So my problem with Tha Carter title is that so many people dismiss Young Thug as trolling, especially with the way he dresses and occasionally flips hetero-normative conventions. But here he really is trolling, and that makes it easier to dismiss everything else he does as trolling, too

i mean this strikes me as the best thing about 'the carter vi,' weed out the lames
― een, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 19:57 (nine years ago) link
i just hope he doesn't get cold feet and pull an "i'm gay" like "carter vi (i came from nothing 6)"
― een, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 19:59 (nine years ago) link
I thought he already changed it to 'the barter'
― rob, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 20:46 (nine years ago) link
i wonder if this will be underwhelming
― deej loaf (D-40), Wednesday, 15 April 2015 20:49 (nine years ago) link
Of course it will. And then we'll all grow to love it later, when the noise is gone.
― longneck, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 20:52 (nine years ago) link
The Barter 6 is an even better title than The Carter 6 imo.

why is this 'of course' the outcome?
― deej loaf (D-40), Wednesday, 15 April 2015 20:59 (nine years ago) link
the whole thing is weird, like... they're putting out a "real" album with no single? so it's basically a mixtape but with a little PR push behind it? and i guess it will be on itunes.
that's what i'm assuming at least and i assume it will be as good as his other mixtapes, which is to say a half dozen incredible songs and some stuff that is more generic than it should be
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 15 April 2015 21:01 (nine years ago) link
Because everyone will want to distance themselves from all the hype/noise right now + we were already taken by surprise last year w The Tour so it won't happen again. @ deej
― longneck, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 21:04 (nine years ago) link
feel like the cater 6 wldve been a very good and interesting album title and not trolling but actually perfectly serendipitous and apt because lil wayne is thugs musical idol 100% that was the inspiration for the title in the first place but then real life intervened in such a crazy way that the cater 6 was actually knocking the carter 5 out of its release date complicating the whole thing on a crazy level and that folks is what we call art, class dismissed

afaict it's coming out on 300 Ent and is going to be on iTunes/Spotify but also officially on mixtape sites much like their Kevin Gates, Shy Glizzy, etc releases. it just seems weirder here because YT is far more famous with those guys and confusingly closely aligned with Cash Money in every way except releasing albums with them.
― some dude, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 22:02 (nine years ago) link
thug referred to it as "the mixtape" in one of those vine videos a day or two ago

...my thesis!
That new Barter 6 though.
― longneck, Thursday, 16 April 2015 15:43 (nine years ago) link
surprised by how mellow this album is but i guess it makes sense. the songs we already heard prior to the album dropping (check, halftime, numbers, just might be) are probably still my favorites after one listen and i think it partially has to do with how i don't like a lot of the features on here. birdman and boosie's respective verses aren't so hot, and especially with the former when considering how effective he was on flava. digging how duke and thugger go back and forth on dome. otherwise, i think i prefer with that and od to the tracks with features at the moment. gonna have to give it another spin.
― misterjoshua, Thursday, 16 April 2015 15:46 (nine years ago) link
The Barter 6 is one of the worst album titles i've ever seen. an intriguing idea gone far south =/
― soyrev, Thursday, 16 April 2015 15:55 (nine years ago) link
ok nevermind young dolph and yak gotti are alright. they definitely don't stunt the vibe as much as boosie does with his verse
― misterjoshua, Thursday, 16 April 2015 15:57 (nine years ago) link
Nah Barter 6 is great. Even if there wasn't the explanation of C --> B because of blood, it still is hilarious and perfectly aligned with everything that makes Young Thug great.
― misterjoshua, Thursday, 16 April 2015 15:59 (nine years ago) link
i like boosie's verse.
my only problem with B6 is that "beat it" is not on it.

it feels a bit aimless, less electric than 1017 thug
first track is nice tho
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 16 April 2015 16:15 (nine years ago) link
Yeah was a bit sad Beat It wasn't on the album. Also, Jacquees stated on twitter that that's not him and it's Jeremih on the track. Also my previous comment about features seems dumb now that I forgot that With That has a feature too.

i'm so confused, where is Barter 6? only on iTunes in like New Zealand and people are downloading copies leaked from that?
― some dude, Thursday, 16 April 2015 16:34 (nine years ago) link
classic new zealand early launch very nice

on spotify btw

vibe of this is so subdued and i don't know how down i am with that. love "just might be" of course, really into "check" and "dream"

I was missing the Triumphant Thugger so I put on Fuck With It and Who's On Top for a few times
― 龜, Friday, 17 April 2015 02:18 (nine years ago) link
yeah it's not a question of zaniness or something but he doesn't really push himself vocally on this. im missing, like, a "condo music" or something.
― J0rdan S., Friday, 17 April 2015 02:56 (nine years ago) link
the hooks on here also don't seem nearly as memorable as those on previous mixtapes? and i get he's going for a different vibe here but i just listened to givenchy again and, like, every single line is insanely melodic and that sort of vocal virtuosity works on multiple levels. that just doesn't happen as much on barter 6 from what i can tell. there was a clear progression from i came from nothing to 1017 thug to the various singles that came before tha tour pt 1 but i'm not seeing much of a step forward here :|

"beat it" with jeremih should be the huge hit.
― ANU (sisilafami), Friday, 17 April 2015 09:01 (nine years ago) link
I think it makes sense he's going for the same vibe as rich gang since his most popular songs are 'lifestyle' and 'all about the money'.
― ANU (sisilafami), Friday, 17 April 2015 09:02 (nine years ago) link
this is great, especially the second half although I think my favorite moment rn might be Birdman's very obviously Thugger-penned verse on "Knocked Off".
also btw, who is "wheezy 5th"
