and

although I think mine are a little darker than these, so comfy though - like slippers!

Porkpie (porkpie), Monday, 20 March 2006 19:57 (eighteen years ago) link

mmm, new shoes.

ohmyGOD I want to go shoe shopping so badly. I've never owned wedges (!) but find myself loving Marianna's and Tehresa's upthread. The right wedges are remarkably solid and practical! I want something like this for summer:
http://www.zappos.com/images/724/7243337/985-264274-d.jpg
Though I also kind of want something like this:
http://www.zappos.com/images/720/7201756/1733-240908-d.jpg
because I am clearly mental and Mtl fashion has gotten into my brain but not erroded twee-part + I would be 6 feet tall.

Any alternatives to chucks? My umpteenth pair are on the verge of collapsing and I fancy a change. I'm looking for something that'll work with skinny Levi's, preferably with a hi/mid top. Any ideas?

Ben Dot (1977), Thursday, 30 March 2006 11:52 (eighteen years ago) link

I suggest adidas superstars, aka shell-toes. Still rocking the old school hoops flavor, but with some Run DMC cred thrown in.

shelltoes with skinny jeans... dear god.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 30 March 2006 15:15 (eighteen years ago) link

classic vans high top, maybe.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 30 March 2006 15:17 (eighteen years ago) link

Man, I shouldn't read this thread. As soon as I get a new job I'm going to go out and buy three pairs of shoes to celebrate. These are the hungry years...

i got these the other day

not as exciting as they are practical, but still pretty i think.

tehresa (tehresa), Thursday, 30 March 2006 16:18 (eighteen years ago) link

one month passes...
I bought these yesterday. They have a hint of the roman, without looking stupid and they're comfy for walking to work, which is what I really care about now I'm over 30 /irony

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 15:21 (seventeen years ago) link

the box that had my hot pink & checkerboard stripe vans in it came yesterday! almost like getting new shoes (and cheaper).

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 15:23 (seventeen years ago) link

and then there is the joy of hypothetical vans

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 15:25 (seventeen years ago) link

I bought two pairs of shoes. One is lacey with some plastic flowers on'em and they are PERFUMED!

sadly the palm tree print has been discontinued.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 15:34 (seventeen years ago) link

These have made me happy for several weeks now.

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 15:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh Robyn, those red wedges you posted above? I have that shoe but with the skinny heel and they are SUPER COMFY. Nice big toebox cos they're so rounded and the ankle strap means no strain to keep them on yr feet. GO FOR IT.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 15:40 (seventeen years ago) link

andrew m's shoes look very andrew m. which is a good thing.

ive been searching for the perfect pair of red maryjanes for years now and I finally found them on ebay. italian leather, tie up strap. very 70s.

here's the catch - since that 70s show is done, fox has been selling off the shows wardrobe and props. these shoes i bought were worn by 'donna' in the school prom/tornado episode where donna and eric hang out with aerosmith. seems i have the same size 'giants feet' as laura prepon. theyre in good condition and have no marks expect for 'DONNA' written on the soles. can I still wear them or should they be encased in bulletproof glass and adored from afar?

there's a question you don't come across every day.

Got a couple of weeks ago. Breaking in nicely, but the laces are too long (which is weird when wearing 16s).

Chairman Doinel (Charles McCain), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 15:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Wear them. You'll get more enjoymen that way, and when people compliment you, you can tell them an awesome story.

I was going to ask.. Who makes those red wedges? Supercute!

i want these, but in black instead of dark brown (strap color remains the same). if anyone wants to loan me $800, i'd be very grateful.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 16:02 (seventeen years ago) link

x-post
ive seen those brown/turquoise ones before. very hot. charles david, maybe.

xx-post
pagirl, yeah thats what i figure. i mean this isnt mila kunis we're talking about!

sunny successor (katharine), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 16:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Ohmigod, Lauren, I want those, too. But I would want the straps to be black, as well. Otherwise it looks a bit like bandaids holding your feet together.

rtcotm (mwah), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 16:06 (seventeen years ago) link

have you seen them in person? the straps actually look really good in that pale color, and moreover i don't think vw does the flat kind in solid black (though you can get high-heeled versions).

LAUREN STOP LOOKING AT WINTER SHOES. I don't care what WWD sez. Plus I haven't even thought about sandals for the upcoming two-month heatwave.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 16:10 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't know what the red wedges are! I can't find them on zappos again :( (and apparently zappos doesn't even ship to canada (wha?) so I shall remain in my shoe-fantasy world as per.) Laurel will let us know though, I hope.

totally wear the donna shoes! but not a lot. (this is also a good excuse for having lots of other shoes.)

I dunno, I'm starting to worry about going all fetishy because I'm starting to lust after boots like this:

Vernon Jackson (kate), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 16:11 (seventeen years ago) link

laurel, black boots are year-round. i am SO NOT a "summer shoe" person.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 16:14 (seventeen years ago) link

xpost - I like that second pair - equestrian, with a touch of motorcycle/pirate!

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 16:16 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm not really a "flat shoe" person but I can do strappy summer things okay, I just need arch support FULL-TIME so at least a 1.5 or 2" heel (or more!). Obv I could drool over Sigerson Morrison all day but no joy due to budget.

The maker of those red wedges and assorted similar designs is "Bronx." They're a sort of average shoe-ghetto level of brand but they do good work here and there and I really love my bronzey leather version of those heels.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 16:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Yes, they are motorcycle cop boots.

I have a pair of motorcycle/engineers boots, but they don't have nearly enough buckles on them. Or go high enough.

Vernon Jackson (kate), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 16:20 (seventeen years ago) link

These are Bronx, too, but I think I could go for them!

whoa! oh ye smaller people with the luxury of wearing the chunky crazy shoes and still looking cute/great. (though i guess i could pull if off with a just-below-the-knee skirt. prob not.)

i don't normally like steve m@adden but i'm into these:

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 16:34 (seventeen years ago) link

Robyn, I think you are hardly a giant among women -- embrace yr statuesque-iosity!

Caution re the rope platforms above: the heel might jam your poor toe junction mercilessly into that thong. Also, the back strap doesn't buckle, it only has elastic, and that elastic WILL wear out. Granted it's only like $5 to have replaced but y'know, it's just one more thing.

Blue fishtail-y wedges are purdy!

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 16:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Laurel, you are smart about the architecture of shoes.
And yeah, hells, I'm just shy of 5'8, you are right. Living in QC really skews one's perspective though. Small-people land.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 16:44 (seventeen years ago) link

I have the Bronx wedges, but in aqua blue. They're great!

my latest:
http://www.cmonwealth.com/products/nike/stab/stab-side.jpg

I'm hgoing to pick up some brown slip-on Vans for summer soon, I did see some nice perforated leather ones in NYC but none in my size and colour preference :(

Porkpie (porkpie), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 17:44 (seventeen years ago) link

I bought:
http://www.payless.com/Images/beauty/047062_beauty.gif, http://www.payless.com/Images/beauty/046488_beauty.gif, http://www.payless.com/Images/beauty/046481_beauty.gif, https://www.payless.com/images/thumb/046280_thumb.gif, https://www.payless.com/images/thumb/046490_thumb.gif, and https://www.payless.com/images/thumb/047488_thumb.gif recently. Problem with finding all these photos is I just found about 3 more pairs I want on the website and am having a hard time unjustifying the purchase since it's freaking Payless.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 18:12 (seventeen years ago) link

i thought laurel's reddish brown ones above were going to be an ally post. purty hot.

sunny successor (katharine), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 18:18 (seventeen years ago) link

I only WISH the reddish-brown ones were available at Payless prices. Le sigh of unpaid-electric-bill-having.
