telephono would totally be one of those "underrated post-grunge bands you can find for $2" CDs if the group had broken up after Sneaks. And I'm just surprised if everyone really prefers every disc of their more finger-snappy shooby-doo shit to their most pixies-meets-wire album
― da croupier, Friday, 31 July 2015 16:52 (eight years ago) link
Telephono sounds like a Pixies tribute band attempting original material.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 31 July 2015 16:58 (eight years ago) link
it definitely doesn't help that the first song (while great imo) is the most obv pixies homage
― da croupier, Friday, 31 July 2015 17:00 (eight years ago) link
did anyone ever come up with tapes of requiem performing

most spoon albums have nonessential sequences, on telephono they're also derivative

Love this one, but was a late scratch from my ballot. I scratched it in favor of another Transference song that I'm worried won't make it.

that Eleanor cover is great, did not know that she went out with Britt.

How did that have 3 # 1 votes but still Finnish so low?!
― AKA Thermo Thinwall (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 31 July 2015 18:22 (eight years ago) link
Stay Don't Go and Trouble both too low, IMO. Both are top-10 for me.
― hardcore dilettante, Friday, 31 July 2015 18:22 (eight years ago) link
no right to bitch because I didn't vote, but that's not gonna stop me.
― hardcore dilettante, Friday, 31 July 2015 18:23 (eight years ago) link
and it shouldn't. i voted for both and it is insane that it did get three number ones but still only managed 29.
― Bee OK, Friday, 31 July 2015 18:25 (eight years ago) link
I love the unusual (for Spoon) backing vox immoderately.

― call all destroyer, Friday, 31 July 2015 18:36 (eight years ago) link
Me and the Bean, top ten for me. I love how they would cover little-known songs by Austin scene friends.

again thanks C. Grisso/McCain for pointing out the wrong release date for A Series of Sneaks. thanks to "mod" all those mistakes have been updated.

at first i did not think this song would make it, as it was not in the first draft i sent to Thermo Thinwall. what happened is some people send in ballots with just "Fitted Shirt" so when i found those songs it was of course this song will be in the Top 40.
― Bee OK, Friday, 31 July 2015 18:59 (eight years ago) link
I had no idea Me and the Bean was a cover! Amazing song though, was in my top ten.

"The Fitted Shirt" makes more sense as concept in the skinny jeans era.

Fitted Shirt maybe their goofiest lyric in a career not lacking in goofy lyrics.

sort of cool that this is the last new song before we did this poll. it might not be their last song that they recorded but is the last song on their newest album.
