Well the tracklist put forth on this site doesn't mention any "Anterior." Note the number of 9s that appear in the song names.

I'm afraid its nowt to do with me! Unless R's been up to shit I dont know about.
― Trayce, Friday, 14 December 2007 06:28 (sixteen years ago) link
This Anterior track (which is quite long, and I wouldnt ezpect it to be so long with the amount of tracks supposed to be on the album) seems "chinzy" in the sense that it is lacking all the modulation expected from the sounds I'm hearing. But compared to Vi Scose Poise of confield, maybe it isn't lacking as much as I think. Overall, it sounds like IDM my friend makes so I don't think it's real. And it doesn't have any epic quality to it.
― CaptainLorax, Friday, 14 December 2007 08:33 (sixteen years ago) link
The first half of "quaristice" sounds related to either "square" or "four", and 9 is a square number. Or, it's a double album, 9 is twice 4.5, and 4.5 is (the midpoint of) the interstice between four (and five). Or or, I'm making complete rubbish up. Yeah, that last one.
(Why have none of my IDM nerd internet pals who've been so excited about the last few while I've been going "eh" said anything about this? Are ae finally over even among the DSP-spotting community?)

Not. Her orgasmic presenting style is way too annoying.

Remember that show from The Wire in which three tracks were played?
It's gone now but the internets don't forget.
The promo copies are watermarked hence traceable to the source, so i wouldn't expect leaks anytime soon.

^ Thanks for the link.
I'm a little disappointed, though, at least upon first listen. Only the final track really grabbed me. All three seemed drenched in reverb, which normally I don't mind, and certainly isn't foreign to Autechre's music, but seemed out of place here. I guess those who were put off by their algorithm-centric compositions from the past decade or so might like this, as it's more stripped down and less wacked out. The problem is that they didn't really replace that space with anything compelling.

slightly off topic, but does anyone have that internet dj mix autechre did a few years ago? heard a bit of it at the time and remember it being incredible.
― Crackle Box, Monday, 28 January 2008 00:01 (sixteen years ago) link
hmm, google reveals they did lots of mixes a couple of years ago, the one i heard had miuzi weighs a ton on it.
google gave me this tracklist of some more of their mixes... want!

Is that the 7.5 hour thing? I've got it. Could ysi(although not right now) - if any of those sites allow >300meg files. Maybe someone else has a link.
Hmm I'm sure I remember writing a post just like this a year or so ago.

That was my first reaction as well … though to give them a break, I usually have to hear what they do with a very high bitrate to really get all the sonic details, and it also takes me a year to 'get' what they're doing – I didn't appreciate Untilted until recently.
This kind of judgment on first listening to lowbitrate samples is what the group itself is anxious to avoid I'd imagine.

True. When I was listening to it I kept daydreaming about the DJ saying "Whoops, somehow I was sitting on the reverb button! This is what the songs really sound like, sorry!", and then playing them again. I'll still give it a fair shot when it comes out. I probably need to revisit Untilted. I only gave it about a month before I gave up.

i'm really liking those tracks in the Wire stream, the reverb stuff sounds great on them, kind of dubby. the stream made me more excited about the album.

Limited edition double CD eh? Sold! (For £30! And to think I laughed at those Radiohead fans shelling out £40 for the box set.)

I thought about paying for the download - I want to hear it before the tour - but I don't feel like paying twice! Daresay it'll find its way onto the net somewhere.

... but the mp3 version contains track-by-track artwork by the Designers Republic!
er, like this one for track 10. Use your imagination for the other 19 tracks: vary the size and location of the small square and the colors (blue, white or black).

and "chenc9" could be the tuss.
― jermainetwo, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 16:35 (sixteen years ago) link
It's weird - it's like they're taking a step back (reintroduction of apparent simplicity and melody) and one forward (order in the chaos they'd built up until now) at the same time - if that makes any sense. Think I'm going to like this, but then I like pretty much everything they've done.
― StanM, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 16:45 (sixteen years ago) link
Here I was ready to write them off. Based on the Beeb and Wire exclusives, I'm excited that they've finally ditched the super-compressed Draft sound.

the last three autechre albums have taken ages to sink in for me, but that's not necessarily a bad thing and once i lived with them long enough they were/are very rewarding listens especially untilted. the first listen to this reminded me of parts of chiastic slide a bit.
― tricky, Saturday, 2 February 2008 21:38 (sixteen years ago) link
They essentially slag off the limited edition release in their Clash interview http://www.clashmusic.com/feature/autechre-quaristice;
It makes no odds to me. Actually, it does; I’d prefer (people) to download it than buy it physically. It fits our agenda much better that way. Our plan has never been to produce CDs - it’s always been about making music. If there’s a way of charging for it and getting the content to people, then we’ll adopt whichever is the most transparent. The actual product is the FLAC file – but I don’t object to those who want to own something that they can hold”
― Kiff, Sunday, 10 February 2008 19:22 (sixteen years ago) link
i don't see how they're addressing the ltd 2cd release, just the usual physical format vs. digital file debate...
