Top 15 tomorrow and will close this out.

Bee OK, Saturday, 1 August 2015 04:37 (eight years ago) link

4 of my top 10 have already placed, I really cannot imagine how this poll will turn out. I imagine most of Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga will place, but that still leaves at least five or six songs.

Tom Violence, Saturday, 1 August 2015 05:43 (eight years ago) link

Not much from Kill the Moonlight has placed so far but I'm expecting a few more to show in the top 15.

Deceptively simple, Sister Jack. Sounds like a throwaway three chord number but there's twelve (count 'em!) chords in the verse and that neat switch to 5/4 at the end.

ledge, Saturday, 1 August 2015 11:08 (eight years ago) link

stuff from my list** that I'm starting to think won't show up: "The Delicate Place", "No You're Not", "Don't You Evah", "Take the Fifth"
stuff from my list that I'm starting to think will show up way too high: "I Summon You", "Everything Hits At Once"
stuff from my list that I honestly don't know whether or not to expect to see here: "Goodnight Laura", "Finer Feelings", "Don't Let It Get You Down"

**unsubmitted & unranked

oh yeah and: stuff I understand the appeal of but am just not into: SISTER JACK, SISTER JACK, SISTER JACK, SISTER JACK, SISTER JACK

I had Take The Fifth in my too 10, but Girls Can Tell isn't having the strongest showing overall.

campreverb, Saturday, 1 August 2015 11:36 (eight years ago) link

I have $20 on "The Way We Get By" taking the whole thing, all proceeds going towards my next sack

i don't think it's possible for everything hits to be too high, not my #1 but spoon classic canon as it gets. one of maybe half a dozen songs that won't make me mad at 1

slow here but just now realizing that sneaks is done already

Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 1 August 2015 12:02 (eight years ago) link

Spoon did "Sister Jack" better as "The Underdog," but I'm not fond of either.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 1 August 2015 12:12 (eight years ago) link

I'll be v v surprised and disappointed if Finer Feelings isn't in the top 5.

nate woolls, Saturday, 1 August 2015 12:50 (eight years ago) link

Since "Anything You Want" has placed higher than "The Fitted Shirt," and it looks like all my very favourites are going to place, my ballot would have been a negligible contribution anyhow. Unless a #1 vote for "Everything Hits" would have nudged it into top spot. In which case I'll never forgive myself.

Will be very surprised if "Don't You Evah" fails to show up.

everything is said about "Written In Reverse" is actually about "The Mystery Zone". The song on the CD is 4:59 and the vinyl version is actually 5:50.

Bee OK, Saturday, 1 August 2015 18:18 (eight years ago) link

It made my ballot, just outside of the top ten.

austinato (Austin), Saturday, 1 August 2015 18:28 (eight years ago) link

Bee OK, Saturday, 1 August 2015 18:53 (eight years ago) link

ha, Youtube is wrong with the time again this time with The Natural History version as it's only around 3:40 or so.

first time i have heard the original, it's nice. doesn't have the same spunk.

Bee OK, Saturday, 1 August 2015 18:55 (eight years ago) link

The main guitar part on Mystery Zone is so hypnotic, that little bit of delay on every second strum of the chord (the downstroke? Not completely sure).

Don't You Evah was my #3, the original is a cool song but Spoon's version adds so much.

Gavin, Leeds, Saturday, 1 August 2015 19:00 (eight years ago) link

this was also on my ballot.

naaahh, there's not even an electric guitar in the underdog!

Spottie, Saturday, 1 August 2015 19:38 (eight years ago) link

Mystery Zone has the easiest baseline to play ever. kinda hypnotic.

Spottie, Saturday, 1 August 2015 19:39 (eight years ago) link

Summon You is really good. Such great vocals/phrasing on it. Another easy one to play on guitar too :)

Spottie, Saturday, 1 August 2015 19:50 (eight years ago) link

I'll have to try that. Sister Jack is pretty easy and v satisfying. Well I guess I would say that, since I like it.

austinato (Austin), Saturday, 1 August 2015 20:10 (eight years ago) link

don't you evah and don't make me a target were the only songs i voted for off gaaaaa, curious if anything is yet to place

Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 1 August 2015 20:18 (eight years ago) link

I think I liked the original version of "Don't You Ever" better than Spoon's, but I can't place quite why. I think it takes itself more seriously?

The Mystery Zone was my #4, love that song to bits. It really is hypnotic and, while I don't usually listen to Spoon lyrics, I like the lyrical themes of this one.

xpost nothing I voted for from Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga has placed yet. One I expect to do extremely well, the other two I'm worried fell below 40. Half of my top 10 was in the lower 15, so who knows?

nate woolls, Saturday, 1 August 2015 20:54 (eight years ago) link

based on the albums and what we've got so far, i don't think this is a quincy punk episode kinda room
