Thought Dublin were done after that slump at the start of the second half - we are a strange team, we looked beaten but then had an absolutely magical five minutes. Then we took the foot off the gas again. I'm not sure that mixture of caution and wild abandon is a way to win the All Ireland, it's not blended right at the moment. The passing at the end was terrifying, but the way they used to to score the third goal justified it completely.
Was in Croker for the first time in 20 years yesterday, I worked on every match day from 1996 to 2007 then moved to London. The quality on show for a 20 euro terrace ticket is unreal. The first half in particular was just brilliant.

yeah I'm over the raging turmoil of watching it in real time and the better team with the bigger squad won a very good semifinal
hard for the rest of the country to pick a team to support in the final imo....

"The mayo player everyone is raving about is the redeveloped aidan o'shea, always a fielder of note but physically reconditioned over the summer to a cross between longcat and a sherman tank. His fetching of the high ball above a forest of thuggery is rivalled as a sight this year only by his can't-fail method of seeking out opposition defenders to run over on his maraudings."
Haven't seen it yet but he's been featured in a sport-swapping programme called "toughest trade" with NFL and I predict all ilx will bow down

Dublin fondness of cheap shot tackles hasn't hurt them in a few years but won't help them today- don't ask me why today and never before

Great game. Kerry playing like a gaa team that has finally figured out how easy this game could be with use of space and simple passing

What a game. I was hoping it would go to a replay. Mayo are going to get slaughtered :p

kevin mc was unreal. that shoulder is up there with my favourite sports moments. juddering hit.
brilliant game - geaney is one of the best players to watch in the country. all that said, dublin doled out two goals - without that they would have won easily.

Wish I was but I'm in London. Think Mayo's build-up this year has a been a lot better, off the pitch I mean. It's a failure if Dublin lose though.

This will be merciless I fear. I can see no way it can even be close. Not sure I'd watch it if I hadn't lads from home over.

Mayo were lucky to beat Tipp in the semi final tbh
― Neptune Bingo (Michael B), Sunday, 18 September 2016 13:54 (seven years ago) link
I honestly think it'll be close, Mayo will be up for it and they were very close to beating Dublin last year. The rest of the season doesn't matter. We are a machine of sorts but we do let teams into games.

Lads it's a slow study that will get excited about this. We're precisely where we were this morning, seventy minutes from either a humiliating or maddening loss in a croker final.
Mayo, God help us.

Perennial sleeping giants and serial losing finalists Mayo take on Dublin tomorrow, 3.30pm. Beg, borrow or steal a stream, marvel at the brawn and desire of the amateurs on the park, ask yr friendly GAA posters what the hell it takes for a foul to be called, why hands are allowed and how knowing when to take yr point is a key cornerstone of malevolent irish rural psyche.
Enjoy the match. Boo the Dubs. Mayo, god help us.

I was right, that said we threw that away. 7 minutes injury time was outrageous, Connolly sideline kick droppable offence, heinous, awful.
Worst Dublin performance in years, gotta feel Mayo threw that away tho.

― Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Sunday, 18 September 2016 18:15 (seven years ago) link

Yeah, my overall feeling, particularly in the weird moments after your first spell second half, is that the game was begging to be won, and some terrible attempts happened.
