Detroit's Andre Drummond is the first player with 135 points and 135 rebounds through his team's first seven games since Wilt Chamberlain in 1970-71

craze

lag∞n, Tuesday, 10 November 2015 16:40 (eight years ago) link

i was thinking about the alternate history yesterday where the cavs take drummond instead of waiters

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 10 November 2015 16:56 (eight years ago) link

terrence ross one pick ahead of drummond is also an underrated all-time bad pick

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 10 November 2015 16:56 (eight years ago) link

him slipping to 9th is pretty crazy

lag∞n, Tuesday, 10 November 2015 17:01 (eight years ago) link

like super athletic 6-11 guys who can catch the ball arent usually overlooked

lag∞n, Tuesday, 10 November 2015 17:03 (eight years ago) link

he was really bad at uconn but yeah you sort of have to roll the dice with a guy with that kind of body and skills

k3vin k., Tuesday, 10 November 2015 17:19 (eight years ago) link

i think the way the league is going now that athletic 7 footers just aren't going to slip like that over offensive concerns. if a guy can defend the rim and catch lobs off the pick and roll that's an immediately valuable player (i.e. cauley stein)

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 10 November 2015 18:50 (eight years ago) link

yeah the tyson chandler model was def under appreciated a few years ago in ways its not now, but still teams have always loved athletic big men!

lag∞n, Tuesday, 10 November 2015 18:53 (eight years ago) link

yeah it was dumb. i mean drummond had major attitude questions right?

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 10 November 2015 18:55 (eight years ago) link

i guess i dont remember why everyone was mad at him

June 26 Update: Andre Drummond: The next Dwight Howard or the next Kwame Brown?

Who knows? Really.

Drummond has all of the tools to be the next Howard. At 18, he's already 7 feet tall, 280 pounds. He has a 7-foot-6 wingspan and elite athletic abilities. That's not a basketball player; that's a basketball god.

But he's also the second-youngest player in the draft, and at times it shows. He doesn't always play hard. He takes off plays and sometimes entire games. His skill level (highlighted by his awful 29.5 percent free throw shooting) is a major work in progress. He doesn't always work hard off the court to improve his game. And when you talk to him, he sounds more like a 16-year-old trapped in the body of a 28-year-old giant.

Anyone who says he knows what Drummond will be is a psychic or a fraud. If he lands on the right team, gets the right coaching and is open to dedicating himself completely to the game, he could be the next Howard.

If Drummond is left on his own, isn't forced to develop or just decides that he doesn't really like basketball, Brown isn't out of the question.

More likely, he's somewhere in between those guys. DeAndre Jordan, anyone?

Hassan Whiteside (17-13-10) is only active player w/ multiple career triple-doubles of the pts-reb-blk variety. It's his 77th career game.

meanwhile, Paul Millsap just became the first player to record at least 15 boards, 5 blocks and 5 triples in a game since the inception of the 3-point line in 1979-80 in Saturday night's big home win over Boston.

Better Pau Gasol (Spottie), Monday, 11 April 2016 21:18 (eight years ago) link

Not convinced that Millsap isn't better than Draymond tbh

tsrobodo, Monday, 11 April 2016 22:53 (eight years ago) link

draymond the better defensive player by a fair amount but it's prob closer than some people think

call all destroyer, Monday, 11 April 2016 22:56 (eight years ago) link

Milsapp has been a monster on D recently (and for most of the season tbf). Don't think Draymond is as good a paint/rim protector but he's more comfortable on a switch.

tsrobodo, Monday, 11 April 2016 23:09 (eight years ago) link

I used to get Millsap and Carl Landry mixed up in fantasy; are their games anything at all similar, having barely ever seen either of them play?

Plus that turnover ratio...

tsrobodo, Monday, 11 April 2016 23:38 (eight years ago) link

Have to imagine he'd average a few more assists if he was kicking out to Steph and Klay instead of Kyle "hard regression to the mean" Korver and Touch me Teague me.
