that would be so cool!! i like this idea a lot! as long as mailing addresses/personal info always remained private, i think it'd work out pretty well!!
i love wearing my friends' castoff clothes. i get a lot of decent stuff this way!

Florianne Fracke (La Lechera), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 17:48 (eight years ago) link

I get almost no castoffs because I am always bigger than my friends! I did steal a few of my husband's pyjama pants once I discovered MEN'S PYJAMAS HAVE POCKETS. anyway this mystery blue dress is way more exciting than pockets!

I know this is the dress thread, but while I'm here: I am wearing a skirt with a side zipper but also zippered pockets, and I unzipped my skirt in the office while trying to unzip the pocket to put my phone in. Sheesh. I played trivia and drank beers last night so I blame the hangover

i have done that before

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 18:23 (eight years ago) link

LOL that's hilarious about the zipper.

Okay, FFM. I've got to wash this fine frock first, but next week I'll pop it in the post. Exciting!

SO Exciting! Thank you!

clothes swap is a great idea

esp bc i have free access to two seamstresses

just1n3, Wednesday, 10 June 2015 21:11 (eight years ago) link

i have a bunch of eshakti dresses that have basically never been worn, but they're custom-fit, so if you have 47" hips, 34" waist & 39" bust it's your lucky day (i have to dig them out of a pile of vacuum-sealed bags, so i'll take photos on the weekend)

just1n3, Wednesday, 10 June 2015 21:14 (eight years ago) link

wait it's 47/35/40 and they're all knee length

just1n3, Wednesday, 10 June 2015 21:16 (eight years ago) link

I wish I had free access to seamstresses! I paid someone to tailor one (two maybe?) of my eShakti dresses and they did a lousy job: big, gross seam along the waist that makes the dress bubble out. Blah.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 11 June 2015 14:58 (eight years ago) link

it's one of the best perks of my job tbh. i found this adorable dress with a sort of skater skirt but it didn't sit right on my hips, so instead of hemming it, my coworker lifted the whole top part of the skirt up into the waist seam - which would probably cost idk $50 at a tailor?? i get all my jeans taken in along the inseam as well as hemmed (i have big hips which means most jeans have really big thighs).

i have a lot of decent basics in new/newish condition from my work i'd be happy to swap/give away too.

what about a private facebook group? easy to post pics. non-fb ppl could create dummy accounts maybe?

just1n3, Thursday, 11 June 2015 17:26 (eight years ago) link

or i could create one dummy account, give the pw to non-fb ppl to use, just sign your name to your posts

just1n3, Thursday, 11 June 2015 17:27 (eight years ago) link

sounds good to me--i have some things i was considering posting to fb to give away, after setting up a filter. a private group would be better! i really miss clothes swapping. the in-person ones were so fun to host. online there'd be more of us, a better size range.

one dummy account for non-fb ppl seems a good idea.

JuliaA, Thursday, 11 June 2015 18:00 (eight years ago) link

I would love this! I don't have very exciting clothes but I would enthusiastically dig around my wardrobe just in case.

ljubljana, Thursday, 11 June 2015 18:02 (eight years ago) link

i guess we could use the ILS fb group we already have? i think that's set to members only.

just1n3, Thursday, 11 June 2015 18:33 (eight years ago) link

i just added some ppl that weren't already on there

just1n3, Thursday, 11 June 2015 18:38 (eight years ago) link

ok i created a dummy gmail for a fb account but you now need a ph # to verify your identity, and you can only use one ph # per fb account, so i can't set it up.

if anyone wants to do it and doesn't already have fb, i can give you the details for the dummy gmail account.

just1n3, Thursday, 11 June 2015 18:50 (eight years ago) link

oh stupid fb! I guess mine is linked to my FB account so I can't help out there :( this is exciting though!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 11 June 2015 19:50 (eight years ago) link

hahaha I just scrolled through that group and forgot how much I used to post there!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 11 June 2015 19:54 (eight years ago) link

I can try, I think my FB uses my UK phone number and I can make one with a Canadian number...

ljubljana, Thursday, 11 June 2015 20:11 (eight years ago) link

I have a bunch of stuff that fits neither my new body (bigger) and my new career (casual-er), and I would be happy to part with them! Otherwise they are going to the Goodwill.

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Thursday, 11 June 2015 20:36 (eight years ago) link

I have a bunch of stuff that is cute and too small for me as well! Would be happy to find it a home better than a box in the closet.

ok i emailed ljub the gmail info

i want to take dece photos so will wait til saturday to post i think, but yeah i have tons of stuff that is way too small for me, lots of stuff i bought that i thought ONE DAY I WILL FIT THIS, stuff that i ended up not having the confidence to wear.

i also have some nice shoes! one pair was only worn once - they're tan leather round toe wedge heel oxfords or brogues or whatever. size 8 i think.

just1n3, Thursday, 11 June 2015 21:21 (eight years ago) link

would anyone have a problem doing $0.01 paypal transactions for stuff? it's just printing shipping labels thru PP is way easier than USPS website.

just1n3, Thursday, 11 June 2015 21:22 (eight years ago) link

good idea!

USPS site is such a piece of shit

just1n3, Thursday, 11 June 2015 21:28 (eight years ago) link

Hey yeah this is cool! I have limited closet space and am more into the peaceful agrarian ST:TNG alien look these days (aka middle aged feminist poetry professor). I don't know what all would fit youse but I'll throw it on there anyway. I don't have Facebook so I'd appreciate the dummy log in.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Thursday, 11 June 2015 23:29 (eight years ago) link

j, gmail says the email and password you sent me don't match! Can you try your end? Maybe I am doing something dumb.

ljubljana, Friday, 12 June 2015 00:06 (eight years ago) link

... if you do get in, there should be an email from fb asking you to verify the email address. The fb account is set up (half set-up) with the same password.

ljubljana, Friday, 12 June 2015 00:21 (eight years ago) link

ugh i don't know wtf i did but i messed up either the username or the pw (and it took for fucking ever to set up that stupid account) - i didn't write it down bc i thought i'd easily remember it! i must have changed one or the other right before i created it??? my short term memory is so fucked due to lack of sleep lately.

i can't even get in at all bc i didn't use any back up stuff for that account.

just1n3, Friday, 12 June 2015 00:33 (eight years ago) link

sorted, I tried the pw with one character different and it worked! I confirmed the FB account I'd up before realizing you had already done that part so Jane D did not get used. Ayele Exor is alive and well.

ljubljana, Friday, 12 June 2015 00:46 (eight years ago) link

Lol Ayele Exor

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Friday, 12 June 2015 00:47 (eight years ago) link

That's a fantastic name!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 12 June 2015 00:52 (eight years ago) link

I can't seem to add her to the group, but I think you can J?

ljubljana, Friday, 12 June 2015 02:13 (eight years ago) link

you need to friend request her first - you can only add friends

just1n3, Friday, 12 June 2015 03:06 (eight years ago) link

She's in!

ljubljana, Friday, 12 June 2015 03:28 (eight years ago) link

i've totally got a case of oh-noes about this now: i don't want you all seeing how truly boring and style-less my clothes are!!!!!

just1n3, Friday, 12 June 2015 17:58 (eight years ago) link

LOL I only wear leather haute couture so I am definitely going to judge you

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 12 June 2015 19:14 (eight years ago) link

Yeah I am definitely NOT wearing weirdly shaped, awkward-length black pants and a tunic that would be right at home on a lunch lady rn, definitely not.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Friday, 12 June 2015 19:26 (eight years ago) link

I legitimately got stopped on the street the other day and asked if I work in fashion, hahahahaha. It really made me feel good about the awkward mid-calf army boots I threw on because of the rain with my regular black pencil skirt. But mostly my hair distracts and confuses people; my clothes are boring

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 12 June 2015 19:29 (eight years ago) link

why do you think i got tattoos?? i can basically wear frumpy whatever clothes and they get a little boost from the hipster element.

just1n3, Friday, 12 June 2015 19:41 (eight years ago) link

tattoos go really well with sleeveless housedresses imo ... and I just realized I forgot to post to this thread about my LA vacation which was partially spent looking for vintage housedresses. I figured that outside of Florida, LA would have a great selection. Was a bit disappointed tbh but I got a couple gems.

one day I will have tattoos too! But I bought 3 of the same black spandexy pencil skirt a few weeks ago because of my new job (& because I love them), so my wardrobe isn't going anywhere exciting anytime soon.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 12 June 2015 19:57 (eight years ago) link

my LA vacation which was partially spent looking for vintage housedresses
damn that sounds like so much fun
i don't have any tattoos and i think some people expect me to be more square than i am (maybe) but that's their problem

Florianne Fracke (La Lechera), Friday, 12 June 2015 20:36 (eight years ago) link

the most noticeable thing about LA vintage stores vs. SF Bay Area ones -- LA stores are so much bigger!

i bet the clothes were really outlandish too -- i love to try on ridiculous costumey things and LA seems perfect for that
i did some thrift shopping in maine and it was pretty great -- i got a shirt + some earrings in belfast and was wowed by the selection in bangor even though i didn't have any room in my luggage :(

Florianne Fracke (La Lechera), Friday, 12 June 2015 20:43 (eight years ago) link

i forgot there's a thread for this!

Florianne Fracke (La Lechera), Friday, 12 June 2015 20:43 (eight years ago) link

i was gonna ask, do we have a vintage & thrifting thread?

thanks!

FB password didn't work for me :(
