i would guess that the board game h8rs have never played it & u know what i would hate board games too if the only ones i knew were monopoly and risk which are fucking terrible but settlers is 100% fun times

so has anyone been to the new brooklyn public house on dekalb - it is supposed to be a gastro pub which is apparently some horrible britishes terminology - are they into dork games i dont know

brooklyn public house's food was very basic and kinda gross. nothing gastro pub about it.

i have played a whole helluva lot of board games including yr precious girlfriend "settlers of catan" and they are just not a fun way to spend time imho. i am only down if it is a game of uno.

Althought elements of this expansion were available separately from 2004 to 2007, this pack did not release in English until 2008. It combines elements of fishing, events, expanded trading, barbarian attacks, camel trains, and much more to make a more well-rounded playing experience.

Recommend me a bar that has good low-key dance nights (as opposed to a club) and where you could conceivably start dancing earlier than midnight with a decent crowd there.

I (sorta) regret to inform you that my bar HiFi will be closing at the end of this calendar month, ending my 23 year tenure at 169 Avenue A. All parties booked before the end of the month will happen as planned. The story? Quite simply, the renovations we undertook a few years ago to reinvigorate the business were not successful in putting us back on a good financial footing.The generation of people who inhabit this neighborhood on weekends remain mostly indifferent to the place. HiFi seems to occupy a place square in the middle between “dive bar” and “mixologist paradise” — and while I hoped that would help us have a broad appeal to the newbies, it turns out that it translated as utilitarian (aka boring) to their tastes.

Can someone familiar with the current state of NYC bardom explain to me what he's talking about? What kind of bar do the people who live in the Brownies/HiFi neighborhood (or "inhabit it on weekends" -- are those different people?) now want? What does it mean for a bar to be "utilitarian" and why is that bad?

I think he means they either want $13 cocktails or to be drinking with grandpas.

I went to hi fi once in the past two years or so and despite the renovations(?) it still had the vibe of an old neighborhood place (which it was) and not really the kind of joint where 20 somethings would hang out given the multitude of options on Ave A, where there are more bars per block than almost anywhere else in manhattan.

It did have a really cool, intimate space for music in the back.

If you don't mind going to the Upper East Side, Ethyl's Alcohol is the bomb. Excellent retro-oriented dj's plus go go dancers. Actually has quite an old East Village vibe.

They were trying to portray the original location on MacDougal St. Now it's on Christopher St.

for awhile, the Kettle of Fish was the old (second) Folk City.

I was looking to see if Subway Soul Club is still around, but they host it in Gowanus now.
