I'm only half way through the new ep but

- i now have to watch this show on sat morning! when I watched it at night the cryptic dreaminess made me sleepy & i ended up missing half the show from napping lol

- this season is way more cryptic & dreamy than ever & i def miss the procedural aspect that at least anchored the show in a kind of 'reality,' even if it was corny & forced at times

- love how they blended some Monster of Florence mythology into last week's ep, and are slowly swirling together touches from the Hannibal & Hannibal Rising novels as well. It's very loose and hazy but I dig it

- 90's cd rom game otm, loool

People bitching about geographic and real life cultural (as opposed to arts and gastronomy cultural) inaccuracy this season should probably never go to Baltimore.

y? do people not like pedantry there?

Well that too, but I meant that they may simply find it surprisingly unlike Ottawa.

Three Word Username, Sunday, 21 June 2015 20:42 (eight years ago) link

Lol. The geography of season one was so weird. Hannibal can basically magically transport himself everywhere if he needs to murder someone.

Frederik B, Sunday, 21 June 2015 20:45 (eight years ago) link

maybe the had the motorcycle all along

it's a fair cop, i basically read those captions giving locations as AMERICA; MORE AMERICA; STILL AMERICA, so

Even in season 1, which indeed was more grounded and realistic than what has later happened, the show didn't strictly speaking make sense. It was always impressionistic. The only problem was when people tried to treat it as an actual whodunnit, and based their theories on things such as whether or not a certain solution was actually physically possible. Possibility never really had any bearing on what happened with the plot.

Man, I love this show. In a weird way, but it's just so so swaggeringly good.

Frederik B, Monday, 22 June 2015 01:12 (eight years ago) link

but they are so very different goddamn it thomp xp

and not different like "these people live 50 kilometers away from the prior location, they have a distinct culture and accent" way. there are thousands of kilometers crossed in the North American Hannibal episodes!

Upright Mammal (mh), Monday, 22 June 2015 01:15 (eight years ago) link

I never caught where Abbigail's psychiatric hospital was. The east coast, near the rest of the case, or the midwest, near where she was taken in? The former makes no sense in that she wouldn't be transferred so far away from home and the main characters traveling there on the regular would be odd. The latter makes no sense due to the parts where others seemed to drop in. About 1k km between.

Upright Mammal (mh), Monday, 22 June 2015 01:18 (eight years ago) link

i still don't understand why everyone wanted to figure out where hannibal was in season one instead of where will was but w/e

xxp excuse me?!?! we don't cross fuckin kilometers here bub

♛ LIL UNIT ♛ (thomp), Monday, 22 June 2015 02:00 (eight years ago) link

i mean basically i assumed they thought there was little point in showing hannibal eating airline food

♛ LIL UNIT ♛ (thomp), Monday, 22 June 2015 02:01 (eight years ago) link

one wonders in fact if the 'a little protein scramble ... to start the day' sequence came from them plotting out something that involved them being in transit for a long time

♛ LIL UNIT ♛ (thomp), Monday, 22 June 2015 02:02 (eight years ago) link

I can imagine Hannibal has killed the executive chef of an airline at some point

The first two seasons are on amazon, so amazon seems like the logical resurecter. I don't think I can handle if this ends without Hannibal being caught. I need to know he's not still out there, dammit!

Frederik B, Monday, 22 June 2015 21:20 (eight years ago) link

he's in your kitchen right now man

I seriously just got a bit freaked out...

this show needs to continue so i can keep reading the food designer's awesome blog!!

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 22 June 2015 21:26 (eight years ago) link

I should probably stop watching Bryan Fuller shows. They always end up being cancelled before their time.

Frederik B, Monday, 22 June 2015 21:26 (eight years ago) link

tbf this went the longest, and has the best chance at a 2nd life. im surprised dead like me & pushing daisies ever got to two, frankly. sometimes i still miss daisies.

definite parallels between Dany and Rachel Dolezal (slothroprhymes), Monday, 22 June 2015 21:30 (eight years ago) link

Dead Like Me went to two, but Fuller left much earlier. And Pushing Daisies only managed 22 episodes. And yeah, I miss that show. And Wonderfalls!

Frederik B, Monday, 22 June 2015 21:34 (eight years ago) link

never saw wonderfalls. daisies was so good/fully realized in its style that it surpassed all my usual defenses against twee things - much like hannibal has a lot of ppl watching extremely violent horror who don't watch horror

mockingbird lane was a disastrous experiment though, idk what ever possessed him to think that was a good idea

never really been into checking out this dude's other shows because I figured there was something about this one that gelled for me

what should I check out if I search out another one?

Upright Mammal (mh), Monday, 22 June 2015 21:43 (eight years ago) link

i hope they planned ahead and wrap up with a definitive answer on who the Chesapeake Ripper is before the end of the season :-(

got bent (mild cheezed off vibes) (s.clover), Monday, 22 June 2015 21:45 (eight years ago) link

xp pushing daisies would be my recommend, lotta ppl swear by dead like me though and they have similar vibes

definite parallels between Dany and Rachel Dolezal (slothroprhymes), Monday, 22 June 2015 21:46 (eight years ago) link

Pushing Daisies is so great, and surprisingly morbid as well. The death count is prob not as high as in Hannibal, but it's up there!

Frederik B, Monday, 22 June 2015 21:46 (eight years ago) link

Pushing Daisies is great but i can see it being overly sweet for some people. Wonderfalls was just great, though, really one of the strangest premises for a show ever done on a network, lotta unique stuff going on.

some dude, Monday, 22 June 2015 22:15 (eight years ago) link

Oh man yeah Pushing Daisies was like eating a pound of Sweet and Low. So saccharine. I hated it.

I watched about 10 episodes of Dead Like Me and then forgot it existed. Maybe I'll try it again although the dynamic between the main character and Mandy Patinkin was tiresome.

The fight scene + topless Mads = great episode!!

Also, is Hannibal eating a fig when Verger asks Bloom how she tastes? LOL

Felt like an almost perfunctory thing considering it was exactly what happened in the book/film. Good turn to have Jack Crawford immediately wallop him.

Hannibal's little grin when he admits he called Verger's hotline just for fun was bewitching
