I have to say looks better than most of what I was served as a kid, I'd be happy to choke down a few green beans for that spread.

that's a corny meme but as a parent who has tried things otherwise I 100% endorse its contents
― five six and (man alive), Saturday, 15 August 2015 02:11 (eight years ago) link
corny macro I mean
Trying to make separate food that the kid "likes" is a hole with no bottom
I mean, you know, to a point. We do try to some extent to eat things that K likes to begin with. Just gave up on having multiple options or making separate food.
― five six and (man alive), Saturday, 15 August 2015 02:12 (eight years ago) link
I can't help but think there is some middle ground between never offering your child anything but the foods they like best, whether it is as a wholly separate meal made just for them or everyone at the table eating nothing but 100% kid-approved food, and telling your child "I don't care what you like; eat whatever I put on your plate or else go fuck yourself".

heeee I have some friends who definitely have a #brand (and sizable social media followings) who do that all the time. Since I knew most of them as physical beings before I knew their social media persona it doesn't bother me too much but I do rmde at it a little bit.

I have friends with children around 4-5 years old who will tag any social media pic of their child like #kidpocalypse or something and i just can't even. Also the people who do this with their dogs.

i have a friend who does "me & my girl" hastags with his wife and does image macros using the same thing and 9000000 other hashtags and he is the worst of all humans
a cowoker has a hashtag "like (nickname) eats" for the bajillion food pics he posts also the worst

When people do this for weddings, gaaahhhhhhhhhhh!
I have a friend who, every time she posts a picture of her daughter, the hashtag is "#loveher." Her son's hashtags are "#babylove" or "#babycrush" and I just wanna vomit and die.

― Nhex, Tuesday, 18 August 2015 18:58 (eight years ago) link
one of my husband's relatives friended me on facebook after our wedding and everything she posts is illegible to me because of the hashtags. that are sometimes randomly in all caps. she is also very conventionally beautiful and a burgeoning media personality, i believe, so maybe these are legit hashtags? like she's just speaking the language of fame? i would never hide her posts; they are mesmerizing and incomprehensible.

I have a running series of facebook posts that are kind of more like tweets that I tag with #totaldadmoment, and they are definitely supposed to be all about ironic dadness, but I do sometimes wonder if I'm too close to the thing I'm ironizing.

not that i would do it but i could kinda understand a hashtag for a wedding in that it would give you an easy way to find pics and posts about a wedding maybe? on twitter at least, i don't think hashtags actually do anything on facebook.
― balls, Tuesday, 18 August 2015 20:32 (eight years ago) link
They work on FB. I could also see useful for a wedding if you have many people talking photos, easy for them to be compiled if hashbrowned properly.
― Jeff, Tuesday, 18 August 2015 20:37 (eight years ago) link
kinda wonder if hashtags are becoming or are already a marker of being an old person, like facebook or knowing/caring who jon stewart was or using 'lol' instead of an emoji. twitter maybe bridges that gulf, idk. the kids seem to have all moved on to vine, yikyak, kik. which is fine for facebook, their hope was 'become uncool but omnipresent default asap'.

like 30 seconds after hashtags were invented ppl started using them in a jocular way that fast overtook their alleged primary purpose of placing tweets in searchable categories and telling brands your story, talking about "made-up" or "ironic" hashtags as something distinct from like pretty much all hashtags is basic af

yeah i'm not sure if they've moved on (they all have facebook but it's not their primary mode of social media as much as another place their instagram posts end up) or if they're just on everything

like 30 seconds after hashtags were invented ppl started using them in a jocular way that fast overtook their alleged primary purpose
never joined twitter & had not visited when i started to encounter hashtags in discoursepicked up meaning of meta-hashtag before learning (supposed) original meaning/purpose of hashtagso hashtags have always already been meta for me
that doesn’t make (most uses of) hashtag trope any less annoying, thoughlike as an obv overt sign(al), shortcut to meaning/speech-act (e.g. automatic irony)# is like elbow to the ribs

Some friends have a name portmonteau hashtag to talk about their wedding on social media.
I almost decided to skip it right there.
― Kiarostami bag (milo z), Tuesday, 18 August 2015 21:40 (eight years ago) link
even when clever joke, something about individual speech-acts taking form of mass category/corporate brand is inherently off-putting or depressing to me
like putting trademark symbol after one's utterances
― drash, Tuesday, 18 August 2015 21:51 (eight years ago) link
I got a little handwringy about activism hashtags for a bit but eventually decided their usefulness and necessity in today's world probably outweighs the problems they raise.
― five six and (man alive), Tuesday, 18 August 2015 21:56 (eight years ago) link
^this is v truebut, even as i recognize that, must admit i still feel something like gut discomfort/dislike/distrust re hashtag formas rhetorical trope & shorthand in political discourse
― drash, Tuesday, 18 August 2015 22:14 (eight years ago) link
in some cases they seem/feel less like speech or even slogan/banner& more just like shibboleth
oh well i'm outmoded outlier who doesn't even use social mediaso my feelings re hashtags hardly relevant
