if you want more songs in line with the record you're digging, i recommend in keeping secrets of silent earth:3 and also the afterman

but yeah it's a very representative record, even though the last four tracks on good apollo i'm burning star iv from fear through the eyes of madness (christ) are the proggiest they ever get

Oh, sorry. Yeah, pretty much everything ^^ has said.
I think that Vol. 1 might have been their most popular album? It's pretty good, and he's totally right about In Keeping Secrets.
As far as the story, I think it's the end of that story arc with Claudio? It's either the end or close to the end. Year of the Black Rainbow is a sort of prequel and Afterman is Sirius Amory.

I think I just outed myself as a giant CoCa nerd.

lol right i think once you write a prequel to a prequel it's prob time to stop

ta people.

i'm still confused.

and people laff at my love of 70s prog !

so, in summary, i would be best buying more black veil brides albums.

(i really really like 'wretched and divine' )

mark e, Thursday, 9 July 2015 20:56 (eight years ago) link

one thing i really dislike about good apollo iv vol 1 is uh how misogynistic it is? and it is literally the only coheed record like that

ahh .. i need to listen more closely then.

or then again, perhaps not ..

mark e, Thursday, 9 July 2015 20:59 (eight years ago) link

never been one to listen to lyrics that closely (unless its jim foetus.. )

mark e, Thursday, 9 July 2015 20:59 (eight years ago) link

i mean i didn't even realize it until i revisited it last week

two years pass...

never has a band fluctuated in quality more between albums but i'm psyched they're getting back down to prog tacks

woah @ that song. Black Parade vibes with the guitar arrangement

wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Saturday, 18 August 2018 18:18 (five years ago) link

Simon otm. The guitar on the chorus is my favourite thing they've done in ages.

tangenttangent, Saturday, 18 August 2018 20:05 (five years ago) link

I'm trying to avoid hyperbole but I think "The Gutter" might be my new fave song of theirs, though I skipped the last couple releases

this is sounding like the record I always wanted them to make

i'm listening to it now and i think it might be!

princess of hell (BradNelson), Thursday, 4 October 2018 15:37 (five years ago) link

"toys" is incredible

princess of hell (BradNelson), Thursday, 4 October 2018 15:45 (five years ago) link

sigh, I want to love this but the ludicrous length + lack of variation are brutal to me, idk why I'm surprised cause it's their whole thing much of the time but it still bugs me. once I figure out a ten-track edit I'll probably love it.

wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Thursday, 4 October 2018 16:49 (five years ago) link

yeah the length really sucks

princess of hell (BradNelson), Friday, 5 October 2018 22:08 (five years ago) link

i mean the songs are all really good but this album doesn't breathe at all

princess of hell (BradNelson), Friday, 5 October 2018 22:08 (five years ago) link

"toys" is still the fucking best

princess of hell (BradNelson), Friday, 5 October 2018 22:10 (five years ago) link

this is basically a power metal album

this song rules so much

princess of hell (BradNelson), Saturday, 6 October 2018 00:18 (five years ago) link

Brad I'm gonna let you finish but this is emphatically not power metal

she carries a torch. two torches, actually (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Saturday, 6 October 2018 00:33 (five years ago) link

nb I am enjoying it though I like my C&C proggier

oh i just meant in the density of hooks and the unnecessary length! also, same

princess of hell (BradNelson), Saturday, 6 October 2018 00:41 (five years ago) link

should’ve made my re-coheedwagon joke instead

princess of hell (BradNelson), Saturday, 6 October 2018 01:22 (five years ago) link

a nice side effect of this record is it made me revisit no world for tomorrow which is way more awesome than i remembered it being especially this song

princess of hell (BradNelson), Tuesday, 9 October 2018 23:34 (five years ago) link

every time i hear "time consumer" i get impressed all over again that it is basically a mid-'90s emo song

this is probably the only band i love where i think the debut towers over everything else

Hearing from a friend at tonight's show that drummer passed out on stage. Ambulance called.

Hope he is ok.

Kinda wish the moral wasn't so "bitches, man" but otherwise I appreciate the spirit of this.

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 23 June 2022 17:35 (one year ago) link

all around shorter song lengths and more textural variety than vaxis i, i think for the better

"a disappearing act" is the kind of pop/disco/metal track i think i've only heard from devin townsend before

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 23 June 2022 17:49 (one year ago) link

i haven’t been able to stop listening to coheed this week. really strong discog, only one album i don’t really rate and it’s the antiprog/anticoncept one (color before the sun) and even then it has an amazing song called “island”

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 July 2022 10:19 (one year ago) link

i decided that “ten speed” is their very best song though. it even helps that it’s about a sentient bicycle demon

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 July 2022 11:04 (one year ago) link

This is much better than Vaxis I. I absolutely love the last three songs, especially the last one where they really lean into the prog theatricality.

a superficial sheeb of intelligence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 12 July 2022 20:58 (one year ago) link

i'm gonna have to spin this eventually. think I stopped at the album that wasn't conceptual, cos I didn't like it.

but I like the ridiculous bombastic stuff

The run of the last three tracks should do you just fine, for sure.

a superficial sheeb of intelligence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 12 July 2022 21:15 (one year ago) link

the album that wasn’t conceptual is their weakest easy, i wish it weren’t the case. vaxis i is bloated but also so packed with great songs it’s hard to complain. and vaxis ii corrects for the bloatedness
