This morning I mixed some of the mother's milk with a 50/50 pg/vg liquid I have that is berry flavored to go w/ the strawberry in MM and I think it thinned it out a little and made it more suited to whatever strengths my coil is? Is that possible?

yeah makes a lot of sense. i tried high VG fluids on my early set-ups and didn't get much from them - hints of flavour but felt v weak, and yeah, it's because the coil isn't strong enough to cut through the high vg. adding PG will help a bit but you're losing a bit of the quality by doing that.

im gonna guess you're on 1.8ohm coils, which is what i use 80% of the time, during the day etc. with that in mind, i'd recommend the pink spot fluids. they're made in vegas so should be cheaper and easier to find over there, rather than here in the UK. some great flavours in their range. gummi bear, fire & ice (cinnamon & menthol), watermelon wave, raspberry lemonade. really strong flavours, more intense than anything else i've tried. they're the ones i offer to smokers to plant the seed of 'something better is out there'

i sound a bit salesy there but man, i properly love those flavours. such a step up from all the basic blueberry, menthol, tobacco etc ones from yr avg shop.

The vegetable glycol thing partially answers one of my questions!

My serious questions for vape aficionados:
1. Are all the vape fluids mostly glycol? Does anyone debate the efficacy/health concerns of different types of glycol? Propylene glycol is one I'm familiar with (you can use that stuff for... anything!) but I know people complain about it when it's a food/consumable additive although I know it's not really known to be bad for you. It kind of entertains me to think people are pulling drags off of little handheld fog machines
2. Is vaping fluid pretty much the whole deal? Looseleaf tobacco vaporizers exist but I am unsure if that's in the same cultural segment, a different group entirely, or if people ignore those because they're really for w33d.

Upright Mammal (mh), Thursday, 18 June 2015 14:00 (eight years ago) link

iirc club smoke machines actually have warnings saying not to be around them all the time, although musicians who use them heavily in their acts obviously ignore this. I think it's mostly caution due to unknowns.

Are there e-cig flavors that replicate pipe smoke aroma?

Ecig fluid is made up of four things: vegetable glycerol, propylene glycol, nicotine and flavouring. the only health concern i've come across so far is that a small % of people can find the PG irritating to their throat, it's not that common though. i didn't know there were many complaints about it as a foodstuff, what are these? little handheld fog machines is a perfect way of putting it haha, though the ingredients used in ecig fluid is a lot better quality and cleaner than smoke machine stuff

yeah the ones we're talking about here, and 99.9% ones in the world are based around juice. i've heard about people modifying them to put weed in them, but that's mostly THC fluid, not aware of any that actively burn up a chunk of weed. in any case, the result is different, that'd be actual 'smoke' coming from burnt matter, whereas ecig stuff is the vapour from fluid. real smoke is more damaging to the lungs.

xp: There's a panoply of different tobacco flavours for these things. there's probably something that attempts to simulate pipe tobacco -- i've seen a couple different fake-cigar, a zillion different fake-cigarettes... pipe/loose-leaf is probably less "off" than the fake cig flavours, because it's a bit sweeter? i have found any tobacco-inspired flavour has a weird sweetness to it.

yeah loads, based around tobacco and all that. they're not for me though, never have been. the ones i tried were awful, you'll never be able to accurately recreate a pipe of cigarette because it's vapour, not actual smoke from burning, a fundamental difference in sensation. there are a bunch of high-end tobacco flavoured e-juice that people rate highly but i've never tried them - RY4 and swagger by pink spot are names i've heard a lot. i'm not sure about a specific 'pipe' flavour but i bet there is.

NI, Thursday, 18 June 2015 15:21 (eight years ago) link

I don't think there are any actual health risks linked to propylene glycol, but "natural health" types are very into referring to it as "that antifreeze liquid" and complaining about its use in flavored coffee and anywhere else it appears. If you look into recent articles about Fireball Cinnamon Whisky being denied entry into some country or another it's linked to glycol being used as an additive.

Upright Mammal (mh), Thursday, 18 June 2015 15:21 (eight years ago) link

that's interesting http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/news/fireball-cinnamon-whiskey-pulled-from-shelves-over-antifreeze-ingredient-propylene-glycol-9825134.html but this is the key line: "“most people consume propylene glycol every day in soft drinks, sweeteners, some foods and alcoholic beverages”."

if you're the kind of person who gets uptight about sweetener and paracetamol and the govt planting thoughts in your head using radio waves, then yeah, avoid it. for normal people, don't fret. i'm pretty sensitive to caffeine and drugs in general, but other than feeling queasy when i was smoking fluid with high nicotine, i've never noticed anything about using this stuff. one thing to point out is that in the first few weeks of using this you might get a few mouth ulcers and colds. this is due to your body getting rid of all the chemicals from cigarettes, it doesn't happen to everyone and isn't so bad, but as far as dangers to health go, that's all i've had. though there'll be a tiny % of people out there who are allergic to certain flavourings, or the PG, VG or nicotine, same as with anything.

NI, Thursday, 18 June 2015 15:37 (eight years ago) link

Yeah the EWG, sunscreen is poison, yoga mat chemicals in Subway bread contingent are very worried about PG.

(full confession - I have succumbed to these concerns for various reasons in the past but I try to be a little more skeptical/science minded these days.)

i think the suggestion is that it's not been tested as a vaporized inhalant by the FDA but i'm not totally sure
i know ecig companies are blocking tests and FDA approval as no news is good news

ok let's replace that line above with "mouth ulcers are a common result of stopping smoking"

NI, Thursday, 18 June 2015 17:30 (eight years ago) link

I could say it's due to your mouth bacteria regaining their potency, as they were being killed off by smoke, and your gums must get used to them again. This has no evidence, but it has as much evidence as "your body getting rid of the chemicals" if you link it with that study.

yeah this is my struggle. hard to find any liquid that isn't sweet, other than from my croatian plug

tpp, Thursday, 18 June 2015 18:15 (eight years ago) link

i actually picked up a couple of flavours that mask the sweetness p decently. one is "earl grey" and one is "good morning" - coffee/tobacco combo. the earl grey is almost too bitter, but it makes a great fallback when everything kinda jsut starts tasting like bad cotton candy

I'm extremely frustrated with the kangertech coils!

So last Friday I bought two boxes of coils and went to put on in on Saturday but it tasted disgusting and wouldn't really work and I couldn't figure out why. I noticed that they were 1.8 while I'd previously been using 2.2 but didn't think much of it. The place I got them from was closed so I went somewhere else and the guy there said it sounded like I was sold counterfeit coils and he sold me a new box of 2.5s.

While doing some reading I learned that the 1.8s probably weren't fake but that a 1.8 with a 3.7v battery can cause a burnt taste. So, I put a 2.5 in on Saturday and it worked great until last night which means I basically got 2.5 days out of it and I don't even use it that much! Does that sound right to you? I then tried to take the whole thing apart and wash and dry burn a coil but didn't do it right and then got frustrated so I just popped a new one in and it's ok. Anyway I guess my questions are as follows:

1) Could a 1.8 ohm coil on a 3.7 v battery taste awful? Are 2.5s better?

2) Why the heck am I going through coils so quickly????

btw I got some space jam pluto and it's amazing. my favorite yet. My plan is to use up all the juices I have now and then try that pink spot place even if it sounds porny and creeps me out a little.

had no idea this kind of controversy surrounded this habit (in which I don't partake). I work in downtown SF, fucking everybody vapes. it is impossible to tell who is a douche in downtown SF now; I think maybe everyone is? dunno.

has anyone seen a dual-vaper yet? like you are trying to compare two liquids and you have two vapes or idk

has to be an equivalent to dual headset

sort of fascinated how "vape shop" seems to have become the default american strip mall store. like some weird convergence of the suburban storefront real estate market and lifestyle trends seem to have made them more common than like dry cleaners or liquor stores.
