his upper mouth doesn't move much when he talks, makes him a pretty a severe mumbler

#wegonnabechampionship (Spottie), Friday, 10 April 2015 17:55 (nine years ago) link

hes "bad" at "basketball" being a perimeter defensive specialist is just not enough, there is literally in which its fine to get nothing from one of yr players on offense

well i did include -perimeter- in there for a reason, also the league has changed since then

lag∞n, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:08 (nine years ago) link

lol whatever man

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:10 (nine years ago) link

The Warriors basically just orbit defensive specialists around 2 good offensive players and could have won 73 games if they'd wanted to.

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:13 (nine years ago) link

their defensive specialists can do competent offensive things

lag∞n, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:16 (nine years ago) link

thabo like cant do basketball things

lag∞n, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:16 (nine years ago) link

Iguodala is a pretty fucking wretched offensive player at this point

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:17 (nine years ago) link

yeah i don't think losing thabo dramatically alters the hawks odds, he'd barely been back and can't imagine he was a big part of whatever strategy budd is working on, but he was definitely a contributer and i don't think they're better off w/o him by any means. whether he's an asset or liability on the court dependent on the situation but that's pretty much what bench players in the playoffs are useful, bandages for specific contexts.

balls, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:18 (nine years ago) link

theres a difference between being like just inefficient and just not being able to make basic drives/passes and so forth

lag∞n, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:19 (nine years ago) link

thabo's per 36 is 10-8-2-2 with 1.4 turnovers, he's not a YMCA player man

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:20 (nine years ago) link

hes a ymca player

lag∞n, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:20 (nine years ago) link

I think you've seen him do some embarrassing stuff occasionally and are hating a lil' bit

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:20 (nine years ago) link

I think if you throw the ball to thabo and no one is there he can dunk it and stuff

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:21 (nine years ago) link

maybe if no one is there

lag∞n, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:21 (nine years ago) link

saying Iguodala was "inefficient" would sound better if there was actual production going with it

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:22 (nine years ago) link

a straight routine drive to the rim with like an at all contested finish is dicey for him tho

lag∞n, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:22 (nine years ago) link

Iguodala per 36: 10.7-4.5-3.9-1.6-0.4 w/ 1.6 TOs
YMCA Thabo Sefo: 10.3-8.2-2.8-2.0-0.8 w/ 1.4

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:24 (nine years ago) link

as a fixture on the ymca circuit i can tell you he is not a ymca player

Heez, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:24 (nine years ago) link

iggy had a minute when he was playing better but yeah he really fell off a cliff the last few years whats up w that, i guess he is kinda the prototypical reliant on athleticism type but he always seemed like a decently skilled player even if he never had one really good offensive skill

lag∞n, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:25 (nine years ago) link

iggy at least defenses still guard even if maybe they shdnt thabo u dont have to guard

lag∞n, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:25 (nine years ago) link

one time they filmed a real world dc at my ymca and the cast tried to play in a pick up game. they were definitely not ymca players

Heez, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:26 (nine years ago) link

imo the reason thabo can't shoot anymore is that defense started guarding him a little (slow release)

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:27 (nine years ago) link

thabo shooting 41/32 while never being guarded btw not sure what that is in per 36min averages

lag∞n, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:27 (nine years ago) link

thabo had two years where he shot the three well

lag∞n, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:28 (nine years ago) link

I just totally disagree with the idea that there's no place for defensive role players. You really don't need 5 great scorers on the court, as the Warriors are proving. Yeah Bogut can pass a little, and a guy like Rodman had OREB and passing too, but it's ok and perhaps even a net positive to have guys who are entirely focused on defense. There hasn't been some sea change where guys like that aren't useful. They were useful back in the 70s and 80s when pace was high and they're useful now too.

right and the league adjusted imo. Started doing soft close outs.

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:32 (nine years ago) link

i feel like in todays game u need to be able todo some offense, like even if u are big #1 rim protecting center at least be able to catch and dunk on the roll

lag∞n, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:32 (nine years ago) link

I mean look at the Rockets with Pat Bev. There's not a lot on offense there, and they really miss him.

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:33 (nine years ago) link

i mean like fine i u want to use him situationally off the bench to cool down a primary scorer but they cldve got someone better for that role prob

lag∞n, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:33 (nine years ago) link

beverly can like dribble and stuff, thabos a stiff!

lag∞n, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:33 (nine years ago) link

well he's a point guard, relative to their positional skill set we're talking about a similar situation

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:34 (nine years ago) link

I mean Thabo's getting 10 pp36 somehow right? if he's doing that without dribbling I'm impressed!

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:35 (nine years ago) link

the hawks offense is god is how i break it down to an extent

lag∞n, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:35 (nine years ago) link

Well that's the situation where defensive role players thrive so...

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:36 (nine years ago) link

but if they got someone better then they wouldve been even better

lag∞n, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:37 (nine years ago) link

i mean they gave that dude 4m a year for three years!

lag∞n, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:38 (nine years ago) link

theres a million D and no three players available for way less than that

lag∞n, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:38 (nine years ago) link

Well now you're changing gears

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:46 (nine years ago) link

imo the thing with thabo is he's like the most replaceable player i can think of

call all destroyer, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:47 (nine years ago) link

thabo sefolosha is definitely replaceable. but it makes perfect sense that he won a title with that pistons team - which was a madcap collection of roleplayers and B+ dudes w/o a clear star (although i guess sheed was more of a star than even the best-known hawks player) - and also why he's on a team like the hawks now.

slothroprhymes, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:57 (nine years ago) link

uhh

call all destroyer, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:58 (nine years ago) link

you are thinking of someone else i think?

call all destroyer, Friday, 10 April 2015 18:58 (nine years ago) link

aw what the hell. *facepalm*

slothroprhymes, Friday, 10 April 2015 19:02 (nine years ago) link

i was thrown by the picture matt deployed which is in fact ben wallace and my mind went poof, woooowwww

slothroprhymes, Friday, 10 April 2015 19:04 (nine years ago) link

let me make up for that incredibly dumbassed mistake with a predictable yet amusing thing about allen iverson i just read, as told by matt barnes:

One early lesson came from Iverson, his teammate for half a season in Philadelphia. “Allen was the first guy that showed me how NBA players spend money in strip clubs,” Barnes says. “That guy went. HARD. He’d throw so much money, and this was when I was first in the league, that I used to take my foot and scoop the s— under my chair and either re-throw it or put some in my pocket. He’d throw $30,000, $40,000 every time we went. I’m like, ‘You realize what I can do with this money?’”

slothroprhymes, Friday, 10 April 2015 19:11 (nine years ago) link

Allen "Down Payment" Iverson they called him

Clay, Friday, 10 April 2015 19:14 (nine years ago) link
