yes because the 70s were so much more lyrical and romantic.
I've got a bike. You can ride it if you like.
It's got a basket, a bell that rings and
Things to make it look good.
I'd give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it.
You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I'll give you anything, ev'rything if you want things.
I've got a cloak. It's a bit of a joke.

Someone should make one using the lyrics of "Happy Birthday to you!" or "The Star-Spangled Banner" as the touchstone of past lyrical greatness.

SatireHeadlines.com is an ingenious and creative way to share photos at a time when social media trends are getting stale. Facebook becomes old and annoying quickly when newsfeeds deliver yet another picture of a cat playing with his toy. Share that picture with a quick-witted headline—Frisky the Feline Comes Clean About Catnip Addiction After Years of Sniffing Toy Mice: “I Inhaled”—and suddenly it’s a humorous post that will likely elicit some laughter, and hopefully encourage social media users to be inventive and have some fun while sharing their own photos.

Message itself is hard to disagree with. Who doesn't hate rich assholes? But there's something old-fashioned-propaganda-ish about the comic that I find kind of revolting. It's like they just updated some anti-semitic cartoon from the 20s and made the main character less Jewy.

I kinda liked the cartoon... the style is done in a slightly depressing depression-era style though, admittedly, but it's pretty clear.

it's a simple message, can't really complain about it; so painfully self-evident but we still routinely have conservative politicians using the bootstraps shit to get elected so....

Content by Toby

The Pencilsword: Walk this way
Some of us walk fast, some of us walk slow - what would happen if we all walked together, asks Toby Morris.

For Richard, for Paula
This time last week Toby Morris was nervous. He was putting the finishing touches on a comic he was working on, and wondering if he’d screwed it up.

The Pencilsword: On a plate
A short story about privilege. By Toby Morris.

The Pencilsword: Inequality Tower
How do we fix New Zealand's inequality, Toby Morris asks. Maybe by acknowledging it.

The Pencilsword: Flagpole blues
Toby Morris wades into the debate over New Zealand's flag.

The Pencilsword: Be here now
Toby Morris takes a moment to look up from his phone and check out the world around him.

The Pencilsword: Take a deep breath and dive in
Weightless, timeless, debtless. Maybe going for a swim is what we all need in 2015, says Toby Morris.

The Pencilsword: Revenge of the beach bod
Toby Morris has a confession to make.

The Pencilsword: Like, like, like, what?
Let's be honest - getting likes and retweets is an ego boost. But how does this affect the decisions we make?

Past, present, what-the-future?
Statistics that show us where we've come from and where we're at prompt some big questions about where we're headed next.

The Pencilsword: Lights, camera, action
Do it yourself. You don't need a guy in a shirt and tie to give you the ok, and you've probably already got the gear.

The Pencilsword: The most valuable vote in New Zealand
No matter who you are, or where you're from, all party votes are equal in this election.

Picturing the impacts of poverty
Addressing child poverty takes more than putting shoes on feet and food on tables.

Preaching to the converted
Social media makes it easy to confuse our friends' views with those of the rest of the world. Easy, and kind of dangerous.
