunday, 8 May 2016 18:02 (seven years ago) link

studio version of True Love Waits is disappointing, it's very minimal but not really in an interesting way like what they did with Videotape
