You diagnose me with monomania and yet you're not an Armchair Psychologist yourself? Okay.
The more likely scenaro is that no matter whether one is gay or straight or somewhere in between, the idea of GG's nasty cock in one's mouth is repulsive,
I'd buy that if the tone of the audience hadn't changed so decidedly. And yeah, the biddies comment was shitty of me.
But get back to the music, maaaaaaan (never mind that the music matters less here than it does with Milli Vanilli).
I had a chance to see him in Chicago. The club was called Exit or The Exit. I even want to say I remember the day - Jan. 5 (forget the year). Sadly, I didn't get to go because I couldn't find anyone to drive me into the city from the burbs in inclement weather (and to go see GG Allin).
But I did take a leak in a bathroom in which Allin reportedly asked a girl to piss in a cup so he could drink it.

saw him at the cat club ca. '87 -- gerard cosloy and j mascis in the band. g.g. ate a lot of ex-lax before the show, hurled poop into the audience. even though i was in the back in a ridiculous jean jacket, i later discovered a splotch of brown stuff on the back of the jacket.
shoulda saved it -- i'm sure gg's poop would fetch a lot on ebay nowadays.
ohh, and the show was okay.

I can't believe I actually have to explain this, but the humor in that scene comes from the fact that the narrator is casually mentioning G.G. having a devoted fanbase, which (as David R. illustrated quite humorously), one might usually take to mean obsessive collectors, or even Beatlemania-style screamers, but in fact is illustrated with a matter-of-fact snapshot of a smiling fan giving a thumbs up while blowing this filthy, gnarly scumbag, who is passed out. One assumes sexuality has nothing at all to do with this scenario (I actually don't recall any point in the film where G.G.'s sexuality is explored at all, but it's been ages since I saw it) - it's just another moment of crusty shock; the gutter punk version of frat house pictures of guys drawing on their passed out friends' faces, maybe.
I have no problem at all with guys blowing each other - I'm all for it. The scene is OBVIOUSLY played for laughs through the contrast between the narration and the visual. Maybe you could argue against the director's intentions, but not with fucking ME for thinking that it's hilarious.
― Savannah Smiles, Sunday, 27 April 2008 01:24 (sixteen years ago) link
Actually, you DO have to explain. Or rather, ONE has to explain. This portion of the thread started because Stephen called that scene "ridiculous." (And actually, what exactly was ridiculous is unclear. Was it the scene or the comment about the scene?) That's it - just "ridiculous" which can mean MANY things.
Yes, of course, I get the humor of the scene (and David R.'s illustration). I think it's funny too. So more power to ya for being all for guys blowing each other and thinking that the scene is hilarious. I applaud both realities. Seriously.
But yet again (gee Phil, guess my monomania was justified after all), in a sold out auditorium of people watching that scene, not a single person laughed even though they had been laughing at everything else up until that point. The scene is indeed obviously played for laughs. And yet...
So one might assume "sexuality has nothing at all to do with this scenario" (not me, though). But it sure had everything to do with that particular response. And ALL I was trying to do was figure out if that "ridiculous" comment was a species of same.

The funniest part about the show was that some guy with a fro came out before GG and sang 2 or 3 punkish songs to many boos before he fessed up and taunted the audience with "do you REALLY want GG ALLIN???"

I can't believe I'm having to clarify this, either... but by "ridiculous" i obviously meant "ridiculously funny" and Savannah Smiles summed up the inherent humor perfectly a few posts up.

Having now watched the documentary on PTV and (browsed) the YouTube clips linked above, I was wondering if anyone could clarify: Did GG ever actually rape anyone onstage, as he claims in the Springer clip? I find this very hard to believe, as it seems violent intervention would have been inevitable before he would have gotten even close to penetration. I would assume he's just full of bluster about the rape thing, but the clips from the doc of him randomly assaulting both men and women have me curious.

i chickened out of going to see him at the khyber once. but then i wasn't really a fan or anything. and i just didn't feel like leaving the apartment.
my pal malcom was friends with gg and he supposedly has tons of homemade footage of gg in the woods and and all manner of cock on cock action, but i never saw any of it. can't say i'm disappointed.
the dude who did seriously scare me back then was malcom's friend brian - who was also friends with gg i think - in that "scary junkie who looks like he could stab your eyes out at any minute" kinda way. he was in starvation army. he's dead too. i don't really miss these people. i only really miss the sad, gentle junkies i knew who died. they existed too.

Phillips's Frat House is on Google Video:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7261092316031625877
According to Wikipedia it was nothing so exciting as HBO "burying" it because Phillips crossed ethical lines. It was just that hazing scenes were staged so they didn't show it.

yeah, that was pretty much my attitude at the time, too -- even wrote a review of g.g.'s live r.o.i.r. cassette to that effect. but then, i was never much a fan of karen finley performance art schtick or wesley willis indie-rock insanity fetishes either.
in retrospect, though, his music doesn't seem like it was completely horrible. i've known a few people who are even bigger fans of, say, the 4 skins or david allen coe or antiseen or rose tattoo or count bishops than i am, and they liked g.g., too; i can sort of get that -- his music sounded kinda like a way more half-assed version of that stuff. what i never got was the people who said they liked him but didn't seem to have any use at all for rose tattoo/4 skins/bishops/coe/antiseen/etc. that made no sense; they sure weren't going to see him for his songs.

I saw him in Chicago at Club Exit on Wells St. w/Squirrelbait and Volcano Suns. It must have been 1986. He didn't have a band with him, he just "sang" along with some taped music as accompaniment. He was first up in the line-up and was pretty bad. He shoved his mike up his butt.

I missed the GG/Squirrel Bait/Volcano Suns show too, but I remember seeing the flyers lying by the front door at Wax Trax. Saw him perform a few years later in a small room upstairs at Medusa's. He had pissed on himself so much that his attempts to light his pubic hair on fire were doomed to failure.
Also, not a GG concert, but I think it counts: saw him sitting in the audience in the balcony at Cabaret Metro as part of a club full of people who paid to watch a bunch of classic rock and punk video footage, hosted by the Psychotronic guy. There was some Stooges footage (as I recall it was a segue from footage of Chuck Berry doing the song that "1970" copped a verse from), and as soon as Iggy hit the screen GG leaped out of his chair, screaming "Yeah!" in a paroxysm of joy and idol worship. In a lot of ways that was better than seeing GG perform.
