the last third of siamese twins is possibly the lyrical highpoint of the 1980s

the dueling guitar lines in The Figurehead are one of my platonic ideals of what a guitar should be/sound like

that whole album sounds like nothing else on earth & is better than almost everything

the thing that gets me about Pornography is how clear the sound on that album is; compare to something like, say, Join Hands, which is also awesome but is a nigh-impenetrable murkfest and you start seeing that what makes it really work is the clear delineation that surrounds the bleakness, from the crispness of the drums and guitars to how prominent and easily-understandable the text of Robert's lyrics are (if not the greater meaning; so much of this is imagery meant to evoke a mood rather than narrative and it's successful on a level I don't think he's ever reached since, at least not as consistently as he did on this album)

exactly - it is an utterly obverse psychedelic assault upon the emotions that a young child would be gripped by - these are almost fairytales

it also emphasizes and magnifies the murkiness of the title track; the muffled drums and smeariness of the guitar line are so out of step with the rest of the album, it's a jarring effect (especially when coupled with the vocal samples and how the guitar fades in and out of the forefront) but even there, Robert's voice is clear as a knife, embodying the murk in his words rather than tone quality

the clear synth line plays against all of the murk beautifully too

when i was young, in what we called the 20th century, i had a girlfriend with whom the cure were kind of our thing. when she broke up with me i sent her a letter and she did not reply. and then i sent her an index card on which i had written "oh remember. oh please don't change". incredibly she also did not reply to that.
