turning 30 was awesome!!

wonder what's goin on over in that 20s thread. so young and tres stupide, eh?!

I bought a 10" record just to say I owned one.

I think I've been enjoying my 30s more than I did my 20s, although "enjoying" is maybe not the right word there, but it'll do.

i like my thirties so far. i'm enjoying life more than i did in my twenties. (modern medicine may have something to do with this.)

30s are pretty good. Getting better as my kids get older and more independent, too!

The decade's been great aside from the bits that weren't (small in number, happily). I dunno, I'm just kinda relaxed about it all.

My 15-yr-old nephew thinks the newer Star Wars movies are superior to the old ones.

And why shouldn't he? (I'm not being flippant at all, I just wouldn't be surprised at that -- then again you might not be surprised either!)

I'm not surprised, it's just one of those things that expresses the gulf between us. Like the way he has a better mobile than I do.

Not as surprised as I am that my younger brother is also in his 30s now.

Yeah I still think of my little brothers as just that - even though both are in their 30s, married, with 2 kids each. They're further along the "grown up" path than I'll ever be! Tch no wonder they dont take me seriously.

Dude, I know! When my daughter says:"That's mama's ipod." I freaked out at first realizing how different the world is for her. I am already thinking of her having an email address and chatting with strangers. Parents never had to do this back in the 80s: inside they were safe 'n' sound. Although I realize that's my old age talking, as I 'm sure kids now are accustomed to the dangers and on the whole know how to protect themselves.

I remember the world before the internet. I can remember getting our first personal computer in the home. I remember PEN PALS. That you wrote to with actual PENS!!! I remember the first time I saw a floppy disc it seemed magical. The first time I saw a 3" disc, not to. I remember when CDs were supposed to be magical things that lasted forever. I remember Betamax, for f*cks sake.

i breakdanced last year, to try and distract a couple of mates who were arguing. They laughed for a few minutes, but then went back to arguing.

I'm starting to get a bad back.

Pen pals! OMG I had heaps. My first 2 boyfriends were penpals I ended up meeting! LOL proto-internet dating.

I had an Italian pen-friend, she wrote me to in Italian...I couldn't understand a word of it, so I asked my Italian teacher - Mr. O'Hara - to translate for me, and he just laughed. The letters were always on pink scented paper. Proto story of my life. I wonder if she is on Facebook now?

Ah, I do miss snail mail. I still have shoeboxes full of letters from friends.

We used to make an artform out of addressing envelopes. It become a problem when they started getting returned by the post office as illegible. How we'd pass along clippings from music magazines, with letters written on the back of them. I do miss that.

The only bit I managed to translate was that she didn't like Europe, because they were offensive.

I would volunteer that we should start an ILX0r penpal service to send spangly letters to one another... but, being in my 30s, I don't really have the time to send letters any more. Life doesn't come with a study hall period to waste decorating envelopes any more. :-(

My sentiments exactly. I'm turning 38 in a couple weeks, and I don't really have a sense of "age" these days. Sure, getting close to 40 and not being married/with kids is on my mind, but it's not really bothersome, and I feel as comfortable in my own skin as I ever have.

I have some 10" records too! And I still have my Intellivision console somewhere :/

Same here, the occasional twinge but I think that's more due to societal conditioning and expectation. (See also house ownership as a purported sign of maturity -- not out here, I think!)

But Ned, how can you pass on spending all of your money on home improvements instead of CDs and obsessively watching HGTV?

I'm in my mid thirties, and it's so funny to hear other mid 30s folks say "oh I am so old", because I'm still the youngest person I work with, and my professional friends are all in their 50s and 60s. So I feel very young, and think of aging as a good thing, since it means that you'll have learned more (supposing that you want to learn).

one of the fun things about growing up is getting to watch certain once-admired personality types age right along with you and look more sad and desperate the less they change.

and finding out that fortysomethings can be hot

i was at a bbq on saturday, and while i've been long used to being one of the sole single people there it looks like i'm going to have to get used to be being one of the few childless people in my peer group.
