god, i used to listen to this on a loop. yes, the lp version is denuded of everything that makes the single version so triumphant and messed up.

I like the album version and think it fits better - the single version would be too jarring in the context of the rest of the album, though its one of the weaker tracks on there

This album holds up really well for me, particularly the last few tracks

I see your point. Don't know what to do if I play the album again - which I probably will. Might have to skip it and have a separate Wilmot moment another time.

Wilmoth Houdini's Uncle Jo' Gimme Mo (cf. vahid upthread) uses the same melody but the trumpet sample (or recreation of) comes from his Black but Sweet:
