i feel like they only exist in upper-middle class neighborhoods as a quaint attempt to teach kids about the value of hard work that they will not have to do irl.

We are pretty much lower-to-middle middle class.

i love how the temptation to listen to that Beyonce/Jack White song is remedied by the title: DON'T HURT YOURSELF.

STILL TEMPTED THOUGH. in a masochistic way....
just do it, scott. it's pretty good!
(totally over-generalized and projected my own class anxieties onto the lemonade stand thing; been doing that SO MUCH lately.)

culture shock upon moving to canada from Scotland: lemonade here is not carbonated

I had no idea a half lemonade/half iced tea was called an Arnold Palmer until this year. Honest Tea makes that and it's really, really good
Just picked some up to have with lunch, inspired by this thread.

Lemonade is carbonated in the UK? So every lemonade is basically lemony Sprite?
scott, the Janet album is excellent.

i wanna hear it. i love janet.
is everyone's favorite "rock" song by a huge non-rock pop star "black cat"?
i'd like a show of hands.

― Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Tuesday, 26 April 2016 18:18 (seven years ago) link
I mean, I consider him rock but people seemed to think I was crazy when I argued that before.
Is this shandy thing any good? What beer would you use for that? A citrus-y wheat beer? A mild lager?
― Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Tuesday, 26 April 2016 18:21 (seven years ago) link
"Black Cat" is up there, but mine is probably something by Pink. Her third album was mostly co-written by the main dude from Rancid.

Oh man, Pink's rock stuff really rubs me the wrong way.

prince made way too much rock to be called a non-rocker. he was definitely a rock star. and a pop star. and the king of r&b.
i always had a soft spot for the rocking tracks on pop records. the more Slash-like guitar solos the better. cuz i'm a rock fan....
what's the most rock madonna song?
i might like "free your mind" as much as "black cat".

yes.
shandy is good, refreshing, use as cheap a lager as you like, cheaper the better really. also nice is a lager tops, essentially a shandy but with only a small amount of lemonade on the top, very high beer to lemonade ratio.
― -_- (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 26 April 2016 18:37 (seven years ago) link
Is a radler different from a shandy or is it just rebranding?
― On a Raqqa tip (ShariVari), Tuesday, 26 April 2016 18:40 (seven years ago) link
as far as tart and beer goes i mostly get that from the excellent sour red belgians on the market. god i love that stuff. americans can have ALL the headbusting IPAs they want. just lemme have my belgians and germans. a lemon wedge in a nice german wheat beer is a fine way to say hello to summer. (you can quote me on that)
― scott seward, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 18:45 (seven years ago) link
xp. radler is like a half and half sparkling lemonade and lager iirc. whereas shandy, if you order it in a british pub, would probably have more beer than lemonade - though i don't think there is an established ratio.
― -_- (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 26 April 2016 18:52 (seven years ago) link
wow, that "gon' b alright" song from janet's 2015 album is some serious late 80's/early 90's retrodelica. like instead of jack white she got the soup dragons or primal scream to write a song with her.

I thought a radler was brewed with lemon, whereas a shandy was lager mixed with lemonade? But it's hard to tell now, since you can buy thirty different readymade shandies/radlers in stores once the summer seasonals start coming out.
― Tom Violence, Tuesday, 26 April 2016 20:14 (seven years ago) link
radlers should be really gross but i gotta say i kinda like them, anytime i've been in berlin and it's roasting, a 50 cent radler hits the spot. i also like the word "radler".
i think radler is lemonade but i dunno. there are more craft type radlers around now i guess but i just had like commercial german lager versions.

On 26 April 1997, American television network ABC aired a one-hour prime time special about Pop and the PopMart Tour, titled U2: A Year in Pop. Narrated by actor Dennis Hopper, the documentary featured footage from the Pop recording sessions, as well as live footage from the opening PopMart show in Whitney, which took place the night before. The program received poor reception, ranking at 101 out of 107 programs aired that week, according to Nielsen ratings, and became the lowest rated non-political documentary in the history of the ABC network.
