i have my first nice landlord ever :)

asked him for some spare keys recently and he'd popped them through the letterbox by the time I got home from work, no charge.

I'm sure Ive told the story about the time my last landlord who I unfortunately lived *next door* to, barged angrily into my house one evening shouting abuse and drawing "turn me off" on the wall under a light switch, bcs I'd had the temerity to leave the porchlight on all day, and this somehow made me ungrateful for him having changed the bulb... no, I didn't get the logic either.(it was my electricity on that bulb, not his).

Whenever I see people at the gym who, like, sit on an exercise bike reading a book and barely pedaling at all. It's like, you bothered to take time out of your day to go to a gym, and now you are passive-aggressively wasting your time because you are too good for, or too scared of working out or something. Get over your weird hangups and just work out.

So , finally got some actionon the washing machine front. GOt sent one out today.
IT's a washer dryer but there are no instructions in the manual as to how to use the dryer. Several ways of setting up wash cycles, nothing about setting up the dryer. can't even tell if it is supposed to automatically switch onto dryer after a wash. If it is it doesn't seem to have worked.
Only thing i can see it able to do is set up a drying cycle that lasts 16 minutes and I can't see that being right.

Looks from an advice booklet that came with the instructions booklet as though there should be specific instructions for setting up the dryer so wondering if I'm just missing a booklet or what.

Previous machine was much easier to see how to set things up.
The guy who delivered it said he just grabbed one from their storage place or something. So am hoping i have got a good one. He had to undo the packaging around it anyway so it was new or at least unused.
But not the best set of instructions and I can't find anything online that doesn't simply reproduce the contents of teh boklet taht only talks about wash cycles.

Stevolende, Tuesday, 1 December 2015 21:17 (eight years ago) link

& of course the reason is that the landlord took away a broken washer/dryer and replaced it with a washing machine without a dryer which is a drag over the winter.

Stevolende, Tuesday, 1 December 2015 21:34 (eight years ago) link

I nearly fucked up a brand new Bosch washing machine last year by not removing the transit bolts, it was quite traumatic at the time and the 2nd time I had made the same mistake.

xelab, Tuesday, 1 December 2015 22:17 (eight years ago) link

Oh god I had a horror of that with the machines I got delivered last year - I hadnt paid close attention to the delivery men's unpacking and setting up/plugging in of the washer and dryer and when they left, I thought "er... did they take those bolts out?". Couldnt see em, they hadnt mentioned it, and now they were installed there was no way I was gonna shift them on my own. I just crossed my fingers and started the machine up and was lucky.

I checked Snoops , and it is for real (Trayce), Tuesday, 1 December 2015 22:23 (eight years ago) link

If they are still there the spin cycle becomes quite violent and then you ponder how much damage has been caused to this appliance that you haven't even started paying for yet!

xelab, Tuesday, 1 December 2015 22:33 (eight years ago) link

I think I'm just suffering from a lack of communication between the various letting agents and the various repairmen. Had one guy come out to my place a couple of weeks back, look at the machine, say it was probably kaput because it was a heating element gone & they don't get replaced any more. Then tell me I was going to hear from the office over the next week, & then when I did hear it looks like it was a response to an earlier email I'd sent rather than to this guy having reported back. I finally got the agent who was looking after this premises ring me the next week and say he was going to come over and check the machine, to have me respond wondering if he was aware that somebody had already been around a week and a half earlier.
So this guy had never come around to see what the machine being replaced was and thinking back I'd been refering to it asa wasghing machine rather than a washer/dryer. So may have been better if I'd actually had this guy come around too cos he would have known better that it was one thing rather than the other. Not sure if that letting agency had been looking afte rthis property when I'd been given the previous one.
Now just wondering if I can survive without that drying facility. Hope I'm not going to wind up with mildewed clothing.

Thinking i can untangle the thread that's wrapped itself around the spindle under the bobbin I was trying to thread. So spending ages while I'm trying to watch some show on tv driving myself up the wall trying to unravel it so that it can be used. seemed like almost a reel full. Well finally saw sense and gave up so just wasted it. Hope taht isn't going to repeat

That coupled with just missing the bus last night while I was trying to get the sewing machine home so I get into rush hour time with a large box on me that I have to fight through a crowd to get onto transport. Saw the one I missed seemed to be half empty.
But there's always a bus disappears from the timetable at the beginnning of the rush hour so there's always twice as many people need to get on the one that does appear.
Thanfully did manage to get to a rear corner seat so didn't have the entire crowd pressing up against the thing.

BUt I do no have a sewing machine that should be much better than the previous one so I can get down to building even more of a wardrobe. hopefully catch up with all the things I've been meaning to make all year, if I can just get the energy together.

at the supermarket checkout today he wasn't pushing the things he'd scanned down the little slope into the bagging area but just leaving them on the flat bit at the top by the scanner. was a surprisingly awkward place for me to reach.

Hard drive just gave up registering out of the blue. Not sure what was on it, but it was the last one I filled before the current one and I really don't know why it did so. Unless it is just suddenly overheating and I don't know why anything there would have changed.

This has happened before with other drives but every time they do this it's annoying. 1 TB nearly completely full. Thne yesterday it started saying that there were no files on there though it was reading how much of the disc was full. & it did reappear the files when the computer was restarted. Bummer.

Wondering if my yahoo mailbox has just messed up because of the upgrade of my computer to Windows 10 or if it is just conicidence.
It keeps failing to load, has claimed it hasn't connected to the internet at times and has just disappeared at least one email because fo this lack of connection.
Maybe I should just stop using the service since it hasn't really gone good after the major upheaval a couple of years ago. but I just have that as the main address for everything and have had for like 13 years.

Is it Universally panned and only used by me out of habit ?
Are other services much better?

two weeks pass...

there's a sign at work pointing out how to get to a specific wing on the 2nd floor. the sign points you to go around and to the right, and cutting back in left after walking a distance.

however, if you ignore the sign and just walk straight back, the wing is right there. the directions the sign gives take twicea s long to get there. why the hell do they make you go all the way around when it's just straight back?

Fandango gives you the option of mobile tickets. Says take to ticket taker.

I get there and show to ticket taker and he goes "nope you gotta go to guest services".

So I wait in that line...get the tickets...have to wait in original line again. People that printed their tickets waited half the time I did.

Windows 10 has a new surprise. Going to blackscreen after you sign into your computer account.
Appears that the computer misrecognises the location of the desktop display as though you have 2 monitors so sends the image to the wrong place. Makes it look like your computer hasn't booted.

Hate walking down narrow pavements, trying to work my way through a crowd only to find my path is blocked by somebody picking that moment to spin their pram around.

THen walking to a building I have an appointment in only to find out that somebody with a double buggy has parked it right across teh doorway.

Maybe pram clamp/boot things wouldn't be amiss either.

i get why certain things of high, urgent importance or things that can be misconstrued if not spoken out loud shouldn't be handled through email, but some people actually seem to actually take offense that you send them an email requesting something of them at all. like....if we can't do that, why have it at all? one thing if you're sending 35 emails for everything and causing inboxes to fill, another when you know you send one every two weeks.

since this is the irrational thread: I dunno why it winds me up so much that my coworker is so cheap (brings his own bottle of tap water to team pub lunches; never puts money into anyone's leaving collection; charges his iPad and Kindle at work even though he doesn't use either at work, or on the commute since he drives) while always having the latest gadget, new electric car, new designer watches and trainers every few months

I mean it's none of my business and I guess people who do that stuff would tell me that if I didn't piss away a few quid on little things every day then I too could save up for the latest flashy whatevers. they may even be right, I'd rather not add it up tbh
