ha, my application to join is still pending after a couple of weeks^^^
xpost: was looking at prices for that intersystems lp awhile back o_O
second half of last year was my vinyl buying fallow period; trying to be more discerning about what i buy & keeping an eye out for good deals nowadays.
& if i can mention other formats: picked up some michael hurley albums on cdr that i didn't have at his show last week :-)

wolfways, growlin' bobo, land of lofi. think lofi has had an lp release from memory(?) but happy to have the chance to put money directly his way.

no that's a totally different record w/a very slightly different name - Land Of Lo Fi, not Land Of Lofi :)

insane will-be-haunted-by-the-rest score this weekend, unfortunately I didn't have a grand or so to spare.
was in Eureka CA in a bookstore, noticed that they had a rack of albums, immediately noticed sealed records (Al Green, Isaac Hayes) and good pricing. TONS of Morricone, then I flipped to a mint promo copy of Armchair Boogie with the comic (and NO sticker on front!) for $25.
struck up a conversation and discovered that they had bought Rod McKuen's entire collection, nine tons of LPs. I got to look through an untouched box (half mint Morricone records, half Gloria Gaynor LPs) and ended up getting three of the Morricones, priced high but what are ya gonna do when you see things you know u will never see again.
Il Gatto - OSTSepolta Viva - OSTI Film Della Violenza - 2LP comp, this looks amazing
of course I got the Hurley as well.

Bad Mr. Mike? This came out in July in the US, I've had a copy for a month or so.
when somebody says to me "oh there are some records in a barn you should look at, take what you want" I always hope for the best and expect the worst. I dug through a few crates and ended up with two hyperventilation moments, an OG mono Impulse copy of Coltrane's Meditations and a beautiful copy of Yoko Ono's Fly, along with some six-eye Brubeck and Miles Davis records. Score!

awesome! have yet to even see a copy of fly in a decade and a half of looking. & yeah, bad mr mike... ordered from the uk (cheaper and usually faster shipping to here), must be a stocking hold-up or something. i will have patience. meanwhile, scored a copy of the first earth opera lp.

Hey how is that Pousseur? I remember liking him on a couple of comps. Is that 20 minute vinyl only track worth it?
― Forty Watson & the Jute Gute (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Saturday, 24 December 2016 07:54 (seven years ago) link
depends how you feel about 20 minutes of an oboist interacting with electronics? at times did kind of bring to mind terry riley's the gift... not sure if pousseur was working in real time manipulating some of the oboe sounds or if they were just mimicking each other at certain points. wouldn't necessarily recommend the vinyl just for that one track. trois visages de liège on the other hand is awesome & was what originally got me interested in his work, and to be honest nothing else of his i've heard has quite come close to it.

I was going to being with a mea culpa for never posting on here, but I guess that's not necessary.
Found this for $1 today--some cover wear, but the record's in perfect shape:

I'd spent a couple of years in the late '80s trying to find a Solal record because of his soundtrack work on Breathless. Finally found a discounted French import when this one record store in the Eaton's Centre was going out of business.

An older friend just gave me 150-200 records that were in his garage for a long time. Some stuff is in unplayable shape, but there are some amazing things in here: Pharaoh Sanders, Alice Coltrane, Miles (Jack Johnson & Bitches Brew), lots of prog. I need to buy a record cleaner.

maybe i could clean some of those records for you
would def be interested in knowing what some of those prog lps are!
ah, 2016... my last post in here pretty much coincided with my neighbourhood record shop closing its doors; found so much incredible stuff in there. buying online just isn't the same.
― no lime tangier, Friday, 7 August 2020 06:36 (three years ago) link
The prog is your standards: YES, all the early Genesis LPs, ELP, Gentle Giant, Moody Blues, Soft Machine (and a few predecessor and successor groups, like The Nice).
So far the stuff I thought was going to be a little rough is probably VG+ at least or will be once cleaned. A few tics and pops on a side but not bad. I've bought Miles albums in stores that were in rougher shape and was pleased.
I'm still making my way through the whole thing. The Band, Doc Watson, and lots of Hot Tuna (who I had never listened to but are great). One minor disappointment: two copies of Sticky Fingers with decent covers but pretty hammered records.

Lol, near scores: I have received a lot of free vinyl from various older friends over the last two years, including a ton of jazz. I have started getting serious about cataloging everything on Discogs and looked up a Curtis Fuller Blue Note album, which originally checked out as an OG mono copy that goes for $750 on average. It took a good amount of time and finally googling "plastylite ear" to figure out it was worth $20 instead.

went to The Exclusive Company in Milwaukee last week, dropped some cash
https://i.imgur.com/OwR74EJ.png
was cool but also slightly disheartening to see all this stuff I'd preordered through the last couple years sitting on the shelves at 10-20% less than what I paid (once you add in the shipping cost). collecting vinyl messes with your brain, there's so much "wish I'd gotten it when I had the chance" stuff over the last 5 years that's now 2-4x the original price, but outside of some clearly very limited vaporwave stuff I don't think I've ever preordered anything that was hard to get afterwards. I think I'm just going to stop doing that.
