I don't think anyone will make 270 threes at 45% for a long time, other than Steph Curry.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 11 April 2015 19:02 (nine years ago) link

but yes someone could be healthier than curry and get more total three pointers made but I don't care about that record as much. Percentage matters!

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 11 April 2015 19:05 (nine years ago) link

what Klay is doing is totally rad and puts him in company of some of the all-time greats, but Curry is just beyond all historical norms in an unusual way for a sport as old as basketball.

how about that Jason Richardson season btw

J rich was awesome. Top 5 warrior

#wegonnabechampionship (Spottie), Saturday, 11 April 2015 19:51 (nine years ago) link

I think he's one of the most underrated players of the past 15 years or so. Underrated dunk contest champion too.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 11 April 2015 20:07 (nine years ago) link

Kinda wild that Korver's best season there was ten years ago.

polyphonic, Saturday, 11 April 2015 20:22 (nine years ago) link

this is still his best season tho, 49% and all. Sucks he couldn't hold on to 50+.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 11 April 2015 20:30 (nine years ago) link

if you sort by percentage there the only guy close is Glen Rice with that BS short 3pt line.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 11 April 2015 20:31 (nine years ago) link

I genuinely do not remember George McCloud.

polyphonic, Saturday, 11 April 2015 20:39 (nine years ago) link

i remember him but the 1989 nba draft came at the height of my bball fandom as a kid so i remember those prospects way more than i should. was genuinely convinced sherman douglas was going to be a future all star.

balls, Saturday, 11 April 2015 20:44 (nine years ago) link

I'm sure I saw him play a lot. Not ringing a bell though.

polyphonic, Saturday, 11 April 2015 20:46 (nine years ago) link

I watched a Twolves-Nuggets game and a guy fell on McCloud, and the announcer said "hey, you, get off of McCloud!" Main George McCloud memory for me.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 11 April 2015 21:03 (nine years ago) link

the crazy thing about curry is how difficult the threes he take are, hes out there playing a different game than everyone else

lag∞n, Saturday, 11 April 2015 21:18 (nine years ago) link

yeah, korver and allen would take difficult 3s off screens but Curry is shooting like 40% on stepbacks

I KNOW YOUR TRUE IDENTITY, LAGOON.

[Former Warriors GM Larry] Riley, however, didn't need a workout since he was already high on Curry after seeing him play against Purdue early in his junior season. Riley liked him even more during a predraft camp interview, ranked him the second-best player behind Griffin and likened him to two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash.

His dad made him dramatically change his shooting form in high school which partly accounts for his poor recruiting ranking in HS. Also means his dad is a genius of some sort.

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 21:52 (eight years ago) link

Yes

#wegonnabechampionship (Spottie), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 22:17 (eight years ago) link

feel like everyone prob remakes their shot in high school / its not that big of a deal, like in that video of him at 14 hes just not strong enough to have an adult high release, his release is still on the low side tbh which is pretty amazing considering how well he gets it off in tight spaces

lag∞n, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 23:10 (eight years ago) link

like he was still scoring 50 pts in games i dont think the shot doctoring held him back much

where are you getting these post shot doc HS splits

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 23:34 (eight years ago) link

i just have an encyclopedic knowledge of of possibly made up or maybe read one time steph facts, anyway i contend that my assertion is true that theres really no such thing as "rebuilding yr shot" in high school since p much everyones shot is still very much in the process of being built in the first place at that point yr body is still growing changing etc

lag∞n, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 23:59 (eight years ago) link

like what % of serious ballers enter high school at 13 with essentially the same shot as they exit at 18

Sufjan Grafton, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 00:22 (eight years ago) link

btw feel like ive noticed an unusual motion in both steph and even more so klays shot, seems like they both start with the ball a little lower and more in front of them than is typical then they generate a lot of force pushing their whole arm up from the shoulder making their forearm look like a piston going straight up, where a normal shot wld start a little higher and have more force provided by straightening out the elbow, wonder if that comes from a warriors coach or if they rubbed off on each other or its just a coincidence or im just imagining it or what

Makes sense. Except for his supernatural athletic prowess, Steph is too normal a human being to make a thrilling documentary subject.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Friday, 4 August 2023 17:37 (eight months ago) link

That's certainly part of it but it was also poorly edited, almost every interviewee spoke lethargically, and it really could've used an NFLFilms-style hypeman narrator.
