let me make up for that incredibly dumbassed mistake with a predictable yet amusing thing about allen iverson i just read, as told by matt barnes:

well initially it was a denunciation of defensive role players

that too, tho as i was clear abt u can have defensive role players they just need to be either a. better than thabo at O or b. big man rim protectors

If your argument is that there's some really key offensive difference between Andre Iguodala 2015 and Thabo 2015 idk man.

per 36 stats are deceiving imo, if thabo was decent on offense he would prob shoot more than 4 times per game

I always heard that Iverson just sat at the stage and tipped ones dourly, maybe he just had a bad day.

i'd suggest that ai write a book on strip club etiquette but i don't think it would have a very wide audience

he's very much not decent on offense and neither is Iguodala and yet they're rotation players for two elite teams in this modern, changed NBA that doesn't like defensive role players

igoudala's shot really comes and goes but he can still make things happen on the fastbreak and is a nifty passer, they're not really comparable offensive players

all good teams have bad players on them it doesnt mean those players are making the teams better it just means those are the players the teams have

he plays for an offensive juggernaut that creates transition opportunities nonstop and averages 1 more assist per 36 and the same number of points xp

your argument was that it's never "fine" to have a guy who doesn't offer anything on offense and it seems very much "fine" for these two teams that are the top seeds in their conferences.

So now you're making it all about Thabo being specifically, legendarily bad in some way which doesn't really wash.

being a bad offensive player on the wing/perimeter is a much harder sell than being a bad offensive player down low imo

matt obviously like if a team had the best four starters in the league it wld be "fine" to have whoever playing with them, u r a master class in pedantic bad faith point missing

it wouldn't be fine, you'd notice it for sure if they had, for example, austin rivers in the lineup.

it seems obvious to me that thabo is a useful and competent regular season player who becomes a big sore thumb in the playoffs

but if you had 4 offensive studs? A guy like Thabo would fit in well. xp

eh, rivers hasn't made the clippers worse per se, bc the bench wasn't exactly a model of efficiency before his pops traded for him - not the best example

austin rivers is basically like the worst guard in the nba though

i am happy to concede that austin rivers is worse than thabo, like thabo is a minimum contact 11th man, rivers is a 3rd tier foreign league player

thabo got a 3 year deal

from a front office that isn't dumb

I think it's fine to have players who offer nothing on defense or nothing on offense if they're exceptional and Thabo is exceptional on defense.

paying thabo like ~5% of your salary cap isn't egregious

i'm not sure i would do it, if i was running a team, but it's not the worst thing in the world

i don't think he's underrated though

Thabo definitely not underrated, he's pretty widely respected as a role player. One person here underrating him tho.

this is a key pt, i think his presence on court is definitely a liability in the offs. dont want to decrease opp cost of doubling korver or milsap or teague

xp i heard that on the podcast and it sounded like bullshit at the time plus sometimes sedano is annoying (that whole cast is often a shitshow tho usually amin is on pt)
