i love this album now, not just an out and out piano virtuoso genius but also one of the best drummers in the world right now and neither of them afraid to show it.

I meant to say her band also features a very talented drummer, that makes it sound like she is some kind of virtuoso octopus.

yeah I've never heard another jazz player flaunt their talent like that. there's a lot of Keith Emerson in her. I mean that in a good sense, by the way

listening to Spiral right now and it's hitting all the right spots. all that "Music For Three-Piece Orchestra" stuff is so good

three years pass...

like her new solo joint of cover versions, Spectrum. it's a mix of the usual head spinning speed riffing with a bit of down-home boogie and some more gentle stuff.

Ooh, I gotta check that one out, I loved the covers/standards album she did with Sonicbloom. Last year's Spark was pretty good too.

Hmm, I guess Spark came out in 2016, dunno why I thought it was last year...

two weeks pass...

it's not all cover versions as i posted above. Fucking love this album - she's a freaking brilliant pianist.

Saw her playing in a duo with Stanley Clarke a couple of years ago (at the London Palladium!), she was utterly fantastic.

The videos on YouTube of her with Akiko Yano are amazing

Yeah, this is a dope album, and it feels like doing the whole album solo has made her reign in some of the cornier fusion excesses of the previous trio/quartet recordings.

Saw her playing in a duo with Stanley Clarke a couple of years ago (at the London Palladium!), she was utterly fantastic.

The Stanley Clarke Trio album with her and Lenny White from 2009 is cool, I wish that combo would do more records.
