my number one, when i was re-listening to Spoon for this poll this was the one that made me happiest.

Bee OK, Thursday, 30 July 2015 22:09 (eight years ago) link

My #1. It's the best synthesis of their funk experiments, keyboard filigrees, dub arrangements, and punkish stuff.

Bee OK, Thursday, 30 July 2015 22:29 (eight years ago) link

i could barely pull it together for a 20-track ballot due to irl craziness but fwiw if I'd managed an album ballot both Girls Can Tell and Gimme Fiction would have placed higher. not that i'm complaining about the results of record. this is great!

resulting post (rogermexico.), Thursday, 30 July 2015 22:35 (eight years ago) link

Now I REALLY wish I voted Girls Can Tell (orig. my number 4) over GA5 (orig. my number 3). Cause KTM (my #2, just slightly below Sneaks) is leaps and bounds better than GA5.

Voted for #40, one of the few Spoon songs from the first four albums that I remembered before listening to them again. I heard all of these in about 2002 and then lost the files a few years later, so I probably hadn't listened to those albums in ten years.

that is all Thermo Thinwall.

wow. shocked to see i'm one of two Girls Can Tell #1s...though i guess that makes me feel like my taste in spoon is less cliche. :3

Bee OK, Friday, 31 July 2015 00:31 (eight years ago) link

Rhthm & Soul def not one of my favorites. Voted for Execution cos I love the simplicity of that riff - middle 8 handclap - riff - whistle section

Spottie, Friday, 31 July 2015 00:32 (eight years ago) link

They Never Got You: Great tune that just didn't find a place on my ballot. Gimme Fiction has a great insistent pulse through most of its tracks, it seems like, moreso than Kill the Moonlight.

Tom Violence, Friday, 31 July 2015 00:35 (eight years ago) link

This made my ballot, and "They Want My Soul" is a good sequel.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 31 July 2015 00:36 (eight years ago) link

Voted for these last two, "Metal Dekektor" my #5 and the highlight of the early stuff for me

bunny slopes, Friday, 31 July 2015 00:40 (eight years ago) link

blew my wad already, this was my number one. i just love the ending with the buildup.

Bee OK, Friday, 31 July 2015 00:46 (eight years ago) link

ha i don't think this woulda made my top 60!

Spottie, Friday, 31 July 2015 00:48 (eight years ago) link

this song is illustrative of the issues with the back half of gimme fiction--just a little too repetitive

call all destroyer, Friday, 31 July 2015 00:48 (eight years ago) link

yup

Spottie, Friday, 31 July 2015 00:49 (eight years ago) link

lol

"They Never Got You"

carly bae jepsen (monotony), Friday, 31 July 2015 01:04 (eight years ago) link

three years pass...

Found Transference LP second hand and I'm starting to think it's song qua song my favourite album.

I need to give the last two albums a bit more listening time. I love Spoon

Urbandn hope all ye who enter here (dog latin), Thursday, 2 December 2021 14:58 (two years ago) link

I like Alfred's opening line "Why I like these Austinites mystifies me". I agree. They could so easily be the US equivalent of the Stereophonics if they weren't so damn good at writing great songs and knowing just how far to push the boat out with experimentation so it seems like they're not experimenting.

Urbandn hope all ye who enter here (dog latin), Thursday, 2 December 2021 15:00 (two years ago) link

Transference seems to be where the hard core Spoon fans seems to gravitate too, it has some killer hooks. They Want My Soul is even better for me as it has "Rainy Taxi" and arguably their best overall song "Inside Out" and also "New York Kiss," what an album. Hot Thoughts is their New Order album and i also love it. it is/was an interesting direction that i wish they continued down but it seems they are going back to rocking out...

this poll was so much fun!

Bee OK, Saturday, 4 December 2021 00:23 (two years ago) link

yeah this was great, enjoying just skimming back through some of it :)

call all destroyer, Saturday, 4 December 2021 01:52 (two years ago) link

Transference is far and away my favorite.

katebishopfan616 (morrisp), Saturday, 4 December 2021 02:00 (two years ago) link

Glad I'm not the only one. That said, while they're not a band I listen to all the time, every album easily has 3-4 top tier songs

Urbandn hope all ye who enter here (dog latin), Saturday, 4 December 2021 10:21 (two years ago) link

Hot Thoughts has become my most played Spoon album, thanks to "I Ain't the One" and especially "WhisperI’lllistentohearit." He sounds sexy as fuck on the latter.
