Excited for the results!
Thought this would be higher. It's my favorite L&R album.

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 30 March 2016 01:50 (eight years ago) link

this album was so much fun to listen to again.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 30 March 2016 02:19 (eight years ago) link

Like I said in the voting thread, at the time this was too folky for my taste but I really liked it when I listened to it again for the poll.

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 30 March 2016 03:47 (eight years ago) link

Love both of these albums more than most Bauhaus LPs...

lingereffect (Kent Burt), Wednesday, 30 March 2016 03:57 (eight years ago) link

Good work Bee OK! Looking forward to the run down.

I think I misread the album bit, otherwise some of the L&R albums would have had more marks.

too low!

Bee OK, Wednesday, 30 March 2016 20:53 (eight years ago) link

i was the one vote for Night Music because i have that one on CD.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 30 March 2016 21:26 (eight years ago) link

In 2015, David J announced in a solo performance that the album's title came from an incident in which he and Ash were smoking hash in a car and the car caught fire, burning from the inside.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 30 March 2016 21:32 (eight years ago) link

i found that funny.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 30 March 2016 21:33 (eight years ago) link

I didn't submit an albums ballot, but if I had, Burning From the Inside would most likely have been my #1.

That's a pretty strange way for the title to have come about.

Austin, Wednesday, 30 March 2016 21:35 (eight years ago) link

Never really understood why that one is usually the least favorite Bauhaus album among fans. Too varied?

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 30 March 2016 21:42 (eight years ago) link

not enough Murphy probably.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 30 March 2016 21:45 (eight years ago) link

oh dammit I meant to vote in this

i like to trump and i am crazy (DJP), Wednesday, 30 March 2016 21:53 (eight years ago) link

Pop was my #2 LP - chose it over Everything! because it's such a consistent little record... Everything! has a lot of meandering and fucking around that I tend to skip.

I like Burning From The Inside, but (other than "She's In Parties") the Peter Murphy sung tracks aren't their best. The closer it veers to Love & Rockets, the more appealing it is.

Speaking of which, Seventh Dream is sooooo awesome.

lingereffect (Kent Burt), Wednesday, 30 March 2016 21:58 (eight years ago) link

we could have used the extra vote. hope you enjoy this roll-out and you can comment anyways.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 30 March 2016 22:03 (eight years ago) link

one great thing about doing this poll was re-listening to this album. it has held up extremely well.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 30 March 2016 22:04 (eight years ago) link

Bauhaus were before my time, so the way i got into them was via 1979 - 1983 comp. i never did buy this album, so this poll was really the first time hearing this album. i did buy other Bauhaus records over time, just not this one.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 30 March 2016 22:26 (eight years ago) link

as planned.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 30 March 2016 22:50 (eight years ago) link

The Sky's Gone Out was my number one vote.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 30 March 2016 22:53 (eight years ago) link

Kinda surprised that Sky polled ahead of Mask - have never been able to get into it as much as the other Bauhaus LPs.

#1 was my #1 - solid album.

Love Hysteria beating Deep is surprising.

ejemplo (crüt), Wednesday, 30 March 2016 23:16 (eight years ago) link

i wanted to use the original artwork for this poll, plus i didn’t have time to do 70 images. Only problem there is i started to run out of things for Love and Rockets. Bauhaus stuff is really tough to find on-line, they don’t even have their own website.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 30 March 2016 23:42 (eight years ago) link

at long last, results for the songs.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 30 March 2016 23:49 (eight years ago) link

Also surprised at Sky beating Mask. But when I look at the track listing it probably has more songs on it that I love.
In the Flat Field was my number one. (x-post)

Great song! A great opener for Express and for this poll. Love all the distortion in the second part.

Love Hysteria beating Deep is surprising.

― ejemplo (crüt), Wednesday, March 30, 2016 11:16 PM (37 minutes ago)

I adore Love Hysteria! For me, it's by far his most memorable solo collection of songs. The lyrics are often a perfect combination of ridiculous and moving - which I love so much in Peter Murphy's best songs - as exemplified by Socrates the Python. Time Has Got Nothing To Do With It is fantastic. In contrast, I find Deep to be utterly unmemorable. Cuts You Up was a pretty big hit, and I cannot remember how it goes. I will listen to Deep again though, as I haven't heard it in at least 20 years.

pop and seventh dream two of my favorite albums ever and i'm really glad that i bought the u.k. albums when they came out because they totally fucked with them for the u.s. pressings. ruined two perfect albums.

scott seward, Thursday, 31 March 2016 00:33 (eight years ago) link

one of the best album openers ever. the feel of both albums completely different. and pop with go and twist on it is just not pop! a lysergic masterpiece for pete's sake.

my kinda poll though. three of my favorite bands. and also there is peter murphy. for his fans.

scott seward, Thursday, 31 March 2016 00:41 (eight years ago) link

I messed up the artwork, that has nothing to do with Lazy. It is pretty cool however.

Didn't vote but those are good results! Thought the Third Uncle uncle was more loved. If I had voted it would've been my number 2 or 3.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Sunday, 3 April 2016 21:46 (eight years ago) link

I'm sad I missed the best part of the poll as it was happening, but I enjoyed catching up with the results just now.

Great Top 5 and I'm happy "Bela" wasn't #1. I love it but I find Bauhaus have done so much more than that first single, which is what they're always know for.

Surprised "Double Dare" wasn't Top 10. To me it represents the core of what Bauhaus was about, musically and lyrically. Amazing opener for a first album and it's also one of the heaviest songs I've ever heard.

I love all the songs in the top 20 except "Rosegarden Funeral" which is ok, but was never a stand out for me.

Shout out to the other person who voted for "The Man With the X-Ray Eyes"!

And thanks again Bee Ok for doing this, I had so much fun relistening to all those fantastic songs and albums. Reminded me how truly amazing and original this band was.

looking at set lists from recent shows, they are only playing Bauhaus songs with no Peter Murphy solo tracks.

you have no idea how much i'm looking forward to today's show. i have never seen Bauhaus since they broke up before i was into music but they became such an important band in my youth. even if that has more to do with Love and Rockets.

So how was it?

Ned Raggett, Monday, 4 November 2019 13:56 (four years ago) link

Interesting setlist. Per reports, three of these songs they hadn’t done since the original run (“Spy in the Cab,” “The Man Wirh X-Ray Eyes” and “The Three Shadows Pt 2”) and this is the first time they’ve covered “Sister Midnight,” a very appropriate choice:

“Bauhaus, Hollywood Palladium, Los Angeles, CA, 11/3/19

1. “Rosegarden Funeral of Sores” (John Cale cover)
2. “Double Dare”
3. “In The Flat Field”
4. “A God in an Alcove”
5. “In Fear of Fear”
6. “Spy in the Cab”
7. “Terror Couple Kill Colonel”
8. “Swing the Heartache”
9. “She’s In Parties”
10. “Bela Lugosi’s Dead”
11. “Kick In The Eye”
12. “The Man With the X-Ray Eyes”
13. “Stigmata Martyr”
14. “Silent Hedges”
15. “Dark Entries”

Encore:
16. “The Three Shadows, Part II”
17. “Sister Midnight” (Iggy Pop cover)
18. “Telegram Sam” (Marc Bolan cover)
19. “Ziggy Stardust” (David Bowie cover)”

i haven't gone yet, leaving right now however. will post a review tomorrow night.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 5 November 2019 02:01 (four years ago) link

my setlist was the same as what Ned posted from the night before but they also included "The Passion of Lovers" at last nights show. Automatic was the opening band and they are three women that are trying their best to be Stereolab but they were cool. the audience in Hollywood last night was older, they really didn't bring out the kids to the show, felt like i was seeing Neil Young or something. the band was very tight and felt like they have been playing on the road for months, hard to believe that this was only the second show. Peter Murphy didn't have any ill effects from his recent heart attack and sounded really, really good. they never said a word all night they just played their songs. first and probably last time i will see Bauhaus and it was a fun night. i was more of a Love and Rockets person, though over time i realize that Bauhaus was more of a statement band. i just identify with Love and Rockets more.
