tbh i would not be surprised to learn that there is an actual willie nelson track circa 1987 that more or less sounds like what we're getting here

It almost doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility that Willie Nelson would have a collaboration from 1987 with David Bowie and Grover Washington Jr. featuring Carmine Appice on drums and the Boston Pops. Perfect sound forever indeed.

Well fuck, that's eerie.

Needs Boris Johnson.

chap, Thursday, 13 October 2016 10:58 (seven years ago) link

they're memes in the sense they're images overlaid with text which are shared online but i guess i think of 4chan-derived memes as a different animal altogether - images which involve weird, sometimes wilfully offensive humour which mutate as they're passed around and often end up with an entirely different meaning over time

doo-doo diplomacy (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 13 October 2016 11:55 (seven years ago) link

also the kenyan-birth memes don't involve a fictional character in the same way that, say, pepe the frog or harambe memes do

doo-doo diplomacy (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 13 October 2016 11:57 (seven years ago) link

Harambe was real to me ;_;

Neil S, Thursday, 13 October 2016 12:01 (seven years ago) link

harambe is realer now as a meme than he ever was as a gorilla

Not sure if this has been discussed before...
Have we touched on this hot little number? The song was first recorded by the band Climax in 1973,[1] but it failed to chart. It was then covered by The Righteous Brothers in 1974 and reached number three on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.[2][3]

Jimi gave us rainbows
And Janis took a piece of our hearts
And Otis brought us all to the dock of the bay
Sing a song to - light my fire
Remember Jim that way,
They've all found another place,
another place to play

If you believe in forever,
Then life is just a one-night stand.
If there's a rock and roll heaven,
Well you know they've got a hell of a band,
Band,
Band!
