Oh wow it got a uk release, hurrah. The first one didn't (for basically no reason at all) so I didn't expect this to either.

JimD, Wednesday, 4 November 2015 00:51 (eight years ago) link

Oh wait it turns out the first one DID come out here eventually. And now it's 50% off! So I guess I'll just buy that for now.

JimD, Wednesday, 4 November 2015 01:08 (eight years ago) link

if someone were to get this game and stream it on twitch, up to 8 ilxors could play at once (and more in the "audience") with nothing more than an internet-capable device. this is something i would be interested in doing (although my internet connection is so spotty that i'm not sure i'd be a good streaming candidate although I am willing to try)

nerd shit (Will M.), Wednesday, 4 November 2015 16:24 (eight years ago) link

admittedly I don't trust ILX involvement enough to throw down $25

Nhex, Wednesday, 4 November 2015 16:37 (eight years ago) link

i drunkenly ordered a PS4 last night, should arrive sometieme today. i bought it mainly to play fallout 4, but in the meantime i guess i'll checkout Uncharted (i haven't had a playstation since PS1 so this is actually exciting to me).

Karl Malone, Saturday, 7 November 2015 18:25 (eight years ago) link

noice!

Nhex, Saturday, 7 November 2015 18:34 (eight years ago) link

anyone else playing battlefront? downloading now, and just received my exclusive yearlong access to playstation + by forking over 50 bucks

Karl Malone, Friday, 20 November 2015 21:44 (eight years ago) link

Is it worth it? Feels like it would run out of steam after a few days.

Insane Prince of False Binaries (Gukbe), Saturday, 21 November 2015 00:14 (eight years ago) link

i kinda got bored after 2 hours or so tbh. :( i didn't try out too many kinds of missions, though. i guess i need to level up a bit more and get new abilities, but the combat was just like

pew pew, i died!
pew pew pew, i died!
whoa, cool ship flying by! whoa i died!
hey i killed something! pew pew, i died!
etc etc
"han solo has arrived" *YES* pew pew i died

LOL this sums up BF quite nicely.

I checked Snoops , and it is for real (Trayce), Friday, 27 November 2015 01:53 (eight years ago) link

I meant to go back and add that although most of the modes suck, the greatness of Walker Assault is so extreme that it makes up for the rest of the game. It is amazing

Karl Malone, Friday, 27 November 2015 01:57 (eight years ago) link

Should be a Death Star battle map tho.

I checked Snoops , and it is for real (Trayce), Friday, 27 November 2015 02:17 (eight years ago) link

There are several DLC packs already planned, so I'm sure it'll eventually make its way in.

Karl Malone, Friday, 27 November 2015 02:36 (eight years ago) link

And although that's annoying because it means I'll have to sink more $$ into the game, the Death Star map will be so amazing

Karl Malone, Friday, 27 November 2015 02:37 (eight years ago) link

Thats how they git ya!

I checked Snoops , and it is for real (Trayce), Friday, 27 November 2015 03:06 (eight years ago) link

Probably a lot I'm gonna get in this sale, including USF4, The Order 1886, Wolfenstein. Don't forget to use the 10% off coupon code on the front page.
Already got NBA 2K16 from Best Buy, hemming and hawing as usual over other BF store items like Destiny, Until Dawn, Diablo III, Borderlands, Evil Within. Guilty Gear Xrd & Blazblue also on sale on PSN.

Nhex, Friday, 27 November 2015 03:14 (eight years ago) link

How do you have so much hard drive space?

Insane Prince of False Binaries (Gukbe), Friday, 27 November 2015 03:34 (eight years ago) link

I am down for mordor goty and witcher 3

Eugene Goostman (forksclovetofu), Friday, 27 November 2015 03:39 (eight years ago) link

half that stuff I mentioned is on sale in physical format at Best Buy, Gamestop, Target etc.
(and also I upgraded my drive to 2TB when I got the PS4)

Nhex, Friday, 27 November 2015 07:12 (eight years ago) link

How did you upgrade?

Insane Prince of False Binaries (Gukbe), Friday, 27 November 2015 21:21 (eight years ago) link

Nevermind. I looked it up. Thought there might be a Sony HDD thing I couldn't find.

Insane Prince of False Binaries (Gukbe), Friday, 27 November 2015 21:28 (eight years ago) link

Bought a 2TB USB 3.0 drive, tore the casing open, stuck the drive in my PS4. The PS3 had the same upgrade capabilities w/internal 2.5' (laptop, thin) hard drives

xp yeah, Sony's much nicer about this stuff than MS for the past generation, though I hear now you can just straight up use USB 3.0 drives on X1?

Nhex, Friday, 27 November 2015 21:32 (eight years ago) link

picked up witcher in the sale. controls are janky & everyone's an arsehole but enjoying it so far

hot doug stamper (||||||||), Friday, 27 November 2015 22:00 (eight years ago) link

my gamer tag (or id or whatever) is we_invent_you if anyone wants to add me and run around in star wars (walker assault mode of course). i don't use the headset but i will follow you around and try to shoot things with you.

Karl Malone, Thursday, 3 December 2015 02:44 (eight years ago) link

so I should get one of these?

El Tomboto, Saturday, 5 December 2015 19:08 (eight years ago) link

funny enough I think Rogue Galaxy remastered for 1080p is likely to be the tipping point for me

El Tomboto, Saturday, 5 December 2015 19:20 (eight years ago) link

I have been having a fantastic time with battlefront and fallout4. Uncharted sucks ass, though. 2 thumbs down, WAY down from me on the uncharted trilogy (the one I picked as my bundle, stupidly)

Karl Malone, Saturday, 5 December 2015 20:04 (eight years ago) link

witcher 3 is a traet so far, though the controls are a littttttttle janky imo

jason waterfalls (gbx), Saturday, 5 December 2015 20:16 (eight years ago) link

Ni No Kuni 2 announced hooray!

JimD, Saturday, 5 December 2015 22:38 (eight years ago) link

I really rarely give a shit about the big announcements at major gaming / console events since they seem like they're always just about the latest FPS franchise entry or some other multiplayer twitch nonsense I'll be horrifically bad at, but the headlines coming out of the PSE today really, really make me want one. Trick would be finding time to play.

El Tomboto, Sunday, 6 December 2015 01:02 (eight years ago) link

I played Quiplash from the Jack Box party pack 2 again, this time at a party with ~15 people. Everyone was able to either play or vote in every round... this game is genius. Not even joking, threatening to take my GOTY vote from Metal Gear. Perfect party game.

nerd shit (Will M.), Tuesday, 8 December 2015 16:06 (eight years ago) link

yeah i got a ps4 recently and had been wondering if i had lost the capacity to get into a game, phantom pain kinda riled me, but i am loving the witcher 3. agree about the controls though, turning the horse around can be irritating, and though the tutorials are mostly good, equipping stuff seems needlessly complicated for a while. i've had a few situations early on where i hadn't got a clue how to use a given item even though i knew i had it.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 8 December 2015 18:49 (eight years ago) link

yeah, i had been striking out on games for a while, too --- far cry 4 is kinda meh for some reason, shadows of mordor was fun but i just couldn't get into it, arkham knight was involving, and i've only a little bit of it left

genuinely loving the witcher, though, and kinda looking forward to picking my way through it all winter (i only really play a couple times a week and for a couple hours at a stretch)

jason waterfalls (gbx), Tuesday, 8 December 2015 21:17 (eight years ago) link

yeah, same with me. i need something relatively easy but also engrossing enough that i'll actually bother to play it. fits the bill perfectly. really annoying having to find my way back to white orchard to level up at the moment though, i wish it had made it clear you need to do all the side missions.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 8 December 2015 22:08 (eight years ago) link

ooh yeah -- i have avoided walk-throughs but did read something on ?kotaku that was a beginner's primer or w/e and one of the tips was "make sure you visit every single question mark in white orchard" (nb doing everything = significant armor/weapon upgrade)

based on my limited experience in the wider world, 'visiting every question mark' as a general strategy might not be similarly necessary for level progression, but it sure seems appealing for the casual gamer. which seems counter-intuitive, since i've read a number of articles that are basically like 'these open world sandbox games have gotten too long!' ...but the side-quests in the witcher are actually fun/interesting enough that i can treat them as worthwhile diversions. if i've only got an hour or two to play, it's actually easier and more entertaining to bop off on a potentially funny/poignant lil side job than it is to settle into a multi-part quest that advances the main story. i just finished what i think is the first real dungeon and afterwards i was like "welp i think it's time to just investigate some local weirdness, that took longer than I thought"

jason waterfalls (gbx), Tuesday, 8 December 2015 23:21 (eight years ago) link

also avoiding fast travel except when finishing a quest is a really great way to appreciate ~the gameworld~ and also pick off those areas of interest and mark them for return later

jason waterfalls (gbx), Tuesday, 8 December 2015 23:23 (eight years ago) link

traded in Star Wars Battlefront already. huge star wars fans, have loved some star wars games in the past, even a big FPS fan... but it was just weak. looks and sounds amazing, but gameplay is just so repetitive and there's so little content. in exchange got Alien Isolation, The Evil Within and Killzone Shadow Fall. i reckon even the last of those will be more enjoyable than battlefront

jamiesummerz, Friday, 18 December 2015 15:26 (eight years ago) link

Super Mega Baseball is $4 - maybe I'll pick it up on the recommendations here.
And Gradius V because I never played that in the PS2 days.

Nhex, Monday, 28 December 2015 15:15 (eight years ago) link

picked up SMB, it's great fun so far but I've no idea what all the abbreviated skills, positions and special abilities mean.

hot doug stamper (||||||||), Monday, 28 December 2015 16:13 (eight years ago) link

got a PS4 for christmas. Haven't had a system since PS2 so this is interesting . so far getting schooled in NBA2k and just started on Witcher 3 . Haven't been able to set aside a few good hours yet.

three weeks pass...

tonight i made it to 61st in the world on resogun:demolition mode. my highest ranking. i was stuck at 66th forever. i changed my tactics today and voila. i want to make it into the top 50. if they ever come out with a new resogun i think they'll have to put me in the loony bin.

scott seward, Sunday, 24 January 2016 05:49 (eight years ago) link

highly recommend Life Is Strange - it is clunky and slow and i never need to hear the protagonist say "wowsers" again but it's like nothing else i've ever played and by the 4th episode it really starts figuring out how to be great - seriously on tenterhooks for the last ep, which is already loaded up and ready to go

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 24 January 2016 12:51 (eight years ago) link

by the way i'm still on a PS3 and apparently Yakuza 5 (which just came out as a PS3 exclusive??) is awesome in a great-side-quest open-worldy kind of way

same, tho bloodborne rather than NBA. the jet set willy difficulty level of bb really intensifies the hard work put into atmospherics. like walking across the bridge to The Cleric, produced a genuine feeling of fear and tension I don't think I've felt in a game before.

witcher iii far more relaxed obv and it's extremely enjoyable just trotting around completing side quests, tho got trapped in underground ice king quest at too low a level for ages.

I'm steering clear of resogun - scott's sad decline into rg-induced insanity a hogarthian moral progress for our times.

Just picked up The Last of Us to start during the snowstorm. What an amazing game! I had really no idea what to expect but I’m blown away.
