I TOLD you! It's boring! I'm trying not to fall asleep!

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 14:21 (twenty years ago) link

Cprek is way into wifi, I think it has something to do with this wardriving bidness he enjoys, but I just don't understand.

I may have just accepted a singing job in a funk band. Lawd have mercy.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 14:28 (twenty years ago) link

*whispered [at regular volumes though {cuz I have no control over the volume of my voice right now}]*(this Nick has had some coffee too)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 14:29 (twenty years ago) link

ILE is so tense right now we could probably all do with a coffee break.

I feel like shit, cause a great deal of the tension was provoked by me. How many ways are there to say sorry?

I hate feeling like an asshole for trying to give someone the benefit of the doubt. Especially when you're proved wrong in the end.

Two more days of work, and then it's nothing but rest and relaxation for the next two weeks. Boy, rest and relaxation will be good.

Sarah McL, come back and post kitten pictures, PLEASE.

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:09 (twenty years ago) link

Oh shit Kate just reminded me of teh awesomeness: after today, I only work one more day in 2003, which is next Monday. Over this span of time I'm getting my Volvo fixed (finally!), and might possibly be acquiring some tickets for the New Years Eve Flaming Lips/White Stripes show in Chicago, and, y'know, going to that. That would be a good way to end this fucked up year.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:11 (twenty years ago) link

BONGO SOLO!

...

wait, fuck that,

XYLOPHONE SOLO!

El Santo Claus (Kingfish), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:12 (twenty years ago) link

Hooray for concert tickets! Hope you have a good time, Nickalicious!

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:17 (twenty years ago) link

HA! I had to vent a little with kitten pix because the mods thread was making me grumpy. And I don't WANT to be grumpy! I'm moving to Chicago and I'm all happy and shit.

Hey, I wanna go to that New Years show...

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:18 (twenty years ago) link

I don't wanna get my hopes up, I might not get the tickets. This would be my first time in Chicago also.

Sarah, dude! You and Nick are gonna be in Chicago by then huh? You guys should find tickets and go too! That would be sweet.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:20 (twenty years ago) link

Sorry, I was premature, then, NL, I mean "GOOD LUCK with those concert tickets!" (In my optimist mind, you'd already got them.)

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:21 (twenty years ago) link

Avoiding certain threads has helped me be totally confused by mentions of tensions on ilx. Oooh "mentions of tensions" that's going in the rhyme file!

ha ha yeah I'm pretty much considering them gotten, glass is half-full etc.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:22 (twenty years ago) link

I just wanna say...

I love reading iLX as most of you are incredibly intelligent and there are some great debates that go on around here. And as for the humour, well you guys are just too much. I often get strange looks from my colleagues as I burst into fits of laughter at my monitor.

I kiss you ILX, and I hope that those who are stressed can get rid of it all by partying hard offline at Christmas. Those who aren't, well party hard anyway.

I'm gonna be sat here in work for most of Christmas so I will be logging into ILX more often than usual, so please continue to keep me entertained with the usual banter. (but less arguements please)

(pretty please?)

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:40 (twenty years ago) link

Hi, Ste. I've just noticed some of your posts today. How long have you been on ILX?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:42 (twenty years ago) link

Hi Ste, good to have you on board. There used to be a guy in an Oxford band called Ste. Are you him?

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:43 (twenty years ago) link

Ste is just short for Steve, I think its rarely used like this but no I'm not the Ste from the band.

I've been here for about a year and a half now, I would guess.

My old username was Fuzzy but I grew to disklike it, but I never posted much anyhoo.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:47 (twenty years ago) link

Ah, yes. I remember Fuzzy.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:50 (twenty years ago) link

Just shoot me if I talk to anyone else on this board again, ever. I'm getting really sick of apologising to people. :-(

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 17:01 (twenty years ago) link

That Moderator thread, its totally ILX 'inverted' or something.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 17:08 (twenty years ago) link

My alarm didn't go off this morning, so I woke up around 8:15 (I'm supposed to be here at 8:30) and shot out of bed, took the quickest shower known to woman and zoomed into my clothes and out the door.

I haven't done laundry, so I'm sort of dressed up and everyone is asking me where I'm going. I'm getting a little embarrassed saying it's just because I'm a lazy slob, so I'm trying to think of something fabulous to tell them, but it's not really working.

"I'm um.. going to a premiere tonight, yeah... no wait, Tom Hanks' Christmas bash... yeah! Um, no, a get together at the Playboy Mansion, yeah.... OKAY NO, I JUST HAVEN'T DONE LAUNDRY YOU VULTURES! GO AWAY AND LEAVE ME TO MY SHAME!"

Luna do you have two different colored shoes on today?

Chris 'Knuckle Deep' V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 17:35 (twenty years ago) link

Luna has on three different colored shoes, the poor dear.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 17:40 (twenty years ago) link

Thankfully no, my shoes match (I double checked - I'm an asshole), but my underwear don't match. THE SHAME.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 17:42 (twenty years ago) link

Since when is your underwear supposed to match your shoes? Eep.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:07 (twenty years ago) link

The rules of fashion are simple and finite.

CREEPY!

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:35 (twenty years ago) link

Ok it's not really, I'm just really bored.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:36 (twenty years ago) link

Ha ha.

Do you ever post things and no one replies to them so you feel like you're talking to yourself?

My shoulders are all tense from ILX today and yet I'm still here. What is my problem? No wait, don't tell me. I can hardly take asides or one-offs/ I could definitely not handle someone telling me my problem directly.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:38 (twenty years ago) link

Sarah, you're wonderful.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:39 (twenty years ago) link

It's like I'm a ghost! Only everyone else can see me. So I'm a ghost unto myself.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:42 (twenty years ago) link

Which is no fun really - what good is being a ghost if you can't scare the crap out of people? Fuck that benevolent "I'm a good ghost, let me show you where your grandfather buried the family fortune" crap. If I were a ghost and I couldn't make someone crap their pants, I'd give it up completely.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:45 (twenty years ago) link

x post

Thanks, Luna.

And guess what, everyone? I like getting compliments and I don't think anyone here is fake nice to me. And guess what else? I AM CRAZY! I AM CRAZY from reading this crap today. I am full of happiness in my personal life and Christmas joy and all sorts of fluff and I want to come on here and be happy with other people.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:45 (twenty years ago) link

(damn it)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:46 (twenty years ago) link

Sarah, I've always been fake nice to you. Ever since Grade Seven, when you told me that you'd kiss me behind the band portable after school, and then when I got there, your brother gave me a wedgie in front of all the Grade Eights, thus making me an allowable target for all of their hijinks for the remainder of the term. I've never forgiven you for that. I swore on that day that I would get revenge by being as fake nice as possible to you for the next 15 years, and then when your guard is completely down...uh, I don't know.
That never really happened anyway.

I like you. You let me send you a fax once.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:50 (twenty years ago) link

Ha Ha. Yeah, I found in this huge stack of paperwork the other day when I was trying to reorganize the files. I picked it up and was thinking, 'WTF?!' and then I remembered it was from you and it made me smile again.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:52 (twenty years ago) link

And then I threw it away. (It will live on in my memory!)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:52 (twenty years ago) link

I don;'t get the fake nice thing, either... Why waste the time? If you don't like me, don't like me; if you do, well, so much the better.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:52 (twenty years ago) link

Sorry for sleepy folx. I too had much coffee today. Was an hour late to school but it was okay b/c the first testing period today was my off period. Which is also why I took the liberty of staying up so late.

But between the huge frappicino I had and my meds I'm all a-tremble.

Sorry, Sam. Maybe the criminals will learn something from the school papers or perhaps decide to go into teaching.

my friend across the hall suggested the criminals were doing me a favor and contributing to my overall good mental health by taking the students' work off my hands. ;)

I once had a kiddo tell me she lost her paper after someone broke into her mom's car. Now I buy such excuses.

Came in this morning and reminded the vice-principal of my friend at Fox news who'd love to do a story about the disrepair here. (cieling tiles falling out, broken windows going weeks without being fixed.) He promised to at least get the jagged pieces removed and told me I could hold class in the library if we got too cold.

Six hours later and the glass is still there. *sigh*

Oh and have good holidays to everyone who won't be around for while. (see even being the grinch i am, I can wish others well. must be the coffee ;) )

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 18:52 (twenty years ago) link

No one is in my office but me, I am listening to Otis Redding sing "The Happy Song" really loudly, I have no shoes on, and I have a very small bottle of rum in my desk.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 20:13 (twenty years ago) link

Oh no I couldn't get this wifi thing to work because they put a password on it sometiime this morning but I tricked it into letting me in so here I am yams!

I don't want to read teh moderator thread but I probably will.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 20:44 (twenty years ago) link

"yams"?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 20:45 (twenty years ago) link

That's an affectionate nickname for all y'all.

After sifting through the rubble of a few threads, all I can say is, ILXors be some major drama queens.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 20:56 (twenty years ago) link

Hehe :) Whatever people say about this thread, seems we're the only ones having a nice time at the moment

(like a red rag to a Jess?)

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 21:15 (twenty years ago) link

well this is the only thread I've read so far today. which ones should I avoid?

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 21:26 (twenty years ago) link

It sounds like all of them. I was posting on the christmas kitten thread, that seems perfectly supertwee and okay. I haven't looked at much else given what people are saying about the hostility/drama.

Though I'm morbidly curious. Somehow you always want to know what's going on and who hates who and who's having a tantrum. But doing the reading to find out is depressing.

I've gotten in the habit of telling my dad I love him. He may never respond to that and may think I'm an oversensitive idiot (hm, not entirely wrong there). But so the fuck what. It really did scare the shit out of me when, just for a few minutes, I thought something had gone wrong with his surgery (hospital misinformation).

I've been listening to an Elizabeth George book on tape. It's pretty good, I like what I've read of her mysteries. I have another suspense/mystery thing (an airport-novel type book) but the writing or the expression or something just seems too crude to me.

My mom had picked up a novel for me a few weeks ago that turned out being a really really bad romance novel, and it was just hilarious. The sex scenes were just priceless--they were trying to be all sexy but not too detailed. Implied sex in books is fine. Explicit sex is fine too (quite). But writing that attempts to be in between can be really comical sometimes. Bad writing can be really comical anyway, I suppose, especially when it's describing sex. I don't write all that well myself but I am nonetheless a snob.

I need to come up with library ideas. If anyone has suggestions for authors who write compelling stuff that is kind to those with a limited attention span but which is decently written so as not to inspire disgust... email me (hotmail username j_bdules) or whatever. Taste is a variable thing of course, but suggestions help.

I frequently have a hard time finding books I like anymore. I am a concentration-limited grump.

Anyway, hi all! NA, "yams" sounds cool.
