Tonight You Are The Special One: Expanded Edition

Fields of Fat Henry (Tom D.), Monday, 7 September 2015 15:40 (eight years ago) link

brilliant news !
will be nice to have clean versions of the b-sides.
larky for example is bloody fantastic.

mark e, Monday, 7 September 2015 16:21 (eight years ago) link

ahh .. I see the debut is getting the deluxe 2cd treatment as well !

mark e, Monday, 7 September 2015 16:25 (eight years ago) link

I was hoping they'd bring these out on vinyl too. I don't think Tonight You Are The Special One ever got a vinyl release and I'd love to get it.

Kitchen Person, Monday, 7 September 2015 18:20 (eight years ago) link

Check the Cherry Red site, I think it is coming out on vinyl... or has already.

Fields of Fat Henry (Tom D.), Monday, 7 September 2015 18:29 (eight years ago) link

YES! It's coming out on November 13th. I am absolutely chuffed. I managed to pick up the Your Majesty vinyl cheap a few years ago. This has made my day.

What a band!

Just listening to these albums as I'm reviewing them this week. Trying to get my head around what I can say about this perfect band.

Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 13 January 2016 19:46 (eight years ago) link

as soon as these were announced i ordered both expanded editions, and the special ltd edition box, i.e. CLOSED, to put them in.

according to a FB post, the first 47 orders of said package gets an extra treat.

given that i ordered the whole lot within minutes of the announcement i am hoping to be part of the 47.

mark e, Thursday, 14 January 2016 14:45 (eight years ago) link

I'm going with the vinyl. I couldn't justify getting the CDs as well right now. I'm sure I will regret that when I see what the extra treat is.

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 14 January 2016 16:03 (eight years ago) link

i know what the treat is .. well kind of : an extra 7"
don't know whats on it though.

mark e, Thursday, 14 January 2016 17:48 (eight years ago) link

Where are you ordering these?

djh, Thursday, 14 January 2016 23:05 (eight years ago) link

Haven't ordered my vinyl yet. Will probably order from here. Seems to be the only place you can get the Closed box set.

My reviews finally went up today. You can definitely tell they written by an Earl Brutus fanboy but I just couldn't hold back.

bravo to all re the excellent articles.

spent all saturday reading the sleevenotes and listening to the extra songs.

the david arnold remix is just glorious.

time to reprint some of the t-shirts ?

mark e, Thursday, 28 January 2016 13:52 (eight years ago) link

despite the fact it was written by someone who has history with the band, i loved reading that article.

i realise i am biased, but, the tracks on the extra cds are absolutely fantastic.

mark e, Thursday, 4 February 2016 21:32 (eight years ago) link

Are you biased?

djh, Thursday, 4 February 2016 22:58 (eight years ago) link

yes.

look at the studio pic earlier in this thread (unless i have missed some subtle point !)

Anybody else having issues playing the first CD of the Your Majesty reissue? Wondering if it's down to that faux spray-paint finish. I feel like I should complain, but then again, seems to be in the spirit of Earl Brutus (i.e. a prank, like the Durutti Column sandpaper sleeve.) Caveat emptor!

henry s, Sunday, 6 March 2016 21:47 (eight years ago) link

sorry henry, but mine played ok.
i'd contact 3loop directly http://www.3loopmusic.com/contact-us/
would like to think they will help you out.

playing the extra discs now as the digital lookup process worked for each extra disc.

bloody hell, this was a band for which even the throwaway b-sides were worthy.

I was just playing my vinyl of Tonight You Are The Special One earlier today. Pretty good band aren't they? It comes with a download code that I'm yet to use, wonder if it has all the bonus material as well?

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 19 May 2016 21:31 (seven years ago) link

i hope so, as the extra stuff is fantastic.
get it fixed up KP !

Buckfast At Tiffany's (Tom D.), Wednesday, 14 September 2022 22:26 (one year ago) link

‘Put Your Love In Me’, which is one of their best songs, is more like an album track than something you’d expect to hear on a greatest hits. You don’t hear that one on the radio but it’s one of their best singles.

It's one of the best singles by anyone ever, glad to see it mentioned. Great list throughout.

you can see me from westbury white horse, Wednesday, 14 September 2022 23:29 (one year ago) link

yeah, this was a cracking read.
as tom says, to be expected from jim.
