i gotta cop to having compulsively watched this; it's sorta like seeing every potter in every studio everywhere. Very standard types.

Anyways, this is the latest thing I've invested a fair amount of effort in.

rather proud that i got the pattern on the top and on the lid to be one contiguous path apiece.

This material can not be other than soil. The project focuses on the natural properties of soil. Earth, or Soil, as a construction material has been used since Neolithic times. The advantages of an earth – soil structure are primarily related to both the environment and economy, being secure and friendly to our environment. Soil also offers the benefits of natural insulation, fire protection, air circulation, low first cost, 100% recyclable structures, stiffness, great strength, thermal flywheel effect, low greenhouse emissions, regulating the climate and providing a healthy Indoor environment.

i've had something of a breakthrough in my trimming technique that's allowed me to make much lighter bowls. These are the things that make me happy.
Just spent six hours at the studio detailing some recent stuff. Here's the most recent batch, including my first paid requisition: the hash mark bowl in the back there. I also made a little "DRINK ME" vial as a gift for my gf's sister's kid. you can also put your weed in there.

this thing took me almost two hours to carve; I purposely left a lot of thickness on the body and then traced out a freehand flowing abstract pattern, then carved it out in relief and gave the raised portion a light drybrushing with porcelain. It looks a lot cooler in person

The pangolin pattern, the ripple pattern and hashmark pattern are all things I've gotten practiced and better at over time. The big ears cup is a first time thing.

an art brut freeform vase

a more rigorously designed and executed vase with top; this thing was a bitch to build and I'm pleased with the way the glaze interacted with the meticulous detail work I put on.

Omg those vases are incredible! What type of glaze did you use on the second one?

I wish I had access to pottery equipment now. Growing up, my mum was always making stuff and we had a little kiln in the kitchen that would make the house unliveabley hot in the summer.

thanks; it's a mix of glazes on the "circles" vase, blue base and an accent to get the runniness. I wish it had been more translucent to keep the detail but you gotta deal with what they give ya.

haven't checked this thread in a while, your evolution is cool to see!

i think like three years ago i asked if you could make things with lids, clearly you are doing that now.

call all destroyer, Friday, 2 September 2016 00:51 (seven years ago) link

lol, yes. i know this thread may seem bloggy and self obsessed but i really wanted a place i could share, as you put it, "my evolution".
i'm fully intending to keep doing this until I die. Hopefully i will get better!

Six hours at the studio last night doing detail work before putting this in the kiln.

I will work on yr salt dish and a few other things shortly... would welcome other requests? I find doing requested work challenging and interesting; gives me the opportunity to learn new skills and test others.

Sorry if huge:

gotta ask why do you always make these giant handles

Nhex, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 15:10 (seven years ago) link

just something I'm experimenting with these two or three batches; interested in the trickiness of expanding the surface design to the handle.
also it all shrinks in the kiln so it makes sense to make everything larger than you would think in the throwing.

now with hand painted glazes; jesus christ, this took me twelve hours. seriously. It might not work. I'll find out next week.
