shockah

shame, I like both singles from the album a lot. i still find it a bit odd that initial excitement re comeback alone can land 'rock steady' in the top ten but it doesn't extend to a follow-up hit which is just as good if not better.

blueski, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 17:12 (seventeen years ago) link

but then it's worked out just fine for Take That (whose second single off the album is also better than the first imo), tho All Saints were popular but hardly in the same league as TT - seems that nobody really cares for this relatively 'edgier' pop.

blueski, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 17:15 (seventeen years ago) link

it's faintly depressing to think that the pleasantly unimaginative stuff all saints are/were doing now is "edgier" than anything!

i realised last week that i really, really love 'rock steady' though.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 17:16 (seventeen years ago) link

golly, even I love 'pure shores'!

unfished business, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 17:19 (seventeen years ago) link

'chick fit' sounded relatively novel to me, maybe just the beat...i expect it's ripping off 'favela funk' or something tho

blueski, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 17:23 (seventeen years ago) link

kissy sell out' s rmx of chick fit *roxx*.

pisces, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:44 (seventeen years ago) link

The chorus of Chick Fit reminds me a lot of Pure Shores. Funny how a band whose major successes have come from ballads release two upbeat tracks for their "comeback". Oh, and a TERRIBLE video too.

Why is this the only all saints thread i could find? Mel Blatt and Shaznay Lewis both had this weird nasally bell-tone in their voice that I have never heard any other singer having.

This was like the anthem for me and my friends in 2008. One of the best remixes of the decade!

Just been remembering how amazingly sexy Mel Blatt is!

Both quite good tunes as well.

Being the deprived American that I am, I only ever heard Never Ever a total of two times during its chart run in the United States. It was a good track but I guess we had enough of girl groups after the Spice Girls came and went. Shame. I'm still upset that we totally missed the boat on UK Garage and the awesomeness that was Mis-Teeq. We did get Cleopatra, though.

That's not a "laugh track", it's an audience and you're in it. (MintIce), Sunday, 14 November 2010 18:37 (thirteen years ago) link

They came at ya, I take it.

New album Red Flag coming in April. Exciting!

boxedjoy, Wednesday, 27 January 2016 12:56 (eight years ago) link

listened to Pure Shores the other day, such a fantastic track, great atmosphere and perfect 90s/orbit vibe, best thing he's done apart from Ray of Light that I know of

doubt the reunion will be about anything like that though

niels, Wednesday, 27 January 2016 14:16 (eight years ago) link

did not realize Shaznay had written the hits though!

Oh yeah..

Mark G, Wednesday, 27 January 2016 14:57 (eight years ago) link

Looking forward to this. I'm hoping they can keep up their record of never releasing a bad single.

Can't believe it's already 10 years since the last album.

Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 27 January 2016 15:11 (eight years ago) link

i only have the 'all hits' and 'studio 1' albums.
just dropped 'all hits' on, and damn, i am enjoying it.
given i have that one, do i need 'saints and sinners' as i have never picked it up !

mark e, Thursday, 28 January 2016 19:11 (eight years ago) link

Saints & Sinners is worth picking up. It's not the masterpiece it should have been after Pure Shores and Black Coffee but it's enjoyable. Surrender is another William Orbit produced song that is really gorgeous and should have been the fourth single.

The news of the reunion has made me finally give the Appleton album a go. I'm surprised how good it is. Going to give Shaznay's album a listen now.

Kitchen Person, Monday, 1 February 2016 19:22 (eight years ago) link

a friend actually got me S&S as a present today, looking forward to hearing it.
and yeah, the appleton album was not that bad from what i remember.
will dig that out and try it again.

mark e, Monday, 1 February 2016 20:02 (eight years ago) link

Just finished the Shaznay album. It really isn't up to much apart from the two singles.

this is shaping up to be my most anticipated album of the year

boxedjoy, Saturday, 2 April 2016 15:17 (eight years ago) link

This album comfortably outstripped my expectations. The second half goes to some really unexpected places.

Jeff W, Sunday, 10 April 2016 22:00 (eight years ago) link

It's certainly not perfect but there are a few keepers here. Puppet on a String is my favourite of the songs that weren't available before the album release.

art baengels (monotony), Monday, 11 April 2016 00:03 (eight years ago) link

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH HOLY FUCK AND IT'S ON SPOTIFY!!!!

guys remember the time Shaznay had braces in the "Never Ever" video omg

sexy dander (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 11 April 2016 00:47 (eight years ago) link

I wasn't that impressed at first but after a few listens I'm really into it. The second half is really strong. Pieces is a gorgeous closer and one of the best thing they've ever done.

The reunion tour was getting a rapturous reception in Glasgow last night and deservedly so. They don't seem to hate each other any more - quite the opposite - which really helps.

This is another really good album from them, although I kind of wish they'd done the whole thing with William Orbit based on how great the songs with him are. I remember thinking the exact the same thing about Saints & Sinners. After All is everything I wanted from them collaborating again.

kitchen person, Saturday, 28 July 2018 03:29 (five years ago) link

Also, is it just me or is Don't Look Over Your Shoulder exactly the same song as Midnight by Jessie Ware?
