When I saw them on the TFA tour they had Common and Jill Scott with them...their "You Got Me" that night had the audience in ridiculous white people tears.

Sad no one voted for Organix. It's lo-fi and demo-y as hell but it has some freaking great songs. PASS THE WAHT PASS THE POPCORN.

nickalicious, Friday, 7 March 2008 00:49 (sixteen years ago) link

good, i thought ilx was crazy. illadelph should have been #2, though.

phrenology's not that good. are there a bunch of people cody chesnutt fans in here or something?

deej, Friday, 7 March 2008 02:47 (sixteen years ago) link

haha i never even heard Phrenology. but yeah Illadelph shoulda been higher, i still consider that the platonic definition of a Roots album.

four weeks pass...

Can't remember if I voted here or not, but if I did I'm sure it was for Game Theory. I pulled out Things Fall Apart a couple months ago, and I can't really listen to it anymore. It's so fluffy now. It feels very 90's, and not just for nostalgic reasons -- it's almost unreasonably upbeat, considering a lot of its (purported) subject matter. It's a party album for down white folx circa ten years ago, and I can't hear past that anymore.

If we had to depend on white music fans to eat, we would starve to death.

lol do u want more is such genuinely awful music u guys so silly should just blink yrselfs away

omg otm. I had this p.o.s. on my hard drive forever and one day I put it on again and got almost angry and just deleted the thing. No reason to own it. It's like a parody of the early 90's "rap n' jazz!" trend. And holy shit, live drums? DID YOU FUCKING SAY RAP MUSIC WITH LIVE DRUMS????!!!!?!??!! Get me some undies, I just had such a fit of dumb-ass out-of-step rockism-where-it-couldn't-belong-less that I shit my form-fitting pre-faded jeans and I think it's running into my Chucks.

But then, Game Theory is so so good, you guys. I'm shocked at how many people came here and admitted they haven't heard it. It's so good.

how is phrenology better than illadelph?!

titchyschneiderMk2, Sunday, 6 April 2008 10:12 (sixteen years ago) link

As much as I don't really care for the Roots, blaming them for some of their fans' shortcomings = dud

^^^OTM.

"It's like a parody of the early 90's "rap n' jazz!" trend."
