And don't give me that "...but they didn't sell any records!" nonsense. The Velvet Underground didn't sell shit either and they're in.

R.E.M.BeckPearl JamNirvanaNINSonic YouthBeastiesMetallicaRadioheadGreen Day (with one more 'serious' album)PumpkinsPhish
... are all in. I can't think of any other 90s bands that were as big, though, besides RHCP and bands like Soundgarden, Bush, Live, etc., which I can't imagine will make the cut.
As for bands that are 'big' today not on the above list--i.e., bands who are more in the '00s--
White StripesOutkastThe StrokesWilco
are in. Assuming the whole place doesn't totally change and let in bands besides Outkast that don't use guitars.

Have a good shot:Beck (a Rolling Stone darling)White Stripes/future Jack White projects (see above)Pearl Jam (may have fucked up their popularity too badly to get in)PixiesEminemRed Hot Chilli PeppersOutkast
Don't see it:Smashing Pumpkins (maybe after Yes gets inducted)Sonic YouthRadiohead
No chance in hell:PavementNine Inch NailsOasisuh... Hasil Adkins
I really don't like at least half these people but the trivial, analytical aspect forces me to weigh in

Didn't Corgan induct Pink Floyd? They're totally in. Yet another meaningless band for a meaninless institution. HUMBUG!

I also think Radiohead, the Pixies, Metallica, Dave Matthews band, Guns N Roses, Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, Beck and Sonic Youth have a good shot.
Run DMC, LL Cool J, and Public Enemy will either make it in, or they'll start a hip hop hall of fame.
I don't see Teenage Fanclub,m the White Stripes, the Strokes or Coldplay making it.

Even though I am not at all into hip-hop, I hope they will also be able to include hip-hop (and electronica), as hip-hop and electronica are both clearly part of the bigger and broader history of rock'n'roll.

Anyway, REM, Metallica, Madonna, Run DMC and Public Enemy are the sure-thing locks from the 1980s. 1990s, you've got Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Radiohead. After that it gets a little fuzzy.

Actually, I bet he'll get in as a "non-performer," which would be hilarious. "Yeah he was that guy who produced Joshua Tree, so we should put him in."
