That stormy pic of the bronco makes it look like it's situated on a council estate playing field in Doncaster.

Not terrifying, not gigantic, but I thought it strange (and fascinating, and about time) that a statue of Eric Dolphy adorns the campus of Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY:

still the most terrifying

http://artinrussia.org/wp-content/uploads/original19039207.jpg

i think there's something so fundamentally insane about the eastern front in particular Stalingrad, this army driven east beyond their limits by a tyrant and a large collection of psychopaths, coming up against a deadly winter and an army finally ready and able to destroy them, driven by another tyrant, and by circumstance the battle takes place in a city named after him. this statue comes as close as possible to capturing that insanity, i mean might as well have had a 300 ft tall banshee with a sword leading the charge against the Nazis, it would be only a bit more mad than the reality.

that statue is awesome

Did not realize that the second-largest statue in the United States - behind only Lady Liberty - is going to be this:

also statue related recurring nightmares.

No sure that's a statue, if we're talking Australia here.

I don't think my city will ever have a cool giant terrifying statue. That's sad.

We have one of those in Rahm Emanuel, he just doesn't seem to be that big into statues.

Don't you have the giant dog that wears the McMahon headbands or whatever?

Pasadena has a couple of large heads, but they're not frightening (Jackie and Mack Robinson).

Also a giant fork.

Installed as a prank, but the people liked it enough that the the city re-mounted it and made it official.

nickn, Monday, 22 February 2016 18:52 (eight years ago) link

I'm not sure Melbourne has any giant statues I can think of. Hm apart from this one I guess:

http://dyob.com.au/sites/default/files/experiences/Heavenly-Queen-Temple.jpg

And I'd hardly call that terrifying.

Not especially huge but it was odd going past Dashi Namdakov's feline statue at Marble Arch last year because it kinda looked like the statue of the demon Pazuzu from the Exorcist.
