That is like saying someone is "intent" on becoming a winning trial lawyer for doing what is normal in their line of work.
What were you referring to as the "obstacle" and what is it an obstacle to?
Wie is hardly similar to AK as an athlete or as a sex object.

nu-tracy austin?
― mookieproof, Friday, 11 April 2008 04:25 (sixteen years ago) link
I don't think she's nu-anychick. Supposedly her mentor is Ernie Els, they call her the Big Wiesey for her drives.

i think a difference wrt tennis is that you don't get knocked out of golf tournaments, right? per wikipedia, Arnold Palmer stated in 2003 that "she's probably going to influence the golfing scene as much as Tiger, or more. She's going to attract people that even Tiger didn't attract, young people, both boys and girls, and families."
i think she is pretty and i like golfy style.
She's already made $10 in endorsements so she doesn't really have to work.
i lol'd. i wonder how she feels about the nintendo wii.

unless you're a non-lpga member who shoots 88 -- then you might have to withdraw to avoid being banned for a year

anyone who wears knee length jeans can NOT be a style icon.
― stevienixed, Friday, 11 April 2008 17:49 (sixteen years ago) link
rong
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 11 April 2008 18:09 (sixteen years ago) link
Right now, she's a better ambassador for the game or whatever than she is a golfer, but that could change. She's still ridiculously young.
― Alex in SF, Friday, 11 April 2008 18:10 (sixteen years ago) link
dude, i'm so right on this. she can sort of deflect the rongness of it cause she has sticks for legs.
― stevienixed, Friday, 11 April 2008 18:12 (sixteen years ago) link
I have pulled in knee length jeans before
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 11 April 2008 18:13 (sixteen years ago) link
that does not a style icon make.
― tehresa, Friday, 11 April 2008 18:15 (sixteen years ago) link
I'm just saying that knee-jeans are not 100% wrong
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 11 April 2008 18:15 (sixteen years ago) link
depends who you pulled in them! lol

She is 6'1" those are probably normal length jeans.

Don't make fun of my style icons. I don't make fun of you for being douchebags.
Oh wait. . .
You can make fun of my style icons.

I'll make fun of you.

― brownie, Friday, 11 April 2008 21:24 (sixteen years ago) link
She actually makes closer to 20 million A YEAR in endorsements. She should be okay.
― Super Cub, Friday, 11 April 2008 21:32 (sixteen years ago) link
I've never seen an ad with her in it -- all her endorsements must be for gear or targeted at golf and/or rich-people mags.
― Rock Hardy, Friday, 11 April 2008 21:38 (sixteen years ago) link
If she'd ever done an Arby's commercial or an ad for Ban Roll-On in Newsweek I'm sure I would have noticed.
― Rock Hardy, Friday, 11 April 2008 21:40 (sixteen years ago) link
I assume that 90% of successful professional golfers, because they're so wildly rich, vote Republican. If Wie falls into that category, hopefully she's permanently fallen out. (If you're interested in details, it will take you about three seconds to search.)

Sure. This one thing directed at her, no.

Clinton, Obama and Biden all golfers IIRC. I’m sure two out of three aren’t sex creeps* though.

I don't know why you'd assume 90% of LPGA players are Republicans

(xpost) Because they're ultra-rich. Joe Posnanski recently wrote something similar about baseball posters, another historically conservative sport.
I should have just posted a link and left it at that. I find with stories like this, if you don't post in exactly the right way, your post becomes the issue, not the story.
― clemenza, Monday, 22 February 2021 22:49 (three years ago) link
"baseball players"--some of them post, too, I think.
― clemenza, Monday, 22 February 2021 22:50 (three years ago) link
to be clear my above post was an ill considered attempt at humor because I think golf is fucking stupid

90% of LPGA players
That's a valid point--what I said applies more to the PGA.
