I suspect the back row kid was merely being smart. I've never come across a school pop quiz where the answer should be provided with a picture, so most likely he intended the front row kid to write the answer in words based on what sees in the pic. But if the back row kid had actually written the correct answer to question 5 in words, and the teacher had noticed him passing the note and confiscated it, the front row kid would've been accused of cheating, and the back row kid would've be considered his accomplice. However, if the teacher confiscates the penis illustration, all she could blame them for is circulating a dirty picture, which surely is a lesser misdemeanor in the school books than cheating. The front row kid can only blame himself for not realizing the back row kid's clever stratagem.

Agreed, though most of the recent ones haven't been that good anymore. I think the last truly inspired strip was "Dreamcatcher". Thankfully his visual chops still kinda make up for the quality drop in gags.
