In New York, the National Weather Service said 25.1 inches of snow had fallen on Central Park by 7:30 p.m., making the storm the city’s third-biggest since 1869.

Travel ban ends at 7a.m.

Underground only subway service remains in effect at this time. Portions of the exterior network will be restored at 9:00 a.m. Consult Service Status for the latest service information.

We advise customers if at all possible to remain at home during the duration of this storm.

NYT:

According to New York City’s shoveling rules, if it stops snowing between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m., you have until 11 a.m. to clear your sidewalk.

In this case, the snow stopped falling around 2 a.m., the National Weather Service said.

All you need to do is clear a path four feet wide β€” enough to accommodate a wheelchair or double stroller. If you are a tenant, it is the landlord’s responsibility to clear the snow.

Of course, you could let nature and SnoMelt do the job for you. It is supposed to be sunny today, with a high of 33. (Interestingly, even when it’s below freezing, snow evaporates, going directly from a solid to a gas! The process is called sublimation.)

But that would be wrong. And you could be fined up to $150 and go to jail for up to 10 days, even for a first offense. And the city could shovel your walk and bill you for it.
