I'm positive that's at least her second most defining feature on first glance? First being her lovely smile.

Eager to hear the non-fat-based claims.

First of all like 90% sure that's shopped

human life won't become a cat (man alive), Friday, 8 April 2016 18:57 (eight years ago) link

The joke isn't 'she's fat lol'. In context, the initial comment was about 'tasteful' nudes on the sleeves of classical LPs. Any gaudy & naughty image from a greeting card purchased at Spencer's Gifts (e.g. a hunk holding a daschshund in front of his genitals or a wrinkled old man in a randy pose) would've served the juxtaposition equally well.

^ srsly can't believe this has to be explained

Plus the post in question is six years old so let's cut the Mailman some slack here.

My Whole Existence Is Flan (Old Lunch), Friday, 8 April 2016 19:05 (eight years ago) link

Does some part of the humor derive from her "body," (which, again, p sure is not real) yeah, obviously, although not just "she is fat." Anyway, if people really find this body-shaming and are not just being right on the internet, I stand down. Go ahead and flag post, lock thread, or whatever.

human life won't become a cat (man alive), Friday, 8 April 2016 19:08 (eight years ago) link

fat didn't even play into it at all for me - was just the idea of classical cds repackaged as like a fuckin' 2 Live Crew album cover

i don't really care about this particular old post so i guess u can say i'm ""concern trolling"" but i do find it kind of bizarre how many ppl who probably consider themselves generally well-meaning see no problem at all with perpetual body shaming. it's caused real issues in my friendships, and tbh it's kind of caused me to keep an eye out for disingenuousness among ppl who seem to try to otherwise come across as tolerant of everything. just saying.

and yes, i'm a judgmental piece of shit too, so i don't really expect anyone to care or take this seriously because i know i myself wouldn't if such a post were directed at me. state of the world.

I really don't find body shaming at all funny, fwiw. I know and care about too many people with real issues and sensitivies in that arena to take it lightly. I do, however, find absurd jugsjuxtapositions hilarious.

My Whole Existence Is Flan (Old Lunch), Friday, 8 April 2016 19:58 (eight years ago) link

i do think it's kinda lame to presume why people thought something was funny, see them explain why they *really* thought it was funny, and insinuate "naw guys, admit it, the horrible reason I gave is really the reason you thought it was hilarious"

Neanderthal, Friday, 8 April 2016 20:01 (eight years ago) link

In conclusion, nothing is funny, ever.

xposts adolescent boy humor like that isn't totally innocent, it has its exploitative side, there's an underlying current of fear of bodies and sexuality that it's trying to discharge, the downside is it tends to objectify and otherize, and it's not funny when you think about the category of person who bears the brunt of that, so i think your concerns are valid but also think the joke speaks for itself as a quaint relic of like a myopic junior high world of boys and would back away from anyone like really repping for it as some kind of paragon of humor.

xpost like your insistence on projecting what the humor is and what the intent is all whilst ignoring the very valid explanations from multiple people itt is adorable and all. it's fair to talk about unintended consequences but not when it comes couched in the motherfucking smug accusatory tone that some of y'all are employing itt

how incredibly defensive!

Neanderthal, Friday, 8 April 2016 20:30 (eight years ago) link

if people genuinely believe that it doesn't count as "body shaming" if an image is photoshopped/looks fake, then that's a semiotic argument that is interesting to me on an intellectual/academic level, though the, er, parts, still refer to a human body of the type that is frequently shamed. I don't really want to bring up the bottle opener thread in this context, but there are similarities in terms of the defensiveness and cluelessness of the posts defending this as "just a bit of fun, let's be cool"
