odysseus (imago), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 14:54 (eight years ago) link

I dunno what those guys would have been listening to then but I imagine they would have liked the heavy end of prog as well as the metal of its time

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 15:01 (eight years ago) link

This whole rollout has been wonderful. What can I listen to this afternoon that will wake me up more than all the other albums (possibly combined)?

tangenttangent, Tuesday, 23 February 2016 15:55 (eight years ago) link

Cleric :P

odysseus (imago), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 16:01 (eight years ago) link

Hahaha omg

How have I not watched this yet? Every time I hear about it, it is immediately repressed. I am too sober to watch this right now. 0_o

tangenttangent, Tuesday, 23 February 2016 16:22 (eight years ago) link

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 16:30 (eight years ago) link

lol at all of this

odysseus (imago), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 16:30 (eight years ago) link

This has been fantastic. I don't honestly listen to as much metal as I should these days (I find listening to black metal physically painful: Ash Borer finally did for my ears), but I've been revisiting loads of great sounds, and loads of great memories. And I've had my nine year old screaming 'I hope you make sure we're properly dead before you start!' before breakfast so it's all good.

Poacher (Chinaski), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 16:31 (eight years ago) link

xp

Will listen to this next. I've heard it before but not since my ears became more robust to metal.

tangenttangent, Tuesday, 23 February 2016 16:31 (eight years ago) link

Ash Borer are great.

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 17:03 (eight years ago) link

I think i forgot to nominate Bone Awl

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 17:03 (eight years ago) link

candlemass/saint vitus type doom got vetoed right?

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 17:42 (eight years ago) link

I've loved the sheer variety in the countdown, there's a lot of stuff I don't care for but it's cool seeing how it all has its place. I've made it my goal to listen to everything I haven't already heard - favourite discoveries so far: Virus and Sacramentum.

Virus mention made me pull out this album today, and reminds what a crime against nature and man that Carl-Michael Eide can't drum anymore.

Dominique, Tuesday, 23 February 2016 18:43 (eight years ago) link

I really need to listen to Virus...

odysseus (imago), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 18:46 (eight years ago) link

Oh my god.

odysseus (imago), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 18:54 (eight years ago) link

xxp According to a recent promo shot for the next Virus album (out in June!) I think C-M Eide can stand now at least which is great

space prophet wogan (ultros ultros-ghali), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 19:22 (eight years ago) link

Anyway I'm really behind so I'm going to actually listen to Bathory now

space prophet wogan (ultros ultros-ghali), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 19:24 (eight years ago) link

The Black Flux is awwwwesome, maybe not the best thing here - it's a little restrained, if anything - but so cool and so nicely-judged. I love it

odysseus (imago), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 19:26 (eight years ago) link

I like how varied this poll has been, as it should, and if nothing else it's given me an excuse to listen to some things that I've avoided for years because I thought I was too clever for them. Most of them have turned out to be pretty good.

space prophet wogan (ultros ultros-ghali), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 20:01 (eight years ago) link

I just remembered that the reason I omitted not just SYL but everything Devin-related was the whole "what is extreme?" question that likewise axed most (traditional) doom.

Devilock, Tuesday, 23 February 2016 20:25 (eight years ago) link

So pretend I voted for City, Ocean Machine, Terria, and probably Accelerated Evolution, scattered thoughtfully throughout my 100.

Devilock, Tuesday, 23 February 2016 20:27 (eight years ago) link

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Wednesday, 24 February 2016 17:39 (eight years ago) link

my #15, just perfect songwriting. 'well why does it belong on an extreme metal poll then?' you ask. because this is perfect extreme songwriting duh ;)

odysseus (imago), Wednesday, 24 February 2016 17:39 (eight years ago) link

Welcome back! Very excited about continuing poll.

(Very brief because at work) discovery highlights from today:

Negura Bunket - Unexpectedly cute!
Drudkh - Nothing this entrenched in pagan tree-worship can be bad.
Harvey Milk - What is this Harvey Milk dream sludge? The fourth track killed me.

tangenttangent, Wednesday, 24 February 2016 17:42 (eight years ago) link

Going to be fun seeing everyones ballots
Bergtatt was my #33
Nattens Madrigal was my #5

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Wednesday, 24 February 2016 17:47 (eight years ago) link

odysseus (imago), Wednesday, 24 February 2016 17:49 (eight years ago) link

what Metallica album do you all think will place the highest, and at what number?

Frobisher, Wednesday, 24 February 2016 17:51 (eight years ago) link

south of heaven kinda my platonic satanic ideal. probably the metal album i've played the most since it came out? has to be.
