I saw a news headline today about Joe Jackson suffering a stroke and was worried for a bit.

I don't get it...? I searched Discogs and Allmusic for "Cam Newton", and all I got was this guy, so who's the other one?

Tuomas, Monday, 20 June 2016 22:37 (seven years ago) link

tuomas sweetie usually the wrong dude is in a different field of work

riverine (map), Monday, 20 June 2016 22:39 (seven years ago) link

But this is an ILM thread that's specifically about musicians with the same name. IIRC there's some ILE thread for namesakes in general.

Tuomas, Monday, 20 June 2016 22:42 (seven years ago) link

this game sucks

riverine (map), Monday, 20 June 2016 22:47 (seven years ago) link

Upthread, there are baseball players, pool players, authors, and in once case, a hospital. (that last one was mine.)

pplains, Monday, 20 June 2016 23:35 (seven years ago) link

but here: http://bfy.tw/6Mrx

pplains, Monday, 20 June 2016 23:36 (seven years ago) link

Yeah, I noticed that others had misused this thread too, but that doesn't change the fact that its original agenda is "musicians with the same name". Generic namesakes of any field of interest aren't really as unique or funny.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 21 June 2016 11:14 (seven years ago) link

I don't object to the use of a namesake from another field as much as I do to the fact that the other Cam Newton is such a marginal figure, almost unknown outside the US.

John Lennon Airport.

Jak Airport.

Only one of these is an actual airport. The other is in a different endeavour.

Mark G, Tuesday, 21 June 2016 11:25 (seven years ago) link

but that doesn't change the fact that its original agenda is "musicians with the same name".

Where is this pointed out previously?

I get we're on ILM, but I honestly took the spirit of this thread as at least one person needed to be a musician.

pplains, Tuesday, 21 June 2016 13:46 (seven years ago) link

it's ok you don't need to defend the thread and its lack of an instruction manual to pedantic euro farts

riverine (map), Tuesday, 21 June 2016 14:03 (seven years ago) link

otoh maybe we can get hurting to weigh in on this controversial revive

riverine (map), Tuesday, 21 June 2016 14:05 (seven years ago) link

DUDE would imply human male but who knows with those millenials nowadays and their beloved, gifable pets

riverine (map), Tuesday, 21 June 2016 14:16 (seven years ago) link

Listen, no need for name-calling.

I get that not everyone doesn't immediately know who Cam Newton is. It's hard to believe, I know, being we're talking about a guy who won the Heisman Award and a national championship as well as being picked first in the NFL draft. I mean, I'd like to see "Prince" up there run the 40 in 4.59 secs, but hey. This is ILM, not some weird board like ILAFL or De Subjectivision.

pplains, Tuesday, 21 June 2016 14:33 (seven years ago) link

Oh, *that* Cam Newton.

sorry to derail this fine thread. here's a good one to get us back on track:

Engelbert Humberdinck! but it's a different one than the other one!

andrew m., Tuesday, 21 June 2016 15:07 (seven years ago) link

it's appropriate that it's the blue question mark of death. whichever Engelbert is your favorite you can imagine it's the other one.
