I didn't listen to Fuck Buttons for a long time because their name sounded like some stupid Vice Magazine bullshit. but I'm glad I got over it because I actually really like 'em.

also I think I would've liked Wooden Shjips about 80% more if their name wasn't spelled like that.

(interestingly, this did not keep me from diggin' Wzt Hearts)

I too hated the Pooh Sticks for their name. Then I heard their music, and I hated them even more.

I too am on the no-more-animals/black/crystal names anti-bandwagon. Obviously I've made exceptions, but yeah.

Disco Inferno sure have a misleading band name. Wish I'd looked into them a lot sooner.

I always assumed the Deftones were some kind of ska punk band. Was suprised by their actual output.

Was completely put off by the Presets assuming they were hipster shit. Well, they're not far removed from that but they're actually also pretty good.

I avoided Neutral Milk Hotel for years, and still feel embarrassed trying to convince people they should give them a listen.

Never gave Super Furry Animals a thought because of their name. Now kicking self.

A lot of the groups already mentioned are in this thread.

Add: Raccoo-oo-oon, Wildildlife, roughly 99% of all post rock groups with a name containing more than three words, metal groups that sounded like an angry 13 year-old named them (christfucker666 or whatever)... I could go on and on, really.

i was camping w/some pals and someone started playing songs from Aeroplane (<--- I understand that this is embarrassing on its own) and this dude was like 'hey who is that i'd like to check them out' and i was genuinely embarrassed to give him the name :-/

Has no one said TV On The Radio yet? I've actively sought out albums, put them on, pondered them for 1minute 30 seconds then thought "But they're called 'TV on the' fucking 'Radio'" and switch them off in disgust.

In reality, the band is called Margot after Gwyneth Paltrow's character in the Wes Anderson film The Royal Tenenbaums.

ANY band named after a Smiths song (I mean come on..). I generally have a hard time with bands named after other bands' songs or albums. It just seems half-assed. It took me a long time to accept Eric's Trip b/c of this. I probably would have had a problem with Radiohead too, except for that I was unaware of the TH song until well after I was already a RH stan.

Bands You could never allow yourself to like, given their (to your ears) indefensibly stupid name.
