my new comfort look is mid thigh tunics, preferably loose and flowy, underneath a knee length cardigan, with bare legs or tights and badass boots.

I tried various iterations (several NOT CHEAP) of not-comfortable-looking-but-comfortable women's shoes and have fucking given up.

I bought (NOT CHEAP but yet CHEAP) two pairs of men's wingtips--the high-end kind--and am not looking back.

I get tons of compliments, my feet are happy, and these shoes are gonna last 10x longer then these crappy velcro shit stuff I wasted time on.

justine i like the "dressy" boots - a tiny bit steampunk but in a good way?? - and the last ones, which are pretty unfuckable with

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 20 February 2016 19:06 (eight years ago) link

yeah i really like them too, but i already have two pairs of really cool witchy/steampunk (also in good way) boots. i also have a pair of very simply black mid calf boots, but the have a very thin sole, so i feel like what's missing is pair of slightly chunky, more badass boots??

just1n3, Sunday, 21 February 2016 05:01 (eight years ago) link

resole with maximum chunk!

Loooove those Abba shoes.

Was "flatform" a typo or is that a thing?

Trickers, Alden, something like that? Chunky brogues seem like a close cousin to docs.

vcrash, Thursday, 10 August 2017 03:24 (six years ago) link

I meant the red wing heritage line, not the main line

the late great, Thursday, 10 August 2017 04:19 (six years ago) link

i have two pairs of alden bluchers and they're great but i'm kind of afraid to wear them out

the late great, Thursday, 10 August 2017 04:29 (six years ago) link

if I was into shoes that weren't Converse I'd go Adidas

Trying to find the right kind of nice leather shoes is a fool's errand, if you like Docs, stick to the plan, just get some different looking Docs

El Tomboto, Thursday, 10 August 2017 04:37 (six years ago) link

Does ilx like nike huraches?

For a long time my signature shoes were clarks desert boots, then two different kinds of red wings, but now I'm wearing these. Part of me thinks they're incongruous with the rest of my look but idk. I'm in love with them.

Treeship, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 21:54 (six years ago) link

im p sure we have some huarache wearers on here.

i hadn't worn a big brand pair of sneakers in absolutely years but i got a pair of adidas nmd r2s and i feel like I'm walking on damn air

-_- (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 15 August 2017 22:00 (six years ago) link

Yeah similar experience with the huraches. They are so comfortable. Idk why i spend all fall and winter in heavy red wing boots. I don't think I pull off ruggedness anyway.

Treeship, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 22:02 (six years ago) link

<3 huaraches never owned any tho

confession: i have a big callous on the bottom of both of my feet, right on the ball of my feet. i can hold a flame to it for 5 seconds and i can't feel a fucking thing. haven't tried that yet but i believe it to be true. recently, i realized i have the callouses because i have holes in both soles of my pair of IRL shoes. i tend to use things until they break, and this really got reinforced during coronavirus.

i'm a fuckin mess

here's my question: does anyone have any recommendations for walking around shoes that don't feature large advertisements for the shoe company on them? for example, imagine the perfect shoe, whatever that means, but "SHOE CO." is printed on the back. disqualified. also disqualified: anything that looks like a modern athletic shoe. no. nothing like that. i just want a comfortable shoe that isn't an advertisement and doesn't look like an 8-year-old inherited the design division of a shoe company.

dude get into the deeply nerdy comfort/orthpedic shoe game. no logos, no brands, just sturdy footwear
