I don't know who that is, but he looks more like a rocker than an electronic artist.

(It's Masami Akita aka Merzbow)

That makes sense, noise is basically electronic music for metalheads, right?

Well, I've never met anyone who'd come to electronic music via the dance side of it, who'd be interested in noise. All noise fans I know are rockers and (ex-)metalheads.

Well to be fair Stockhausen did put out some blinding Rockabilly 45s before he wrote Kontakte.

Stockhausen was a noise artist? I guess John Cage was a turntablist then.

How old is that Jarre pic? He looks so young in it.
Steve Reich was the first hip-hop megastar

Christ, according to the address the pic is from this year?! Isn't Jarre like 60 now?

Whoa, it seems Jarre's put out a new single this year. Both the tune and the video feel like pretty attempts to stay hip with the kids:

Ha I'm amazed I recognized Pole instantly from those photos which is strange, because I've seen what he looks like, once maybe. Yeah, they do like like promo shots for some one releasing a new-age album or something.
I also guessed right off the bat that that picture of Murcof (it's him cause I checked) was Fax, because he looks mexican. Pretty damn good for such poor criteria!
Either way, everyone here is how I expected them to look except old man mixmaster morris of course. Stockhausen looks like Ian Curtis no? Ha, I'm sure he'll be getting a biopic now. Seriously though, Edgard Varese is actually rather impressive in his appearance, combines the mad-scientist in his/her lab with the eccentric professor look and comes out like a true any Musique Concrete artist should (whatever that implies)

― Tom D., Tuesday, 11 December 2007 10:06 (sixteen years ago) link
Yeah, I semi-joke about the staring into the future pose but quite a few of these pics have a wonderful dreamy-but-focussed/intent look about them. A combination of the mad scientist thing noted above with sharply Mod dress sense, some feeling of "I am making Magick happen here". The flash reflection (I assume) in the Schaeffer photo composes the whole thing really well.
― Noodle Vague, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 10:09 (sixteen years ago) link
k I'm stupid, dreamy/intent = listening, doesn't it?
