Nick said, "OH NOEZ PUERTO RICANS!!!"

Jesse, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:06 (sixteen years ago) link

What are we saving Jesse from? 13 blocks of walking?

sisut, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:06 (sixteen years ago) link

I also got drizzunk with Kenan and Renee there about a year and a half ago. And Hstencil was among a group of us that watched Bosco + Jorge play there in February 2002. I've only been there a handful of times, but most of them have been memorable.

jaymc, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:06 (sixteen years ago) link

I had an Abita for the first time there.

Puerto Rico . . .
You ugly island . . .
Island of tropic diseases.
Always the hurricanes blowing,
Always the population growing . . .
And the money owing,
And the babies crying,
And the bullets flying.
I like the CITY CHICAGO
Smoke on your pipe and put that in!

Puerto Rico,
You lovely island . . .
Island of tropical breezes.
Always the pineapples growing,
Always the coffee blossoms blowing . . .

KitCat, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:08 (sixteen years ago) link

nick (or anyone), do you have any idea about the timing for the gig tonight? i think doors are at 9 and there's 4 bands, 2 of which toby wants to see. he tried to call to get stage times, to no avail...

colette, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:09 (sixteen years ago) link

It'll probably be pretty close to on time, Empty Bottle is good at running on schedule, give or take 15 or 20 minutes.

n/a, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:11 (sixteen years ago) link

That walk seems a lot longer than 1.5 miles in my mind.

n/a, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:11 (sixteen years ago) link

Well, I mean, it won't start 20 minutes early. That would be dumb.

n/a, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:12 (sixteen years ago) link

but if he wants to see the last 2 bands and we're not fussed about the first two, what time should we get there?

colette, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:13 (sixteen years ago) link

NICKKKK, WHAT THE HELL ARE WE GOING TO DO TONIGHT!??!?!

KitCat, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:13 (sixteen years ago) link

10:30ish to be safe? Might sell out though...

n/a, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:14 (sixteen years ago) link

Jesse, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:15 (sixteen years ago) link

colette, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:17 (sixteen years ago) link

Going to be 87 degrees on Tuesday. Hooray for heat.

Jeff, Saturday, 15 September 2007 02:21 (sixteen years ago) link

I would have totally gone to OM tonight, but I didn't know about it. Now I don't have shoes on.

Jeff, Saturday, 15 September 2007 02:23 (sixteen years ago) link

Reading an entire day's worth of Chicago posts at the end of the day is very interesting. It's like a really bad book, that I bought instead of getting it out of the library. So I feel compelled to continue reading.

Jeff, Saturday, 15 September 2007 02:24 (sixteen years ago) link

Wow, Dempster really sucks.

Jeff, Saturday, 15 September 2007 02:30 (sixteen years ago) link

jeff, why don't you come to om? we're not leaving for another 20 mins or so...

colette, Saturday, 15 September 2007 02:41 (sixteen years ago) link

today's posts were especially exhausting.

kenan, Saturday, 15 September 2007 02:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Thanks for the encouragement Colette, but I'm going to pass. Are people doing anything tomorrow night?

FYI, Jenny's in Delaware, so any interactions with me would be with just and awkward me.

Jeff, Saturday, 15 September 2007 02:48 (sixteen years ago) link

people were princess and professor crabbypants today.

i think we're doing nothing tomorrow night.

i'm not convinced by this OM thing, but i've bailed out on music toby likes too many times, so i'm going along.

colette, Saturday, 15 September 2007 02:54 (sixteen years ago) link

I just saw a commercial for Catch 35. Have you seen this Jesse?

Jeff, Saturday, 15 September 2007 03:03 (sixteen years ago) link

87? Lame. I'm pretty over summer at this point. I'm ready to settle in with the sweaters and scarves.

Lucy, Saturday, 15 September 2007 03:05 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm excited about 87 degrees because I just got a white summer skirt on sale and now I won't have to wait a year to wear it.

horseshoe, Saturday, 15 September 2007 05:23 (sixteen years ago) link

Jeff--

1. I have not seen any commercials. For c35 or otherwise.

2. Tim 0'sh3a asked about you repeatedly tonight. He not only hoped you would be out, but seemed to expect your presence.

Jesse, Saturday, 15 September 2007 07:30 (sixteen years ago) link

I want to go see Diamanda.

Were she here to comment on the day's events, she would likely be heard to say:

what time is it?

DEATH.

what!
what time is it?

DEATH.

Jesse, Saturday, 15 September 2007 07:33 (sixteen years ago) link

I want to go see her, but I'm afraid I'll be disappointed b/c she won't be doing a Plague Mass for Homos With AIDS.

Jesse, Saturday, 15 September 2007 07:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh homo.

I am about 10 minutes away from wiping the drive on my Mac and reinstalling my operating system! How I got here is a long story. Let's just say that I fucked up my computer, and thank the gods of extra hard drives that I can back everything up and start over.

On the bright side -- I have installed and ripped out a lot of programs on this thing since I got it, and I look forward to having the inevitable remnants of that finally cleared out. Like it never happened. :)

kenan, Saturday, 15 September 2007 11:18 (sixteen years ago) link

I have switched to my PC. My Mac is making louder noise than I have ever heard it make. Clicks and whirrs. This must be the birthing pangs of an OS. I wish I could tape it.

kenan, Saturday, 15 September 2007 11:32 (sixteen years ago) link

I wish my Mac screen would stop telling me so precisely what it is doing. I look over every minute or so, and it says something like, "Installing German." I don't speak German, but this is not optional.

Oh great, now it's "Installing Norwegian." I am not kidding.

kenan, Saturday, 15 September 2007 11:44 (sixteen years ago) link

Ok now it's installing GarageBand, and I want it to finish so I can play again!

Jodie Foster movie, not so good. Good actors, shot in high-def, but not very satisfying.

Eazy, Saturday, 15 September 2007 12:32 (sixteen years ago) link

Scene pre-installed in "Screenwriter 2.0" software:

*If the main character is in the rear of a bodega, then: a) the rest of the store will be empty and b) someone will enter and hold up the cashier.

Eazy, Saturday, 15 September 2007 12:36 (sixteen years ago) link

That's just the thing with Jodie Foster, though... good actor? To be taken seriously? Still? Really?

I can't believe her anymore.

kenan, Saturday, 15 September 2007 12:39 (sixteen years ago) link

My playground building is running into snags and taking forever. If this happens again, I will resort to my usual "scratched DVD" remedy and wash the disc with soap and water.

kenan, Saturday, 15 September 2007 12:41 (sixteen years ago) link

It keeps installing "iWork '06 Trial," which I don't want and it has to download. You can tell it's not reading from the disc anymore... everything gets really quiet. And slow. And useless. And not optional.

kenan, Saturday, 15 September 2007 12:43 (sixteen years ago) link

How so, K., re Jodie? She acts poorly to you or you're distracted by the context of her past performances/other stuff?

Oh, and Plastic Bertrand: I had a French teacher play some of his songs in class, and I used to have a record of his called L'Album. In case they're out on the Internet somewhere, the songs "Stop Ou Encore" and "Rock and Roll Je Te Hais" are the keepers. Worst nasal voice ever, but "Stop Ou Encore" is kind of like "Rappers Delight".

Eazy, Saturday, 15 September 2007 12:45 (sixteen years ago) link

No, she's not a poor actress, but I just can't stomach her anymore. Make of it what you will.

I will pass on him, but thanks. :)

kenan, Saturday, 15 September 2007 13:40 (sixteen years ago) link

Ok I had to call tech support. Still installing. His suspicion was my own: I had not fully wiped the drive. So he talked me through that. Cross fingers for me, ok?

kenan, Saturday, 15 September 2007 13:44 (sixteen years ago) link

Sorry I didn't see you guys at the show last night. I got there at the end of the first band, and I was like "I should get a beer." So I got a beer but as soon as I drank about half of it I got really tired and woozy. This, combined with the heat, smoke, and the fact that the show was crowded (sold out) combined to make me feel really claustrophobic. I just wanted to sit down but there was nowhere to sit. Then the second band, Endless Boogie, played, and they were AWFUL, basically just guitar solos over blues chords. Reminded me of Blueshammer from Ghost World. All these hipster dudes who would never listen to Stevie Ray Vaughan nodding along like it was righteous. I wanted to leave but made myself stick around for the first couple of Circle songs. They sounded pretty good but at that point I just didn't want to be there anymore so I went home.

n/a, Saturday, 15 September 2007 13:59 (sixteen years ago) link

so when are you coming back from austin? I can pick you up at the airport.

kenan, Saturday, 15 September 2007 14:04 (sixteen years ago) link

Then the second band, Endless Boogie, played, and they were AWFUL, basically just guitar solos over blues chords.

When you listed the lineup for the show I saw that band name and that is exactly what I pictured them being -- with Mesa Boogie amps.

The DJ thing was... I dunno, kind of lame. The music wasn't awful, but I am not really into dance music so I don't know. The problem was the location. Again, not awful, but just not the kind of place where you'd expect people to be dancing. It was strange.

Jesse, tell Tim I'm dead.

Jeff, Saturday, 15 September 2007 16:05 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh god, Sample just puked, then Ed ate it, then Ed just puked.
