the refereeing in this tournament has been fucking diabolical and the players deserve better

at the very least a video review system should have been implemented to help the referees

word. i don't know enough to really figure out the officiating deficiencies beyond like outrageous shit. do you have any particular examples?

this is the first time i've ever watched a full soccer game on tv and at a stadium.

the game is about players, not referees

the best female referees should be allowed into the men's game, the best male referees into the women's game. referee gender is almost completely irrelevant. referee ability unfortunately is and this tournament's referees have made a string of catastrophic errors

so no i didn't mean 'replace all the women refs they don't know the rules', i meant 'a nice mix of male and female with video assistance pls'

clearly wanting the players to be helped by good officiating is sexist tho

like, obviously it'd be great to have competent female officials everywhere and they will doubtless improve along with the players, but there is a need for the highest available standard of officiating at any major tournament, surely

ilx stopped working for me last night but yeah the US were p misshapen and not very good in the second half, Rapinoe did next to nothing. the Japan team wd be more likely to punish a repeat of that than the England one (this is all armchair punditry based on watching bits of this WC but we're taking that as a given right)
